i dont get how people ever let them selves get fat. Quit thinking about working out and just do it, like the nike logo. When u dont working for FOREVER ur going to be sore for the first week or 2 but after that its so easy. I will never understand why people are so lazy. I dont care who u are or what u do, u have time to workout in ur day. Even if its only 30 minutes
@Immaculate210 I don't understand how people can let themselves be completely retarded when it comes to spelling and grammar. I don't understand how people can be so lazy and not spell out you or you're instead of u and ur. I don't care who YOU are or what YOU do YOU have time to spell correctly in YOUR day. Even if it is just a post on YouTube.
Some rare people can work out like mad and still be massive fat asses. For example roy big country nelson is a top twenty ranked mixed martial artiest and probably does some thing like 5 hours of hard work outs a day. He managed to go the distance with the current ufc champion. But yeah the majority of people are just lazy mother fuckers.
I've seen many people doing a burpee by touching the ground with their body (legs, chest etc.). But doesn't this drop the tension in the muscles, cause you've never DO touch the ground with any part of the legs (quads) or chest in a normal pushup.
Why should I touch the floor with legs (quads) and/or chest? What's the benefit?
@Stjarnor I don't see the point in touching your legs to the floor. but as long as you aren't resting against the floor for even the slightest moment, you wont be releasing tension from the muscle. In fact that will work a wider range of motion than just going down till your arms form a 90deg angle and would give you a better stretch and bigger pump.
So basically, push back up the moment you feel the top of your chest touch the ground like a normal pushup. There's variations too.
@Stjarnor "Another tip to get the most out of your push-ups: Don't let your chest actually touch the floor when you come down.
Your chest should come within 2 to 3 inches of the floor. Put a textbook, a sneaker, a rolled-up sock underneath you, and when you touch it, it's time to go back up," says Ross, who was named ACE's 2008 personal trainer of the year."
.. try it yourself. You ARE loosing tension by "bumping" off the floor. You never let the bar bounce of the chest in a benchpress, right?
@thesoni Because they are demonstrating it. Watch the rest of the video before you comment next time. You can see people doing them at full speed, and with variations according to fitness level.
@Seksivince Back in boot camp, our senior told us before the initial PFT, "You're gonna do a hundred crunches, or else you're gonna do a hundred Burpees." We had some fatbodies who couldn't do it, and they got slayed.
burpees? wtf? why the hell would someone name a exersize such a hideous name, the person who gave it this name probably had herpes and burped alot and decided to name an exersize 'burpees".
@johnmkrs83 He was born in the 19th century, they had different names back then. I'm sure people from that period would find some of our names fucking weird to. Heck, I do. Still, it is a strange name.
this is the best excercise ever and it works! there brutal but man its better than those stupid ads on tv like the big ball things. man those ads piss me off. if you want to be fit, do these burpees every other day.
you don't even need to do the entire pushup phase in a burpee. adding the down and up movement increases total muscle work, and using knees or not is still beneficial. you also don't see anyone in the video showing them bringing their knees up to their chest in the jump portion, but that's not a problem either. burpees are awesome because the exercise advances with you as your fitness level advances. appreciate the video as a good guide and leave your ignorant bitterness out of it. =)
@malfeam IMO, the burpee you describe is not effective. I finally found a video where I thought it was the 'proper' way to do a burpee. Specifically, getting into the plank position and doing the entire pushup phase. Without that, I find that it's not as effective in strength training and not as challenging. I could do 50 burpees easily the way you described, but with the entire pushup phase, I can only do 20 - 25.
Fucking Hell! Guys are so fast to judge. They probably didn't even finish watching the video. Just saw the woman demonstrating the easier pushup and right away wanted to make stupid comments. Ugh.
Love the video! Great demonstration of good form and and variations. And especially enjoyed the "muscle-ups" at the end. Working on mine. Hope it's ok, but I posted this to my SmashFit Fan Page. We have over 3000 fans who will take a look :)
that's not sloppy, some people just don't have the upper body strength to do a full pushup. though she definitely should be working to develop the strength to do so...
and Im talking about the woman in the pink shirt BTW, the one in the beginning is obviously capable of a normal burpee seeing as how she does a muscle uplater in the video.
I understand she's a woman, but for Godsakes, get your fuckin knees off the deck. It partially defeats the purpose of the burpee and most of the Crossfit type women do the pushups normally anyway.
we did these in wrestling practice for like ever, but ours were slightly different. We didn't do the jump thing at the end and we were going for speed.
Bob from Biggest Loser was talking about this on his facebook today and although i'm an exercise buff, i had never heard of this exercise. Now that I've seen this video, i know I've done this exercise before, but I didn't know it was called a burpee. Thanks for the video example guys! LOL!
burpee is something u g2 train for, i am rly physically strong, but i didnt get passed 20 in a row, but that was a 1st time attempt, its like doing tricep extensions but never doing push ups and expecting to get 50+ push ups, u g2 train for them
songname and info - "I Hate Myself for Loving You", by Joan Jett and the BlackHearts, same same band that did "I Love Rock N Roll" recently covered by Britney.
burpee is one of hardest exercises in terms of getting out of breath. i can do only 30 in a row and am breathing like a horse. i dont do jump or pushup in my burpee though.
I agree... this looks intensive, but it will cause future problems. I think the best possible exercise is swimming. You work the majority of your muscles, without any joint damage, and as a bonus, you don't overheat / sweat! :D
You do overheat and sweat when you swim. Trust me, I swam at national level. You don't notice the sweat because you're surrounded by water and once you start to overheat it's almost unbearable. There is no way to dissipate it.
It depends on how you do them. If you can do them with smooth transitions and without bouncing when tucking the knees after the push up, and if you're careful to drop the hips and lead with the chest on the way up rather than the back, they are not as bad. When they're done in a fast, jerky manner it's a whole different story.
Walking, sittings, going up stairs, down stairs, getting in ur car, shifting on the couch, jogging, running, its all the same as this. The body is made the move like this on a regular basis. 30 of these a day won't do jack all to your joints.
It anything, this improves your joint structure. People who sit all day, on chairs, those are the people you hear about that have joint issues/back problems. Sitting in one position, putting all the weight on one specific part of your joint for long periods of time does long term damage. Moving, jumping, this stuff is what our body is built to do. A mistake can result in injury, or doing it wrong can hurt the joints.
