Ok I'm officially confused. I thought they only performed HJ one time on t.v. (David Frost show). Now I see what appears to be the same footage on other youtube uploads but its for the Smothers Brothers show. It even has the same shots / edits and the same audience members. What's goin' on?...
@todtubetod You're correct. The Beatles performed Hey Jude on The David Frost show. In the era of the late 60s, the Beatles' performance of Hey Jude (and other songs they wrote for this period) would be shown again and again on other TV variety shows of that time. It seems kind of strange, but there were no VCRs or DVRs (or YouTube) where someone could watch this performance again if they missed it the first time.
@oldtattoo the original recording wich is sort of "backing track" (see 4:02 Ringo's fill or the background vocals) . However George was playin' a Baritone Guitar generally used as pickin' guitar and sounds like a thinner Bass.
What Ringo says is "Hey back off a bit" or something to that effect. He was totally enjoying himself nor was he the type to say rude, hurtful things to fans who were only there to share in the magic of the moment. The environment was extremely positive and joyful. I watched it live with practically every other young person on the planet, and I know what the mood was of that time and generation – full of innocent hope for a world that would live in peace and love. How's it in the 21st century?
Hey Jude might be the best singing performance in Rock and Roll. Paul starts out crooning and he's howling like Little Richard by the end. It's as good as it gets.
@strokes8771 - you mean over 50 years :D
