  • What about grammatical structures?

  • Hi Ste my name is Aslam Ali and I am writing this post to ask you what is the best method to learn how to speak a foreign language. I currently can only speak English fluently but would like to learn another language. I know how to speak Punjabi aswell as my mother cannot speak english. However even though I have heard Punjabi all my life and can understand the dialect my mother speaks which is called potwari and can only speak a level 4/10 to 5/10 in fluency. How can i improve.

  • @PakFAN Just follow all the advice here at my channel.

  • I love LINGQ! :]

  • This looks awesome! I need to brush up on my Korean so this seems perfect. Can't wait to try it out :D

  • LingQ has been so amazing so far. :)

  • @Lovetteboy Glad you enjoy it.

  • Is there a chance for Arabic and/or Persian?

  • @ZekeComa I hope so within a few months.

  • "I've learnt 10 languages the LingQ way"

This statement is actually very misleading.

Steve Kaufmann learnt most of his languages long before Ling existed - mostly by being based overseas for many years in countries where the various languages are spoken.

(This is all detailed in his own book "The Way of the Linguist".)

LingQ is a commercial site run by Mr Kaufmann. It is not approved by the Canadian government experts, and Its true quality must be regarded as unknown.

  • BTW

I'm not saying that LingQ is bad, just that its exact merits have not been tested in an objective way.

  • @silent0watcher There is not objective way. Just try it and see if you like it. Free of charge.

  • @silent0watcher You must be quite unusual if you think that Canadian government approval means something when it come to language learner.

LingQ was developed based on my experience in learning languages as explained in my book. LingQ just takes advantage of modern technology. People can try it or ignore it. I just wanted to explain what it is.

The only languages that i learned in the countries where the language was spoken are French and Japanese. Even there I relied mostly on input.

  • @lingosteve I haven't understood how it works and when you sign up it's free but after? I hope you 'll answer thank you

  • @DifferentdimenSion1 You can access all the resources and start adding words and phrases to your database. When you reach 100 words in your database you have to decide whether to continue adding to your database, or delete words to remain under 100, or stop saving words and just use the audio and texts without saving words. Tutor services also require payment.

  • @DifferentdimenSion1 The learning resources are free. Some functions and services cost money. It is all clearly spelled out on the site.

  • @silent0watcher Every language-learner has a preferred study technique or activity, regardless of how immersed in the language they are or aren't. Apparently Kaufmann's was this vocabulary extraction and listening-reading-review combination now facilitated on his site -- not that his on-site aids really transform the underlying process, except by making the method more accessible. Actually, a friend of mine swears to a quite similar pathway to his own fluency. I lack the attention span, myself.

  • @silent0watcher LingQ was designed based on how I learn languages so that statement is actually quite true.Who has suggested anything about approval by the Canadian government ?

  • Will there be an android app ?

  • Excellent! I hope you can add Norwegian soon. There's an amazing Norwegian teacher on YouTube (Crienexzy), maybe you can ask her to record some lessons.

  • @MoonlightHorses Great advice. We hope to be able to add Norwegian and other languages within two months or so.

  • @lingosteve I would love to see Norwegian added soon, been loving using the system for French but have been hoping a Norwegian one comes along soon. Hopefully there will be enough content makers out there for it. I look forward to future updates.

  • Really good presentation, if I wouldn't be a user of LingQ already, after this advertisement I would defenitly start using it !!!

  • Do you need to translate it into other languages? I could do it for Italian

  • @adalberto1178 Yes we will be translating it into many languages. As much as possible I will do the recording since it does say "I am Steve"..but for Lithuanian, amongst others, I will have to ask someone else.

  • I am becoming more and more tempted with each video that I watch to sign up to LingQ!

    A very concise video :)

  • I really like this new promotional video! It's simple and concise.
