  • From 800AD to 1100AD the scientific center of the world was Baghdad . this came a great number of scientific discoveries about astronomy, mathematics, medicine, engineering. However something happened that led to the end of this age of science in the Islamic world. What happened was a scholar (Imam Hamid al-Ghazali) who put forth the idea that mathematics was the work of the devil. This plus other things led to the collapse of that scientific tradition, and it has not since recovered.

  • WOW! so he really did get influenced by the philosophers and took their ideas into his own rather than come up with it all from his own pure interpretation of Islam. Why would he then insult ALL the philosophers because he is RIGHT there with them!

  • @Piccolo7126 He studied SPECIFIC philosophies to prove they were not fool-proof

  • @dreadedqb I read some where that he majored in studying philosophy and knew all about it. Then he wrote against the philosophers and their "inconsistencies" which then influenced Averroes to write against that. But was Ghazali's reasons for going against the philosophers to protect Islam from being dispersed and destroyed or just because he really did feel philosophy served no purpose whatsoever? IT looks like philosophy is what helped Ghazali come up with his ideas and interpretations.

  • @Piccolo7126 This is a very long discussion, plus you would have to understand Islamic theology and how specific groups of ppl who claimed to be philosophically gifted were emerging and distorting Islam for political gains (Mu'tazilites). A great place to start would be by reading work by William Chiitick (Professor at NY)

  • @dreadedqb Thank you, I'll be sure to check it out.

  • AL-PRAISE IS FOR ALLAH AZZA WA JAL ALONE. WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL WONDERFUL, FOR THIS 64 YEAR OLD MUSLIM OUR DEAR BROTHER'S WORDS HAVE GIVEN ME MUCH JOY, HE IS STILL A BLESSING TO US MUSLIMS EVEN IN THESE DAYS OF SO MUCH, FOR-GETFULNESS. MUCH LOVE TO ALL OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS OUT THERE, PEACE.

  • No words can encompass the beauty of it, exceptional.

  • its indeed a nice and heart touching clip...

how can i get the mp3 format of the music that you've used for it...please reply me the name of the music and website, from where i can get the mp3 format....

  • magnifique...... Absolument magnifique!!!!!! He's understood it all.....

  • Accept those that are different than us or who believe differently than us. Keep love in your heart, fovgive those who wronged us, and bee true to yourself and follow God.

Like Ghandi said "every man is my brother" I am a Hindu a Jew A Musim a Christian. At the end of it all; you can see that we are all the same. Love each other! This is the real fight and this is the real war! ! Peace to all of my brothers and sisters......

  • It's amazing how different the view of Ghazali is in the west. They see him as the proponent of the defunct occasionalim philosophy. In his book, the Incoherence of the Philosophers, He desecrated the Greek scientists who gave so much to the knowledge of man. Yet he is a saint in Islam for his contribution of the philosophy of Occasionalism which contributes nothing but ignorance.

  • @CHAS1422 U think too highly of the Greeks. U have no proof that Al-Ghazali caused a decline in thought. Al-Ghazali's book only opposed the erroneous metaphysical conclusions, not everything. In fact, after Al-Ghazali, science reached its zenith in the East.

  • Al-Ghazali was considered a father of occassionalism. His discussions on the burning of cotton, or the movement of the hand are clear examples of his "God of the Gaps" assertions. This type of thinking leads to darkages mentality. The greatest period in mideastern science was the Abbassid period, and the Greek science was filtered and added to. I do not subscribe to all Greek philosophy, but great minds like Pathagoreas, Eratosthenes, Euclid, Archimedes, Anaxagoras etc are worthy of mention.

  • Part 01 of 02

First of all the theory of occasionalism is not a defunct but very much active part of modern day Philosophical studies around the world which deals with the cause & effect issues and secondly Greek Philosophers fallacies has been glaringly exposed by the great Imam Al Ghazali in his monumental Incoherence of Philosophers which changed the tide of Muslim Philosophical debates after that.

  • Part 02 of 02

And gave it a new inductive dimension to the philosophical and scientific issues as compared to the speculative & deductive reasoning of the Greeks. So its better for you to study properly before making any stupid and baseless remarks against the subtle points of The Great Imam Al Ghazali which he raised in his various influential works.

  • I have no need to study. Occasionalism has never withstood the scrutiny of testing or empirical evidence. I can see where it leads.

It would waste my time. The incoherence of theology is how it should read.

  • I know that to study and make discerning comments is not something which an imbecile like you is capable of. So better to refrain using your diabolical reasoning and comments on such complex issues of theology, logic and philosophy which sometime shave little to do with the limited approach of empiricism and so called scientific gauging of the above mentioned disciplines. Stupid like you need to be aware that metaphysical realities act in different realms.

  • And therefore the physical parameters of observation and empiricism does not require to establish those complex issues.

  • Oh I see, you don't need evidence to believe an assertion...LOL. Your claim of "complex issues" not requiring empiricism is nothing more than a vieled cop out. It's dark ages superstition.

  • @CHAS1422 the limitedness of physical parameters of observation in the face of complex issues in life is not a dark ages superstition..if u think im wrong go study goedel's incompleteness theorem for math, the uncertainty principle in physics and the np-completeness set of problems in algorithm theory

  • @amedhat86 I don't need abstract physics or math to create a machine whose nature and function are fully predictable. Your computer works on the predictability of material components. You don't need string theory to build a camera. The material knowledge to build function fully precludes superstition and supernatural. A car will function weather you pray to god or curse him. It will rain because of atmospheric conditions, not because you prayed. There is no supernatural cause/effect relation.

  • @CHAS1422 my argument does not imply in anyway a reference to arbitrarily created and controlled machines...it was in reference to our control over and the predictability of certain nuances of life and the limitedness of that control in relation to physics and math....and by the way,,,these are not abstract scientific issues devoid of a real impact on our lives ..the mathematical incompleteness and np completeness imply our fundamental inability to solve certain real world problems

  • @amedhat86 holistically due to the fact that the tools which we use and are created by us are incomplete by virtue of them being a created choice out of a possible known and unknown many...and the uncertainty principle is not abstract physics it produced the transistor, the computer which we are employing right now and it had its mark on the nuclear bomb

  • @amedhat86 Lord Kelvin once asserted that "heavier than air machines can not fly". He presented reasoning & logic. Luckily there was skepticism & better methods & theories prevailed. Limitations may exist, but sometimes we invent them. We even teach them until we find better answers. Sometimes an answer is an end, it can't be improved upon, but in trying to improve, we stray. Our limitations aren't proof that there is an invisible god controlling a world that appears empirically to be material.

  • @CHAS1422 i agree with this line of thought, but , first of all, i never said anything about the impact of having limitations on suggesting the existence of god or not i simply said that physical parameters are truly limited by virtue of their existence in a state out of many different ones you just assumed that i was arguing for religion because i was saying it in defence of a philosophical concept put forth by a religious man, which should not impact your bias when critiquing his idea

  • @CHAS1422 second of all, the physical limitedness that has been proven is not related to issues of theory or creativity like the example you mentioned but rather they are based on "theorems" rather than theory like the incompleteness theorem, and a theorem as you might know is factual not conjectural it is exactly like saying 1+1=2. and even if u think these theorems could not be proof for the existence of god, they most certainly are proof of the limitedness of our control over the world

  • @CHAS1422 "Our limitations aren't proof that there is an invisible god controlling a world that appears empirically to be material"- WHERE did this empirical "material" come from?

Besides..have you seen a PARALYZED person who cannot talk but with normal brain function? They will tell..that we humans are not Almighty... needs to be HUMBLED to reach the soul... CHAS1422... just because i saw..this I hope you will be blessed to be Humbled & Humiliated..so you can break free and find TRUTH.

  • @ssehram Your question: "WHERE did this empirical "material" come from?" Does not lead to a conclusion. If you say that God (or Allah, or Vishnu, etc..) is infinite then you introduce yet another infinite agent of causation. I do not have the answer to where it came from any more than you. An answer is available by knowing all material causation and tracing the steps from the current state backward, but of course that is impossible. Perhaps the universe is in an infinite state of transition.

  • @CHAS1422

flesh is heavier than air and birds made of flesh can fly......................

  • al ghazali is consedered as one of the greatest philosophers in history

fantastic, i love it :) thanx for upload

  • :)Salaam..

..this song always reminds me of a poor boy who has nothing but the love of his mother..;)

  • Allah loves each child 70 times more than his mother

  • Salal ALaikum,,the hAdith is not like that. it is " Allah loves us seventy times more than a mother loves her child" Imam Malik regarded it as weak even though it had a good sanad but one was missing. Abo Dawood reported it. its not that "Allah loves each chilw 70 times more than his mother"

  • prachtig!

    rita

  • BEAUTIFUL!!

All Man Kind should see this!

  • For Al-Gazali, this world was a prison, and he has been set free, alhamdulillah.

  • They took the background theme song straight out of a 1980's Fist of the Northstar (Hokuto No Ken) Japanese Anime episode.. heh, but it is tasteful.

  • This poem is very deep and comes from a shrewed soul...Masha-Allah.

  • I have brought this to the attention of several friends, and they all had the same reaction--it brought tears to their eyes. Thanks for posting this....

  • i had the same reaction too

  • Amazing!

  • Farsi because some of the most beautiful literature ever written is in this language.

I love my native language, Turkish too. However, Arabic and Farsi should be learned by all Muslims and those who appreciate sound literature.

I can say one word "yavash" :P

  • This touches my heart, even till this day.

Alhamdulillah... I want to learn Arabic and Farsi someday, Insha Allah!

  • I want to learn Arabic and Farsi too. My father can speak both, if only he taught me.

  • I am awed. Peace/Salaam

  • There is a reason that he is called the "Proof of Islam," and, historically, the only one's (among Muslims) that oppossed him were ones deviated (groups or individuals) from the traditional approach of Islam. Ghazali's oppinions are not always considered the most reliable opinion on a particular question, but the fact that something was the Imams opinion is still worthy of consideration even if, say for example, that Imam Nawawi's opinion was different on a matter. May Allah guide us all. Amin

  • I was just wondering why H nevr use the word Allah and never even praise our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for me Prophet Muhammad is the greatest and nobody can compare to him.

  • Ofcourse prophet Muhammed(saw) was the greatest and im sure imam Ghazali had alot more love for him then anyone today, he didnt devote his life to the teaching of the prophet and quran for nothing.

  • Dear, Randal 2020

To all of us (those who believe in the existence of our world through the creation of the one who created all beings) GOD ( the one that are minds could not comprehend). Whatever that is on this planet and (existence)is the work and masterpiece of the maker (The one god) there is no god but one god for all( this is the message of Islam)now, let us look at evolution.

  • Are we evolved beings? How could we have our being exist and function while we are evolving? My mind is not evolving, my legs are not evolving, my heart is not evolving, where is evolution? One of the laws of evolution states: all beings must struggle towards perfection that could never exist? why? If you take out a persons brain, he will not function, this itself is against the laws of evolution? In truth, Darwin, himself was powerless man.

  • He walked on this planet while denying the existence of the maker, he himself was not a evolved being, for he had no power over his own existence nor did he struggle for the air he breathed , nor for the life that was given to him. In truth, all existence is the result of the gods creation( who are 1.5 kilogram brain could not comprehend the nature of his being) that is why Ghazali says, you move your hand, ( it is god that give you this hand and the ability to move your hand)

  • al-Ghazali was not a great thinker, but the opposite. He was instrumental in putting to an end scientific development in the Islamic world.

His explanation for almost everything was "Allah does it". What makes you hand move, why Allah of course. He is largely responsible for the backwardness of the Islamic world today.

There is a youtube about him and science.

  • You couldn't be further from the truth.

He did NOTHING of the sort. Imam Al-Ghazali spent his life in the pursuit of knowledge and helped enlighten those around him.

I bet you didn't even read one of his 400+ books, which he dedicated his a large portion of his life to write.

Your type of ignorance will take you no where!

  • ???

  • Talk about being a Positive Thinker...I too working towards being the ultimate Positive Thinker...the one that welcomes death with serenity and piety with a hint of joy.

  • Wow, man!

    That's so nice.

  • Simply beautiful!! It makes one to embrace death, subhan'Allah. Thank you for sharing.

  • Excellent ! ! !

  • Bring tears to my eyes. Imam Al Ghazali RA and greats like him is one of the main reasons why Islam has still survived as a colossus and last chapter of the divine code, which was initiated from Adam AS and culminated to our Holy Prophet Salal Lahu Alihe Wasalam.
