  • RIP Dan. Thanks for the music. Your spirit and your music continue to live in us all.

  • Farewell Dan, you were and integral part of the soundtrack to my life, and oft times remind me of so many of the most memorable times in my life, with your songs playing at that very moment.

each time I hear them, I smile.

    Thank You.

  • Dan, bless & keep you...you are the reason I love music

  • Sandman is my last name! Thanks for everything, Dan.

  • Dan while your up in the Heavens teach Ms. Winehouse the meaning of life she gave up so early.

  • it is true...i was introduced to america's music when i was 13-14 by an older cousin and i never looked back...my taste in music has never been the same!

  • Softrock? I love this band.

  • Those who doesn't chance their taste, are those who don't research.

  • We Aint Had No Time To Drink That Beer........

  • I have loved America since 1972 when I was 18. I have met the guys several times and I have enjoyed their music for 40 years. This is a kick ass version of this song. This is a one badass rock band

  • I first heard this when I was in 1st grade and absolutely loved it. I'm 14 now and STILL love this song.

  • @SHODANFan , I wish I was 14 again and knew what I know now, All this music is new to you and you get to enjoy the excitement of discovering it...There's alot of it

  • WHY

  • Don´t get me wrong. I am a huge fan of this guys since 1970 but i have to say this: The worst covering band of America is...America. They always play similar tunes. The beautiful versions are in old LPs. They simply can´t play like that anymore.

  • @bronzester Dude it's 40 years later. Cut 'em some slack.

  • @89801wink i have to disagree man. I have the recordings made in Germany in 1974. It hurts my ears. The truth is that they were surrounded by excellent musicians when they recorded the original albuns. Peace

  • It is the ballad of the story of Logan 5

  • love the lyrics.awesome lyrics.

  • Saw them a couple of years ago at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, was the best concert I have ever been to, I was 17 at the time. I am now 22 and it is still the best concert I have ever experienced.

  • I had a CB Radio in the 80's (Children that is an ancient communication device before we had cell phones (or before they were affordable)) Anyway, my handle was "Sandman" because of this song and because I was a HUGE America fan.

  • fellow humans....shes gonna let you down is one of their best and least known aongs.......bring it up

  • los buenos siguen estando siempre ahí, que maravilla de música¡excepcionales AMERICA!

  • Still sounding greatttttttt, wayyyyy to gooooo, awesomeeeee, AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!! \0/ (K) \0/

  • a flashback of my 1975 venture in college days

  • What the hell is an abandoned hurricane?

  • @dkopman thats where the allegator lizards live ....

  • Fantastico!!!!

  • i had a friend in the early 70's who would give me a ride home from time to time so i didnt have to ride the bus all the time.i had a 12 string guitar that i drug around with me everywhere.his payment for bringing me home was for me to play this song for him which i thought was pretty cool because he was & older senior & i was a sophmore. music rocks.

  • @jplafoot Music brings all kinds of people together...be it difference in age, race, sexuality etc.,

  • still great musicians...love them.

  • im only 75 and i love this song

  • @PEDROCLASSIC yet Your finger bones survive keyboard typing? Nice. Must've been a sportsman or smth.. ;) no offence

  • To hear them live at the BBC studios was truly one my best experiences.I saw many bands there but America came prepared with a great set of music...and talent.

  • This song should have been on the soundtrack to Logan's Run.

  • @stsancho yo nice thinking, look at my tag !

  • I find this so weird...I'm a metalhead--I listen to the modern heavy metal almost anytime I have a stereo playing--but I absolutely love this song. I believe its the chorus because its so original and it flows so well. I'm only seventeen, and I believe that today's bands can definitely learn something from even just this song.

  • I remember dancing to this in the disco, I loved this song :)

  • I received this album as a birthday present at the age of 14 in November 1972. In the 3 days following I knew all the words and was singing along with the album. This performance goes to show that altho the song is 38 years old the band still sounds as if it hasnt aged one bit....

  • Early 70's. I was a lonely teenager like most of us. I sat in my dad's car at night listening to the 8track all night dreaming of girls and faded jeans!

  • @piercethevale I think the man from Afghanistan is already hear.. and I think he wants to kill us

  • @9hoser can you blame him? hes just misunderstood...

  • ytiuyuytitiiytiutitiyt

  • This song came out of conversations the three of them had with some guys returning from Viet Nam stationed at the base where they lived. They were told that you had to do your best to stay awake while in country in 'Nam, thus running from the Sandman as well as the rest of the lyrics such as "did you hear of my enlistment." This songs a blast to play, too.

  • I was 5, and my older brother bought this album brand new. He said if I didn't close my eyes and sleep @ bedtime the sandman would come and put sand in my eyes.

  • Still a classic without Dan, although he is certainly missed. America still remains one of my top five groups of all time. A genuine classic!

  • @jad50 where is Dan?

  • @mastertusk According to Dan Peeks own web page he got disenchanted and was unhappy with his life of drug usage during his 7 yr stint with America and left the band in the 1977 and has never reunited with Dewey or Gerry altho both sang back up for 2 of Dans solo albums

  • FUCJ EAG

  • What a shame the three are not together. Without Dan this is just window dressing. The Beatles without John? No The Who without Pete? No America without Dan Peek? Sad :(

  • while traveling the other day, i picked up a classic rock station and dropped jaw when i heard this song come on. i turned up the volume and drifted down the road so caught up in a sweet music memory.

  • this song has so mch relationes to 9/11 maybe it s me but this would match up well with some 9/11 video????????????

  • Great sounds...Brings back lots of memories.

  • best america track ever imho

  • yes it's good, but ventura highway might be better... Come on..."chewin' on a piece of grass...walking down the road. Tell me how long we got to stay here, Joe..."You must admit that the Ventura Highway is a good one. It's an elite track, brude. Oh, brude is a word I made up 2day. It's a cross btw 'brother' and 'dude.' It sounds dorkey and hope no one starts saying it. I actually said it on accident to a friend of mine. I was trying to say bro and dude. It came out brude. Embarrasing.

  • i like america the best of all times

  • cool...

  • what a warm story 9hoser . music has a tremendous impact on all earthlings

  • Esto si que suena bien y no la mierda de version de los Arizona Baby, que otros temas ser los haran mejor seguro

  • Regardless of women´s lib; this is a song for us guys! I am in no way dismissing gals, but hey, we need it don´t we?

  • Man, I wish there was a studio version of this song on YouTube!

  • @piercethevale

    Curtiss Maldoon,

"The Man from Afghanistan" from his 1971 eponymous album.

  • Hell remind me when I was a kid

  • ...just beautiful...

  • Amazing how you never run out of new (old) songs to learn. Awesome!

  • Awesome band.

  • I listened to this music when I was 6yrs old, and I still listen to this song. GREAT SONG!

    ROCK ON AMERICA!!!!

  • best ameria song imo awesome acoustic band.

  • my dad taught me this song when i was and i have known it ever since...

  • I was 14 ,I recieved a new stereo for Christmas,Had this new thing called F.M.,8-track and a cassett player W/Turntable,I was checking out the FM dial when I came acrosss 102.5 KSFM..EARTHMUSIC,This song was playing and I recorded it to cassett.I played it over and over because I had never heard anything like it. My taste in music completely changed ..forever.........

  • @9hoser ditto

  • @9hoser Nicley said I agree!

  • @9hoser

You know, I grew up loving America's songs. When I was in my early 20s, I decided I had to have a CD with "Horse with no name" on it in my collection and picked up a "Best of America" CD, When I heard "Sandman" on it, I quickly decided this was my favorite America song of all time. Definitely a timeless classic! :-)

  • @JarnBjorn72 I still have mine and love to listen to it

  • @9hoser those werethe days .. i remember sitting on a sunday with my taper ecorder recording off the radio ,hated it when the presenters talked ove rthe start or the end of a song

  • @9hoser Well, luckily it changed for good hahahha

  • @9hoser a stereo with an 8 track and a cassette player?why would they make a stereo that had 8 track and cassette?

  • @jayfey77 . Good question... Cassets were new and people still had stacks of 8-Track tapes..You couldn't record on to 8-Tracks, But Cassets you could and now you could record from your stereo. Before you would attach a Mic to a tape recorder and put it in front of your speakers.1st Album Zeppelin 1, 1st 8-Track, Pink Floyd, D.S.O.T.M.

  • @9hoser win

  • @9hoser que lindo comentario, que bello recuerdo, es que América nos cambió. En julio, hace menos de un mes murió Dan Peek, el rubio cantante del grupo. Que tristeza.

  • Rumour was this was about RAF Upper Heyford. I was there then this came out. The lyrics make a lot of sense.

  • AMERICA is the greatest band ever !

Still going strong, latest release HERE AND NOW. GERRY has a solo, HORIZONATL FALL. Both excellent works, great music.

  • excellent tune, from the 70's,, blends right in with modern excellence

  • we aint had no time to drink that beer..... reminds me of a buddy I havnt seen in awhile.

  • great song - instrumental sounds fine but the vocals seem outta off...kinda outta sync

  • hell to the fucking yah.

  • Saw them in PA on Oct. 17th. Awesome concert. They did this with a awesome backdrop of woodstock, nam, Nixon etc. It was awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • Was it awesome ??

  • Just saw Dewey and Gerry in concert and talked to them....it's DEFINITELY Dewey on the left and Gerry on the right! They ROCK out loud!!!!

  • brilliant

  • +~+~*

  • Dan Peek was never the lead on this song. Dewey Bunnell wrote it, and is the lead on it, and always has been since the beginning.

  • Just gorgeous. I can't even speak, much less type. Wow! What memories.

  • i love the chorus its always in my head :P

  • just heard em last nite

  • "Sandman" was from their 1972 debut album, AMERICA, and it should've been released as a single because it's the best damn song on the album in my opinion. This song definitely showed the music world that they were not just some trio that performs 3-part harmony acoustic songs.

  • I saw them in concert yesterday! Theyre awsoem!

  • Awesome

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great

  • One of my all-time favorite songs...And it was written in the 70's...Where did all the years go????

  • i don't know stacy.......was like yesterday.

  • I hear ya there..the years do go by fast..

    kickass song,

  • Comment removed

  • No this song was written way before 9-11

  • No. This song was written about the Air Force pilots coming back from Vietnam, and what they went through both in country and back in the World.

It was the B-side of "Horse With No Name," I believe, and the best song they ever wrote.

  • damn, i didnt know that, and I'm a Nam Vet,, pilots are a special breed,,love this song,,thanks dude!.

  • No probs, man.

  • I am so glad I have seen America 8 times through my 46 yrs - I wish it was twice that - the cool thing is that most of them were at Pine Knob in Clarkston, MI what a great place for them to play - they know the place and they rocked everytime. Best time in the front row!!!

  • this song brings back pain

  • um, u need to see a chiropractor!!!

awesome song...this song has haunted me and will till the sandman gets me

  • he flys the sky like an eagle in the eye of a hurriane that's abandon

  • Rockin' song!!!! :D

  • And the really bad part of this song, (yes it does vary from the book and movie concept), is that his friends enlistment, was into the sandmen. Now he gets to kill his friend, a "RUNNER"

  • This song was written and recorded years before Logans Run... who cares!

  • Theme from the movie "LOGAN'S RUN"

  • Beautiful.

  • Don't know what it is, but this is one of my all time favorate songs....

  • It's very funny to sing this song! :-D

  • This brings back SO many memories. I was with a band for many years that covered this song and did it in much the same way -- very guitar driven with extended leads including lots of slide. Thanks for posting, and thanks for bringing back some great memories!
