actually where im still learning right now, we are warned to never punch like that because sometimes the opponent grabs our hand and presses the top part of our wrists down, we are going to go down. because the opponent will have a better leverage. then when our hand gets down, they will use their body weight to push us to the floor. dangerous to punch that way if the opponent knows how to counter that punch. but yeah that still comes down to who is faster
ok, basically if you saw an ITF TKD punch in a fight and/or sparring it would look just like a boxer's punch. what you see here is for forms, spiritual practice etc. a punch is a punch, be it Jeet Kune Do, Taekwondo, Karate or Muay Thai. No one suggests that to punch in ITF TKD you would go into horse stance. ((roll eyes)) @ people who have never studied TKD
@callofduty4rocks132 that is probably used for training. instead of just training the arms, you get to toughen up your hips and legs. kill 2 birds with 1 stone
i assume you are taking TaekWonDo. In my opinion a practical aspect of this martial art lies solely in having a physical workout. As a tool to fighting TaekWonDo is greatly lacking when compared to Mauy Thai, Boxing, Kickboxing, MMA, ect... Power in ur punches comes from pivoting your hips and transferring energy along the kinetic chain of your body into your first as you extend your arm. As you see in this video, this technique is absent. It is a poor way to train for a fight!
IF im not mistaking MMA is a compition between mixes of martial arts its not a martial art itself on top of it i take Ninjitsu And TKD. Im 2nd degree black belt in both of the arts
I enjoyed your video, If you need help getting your video exposed i use a service at Tubeviews . Net They offer views, ratings, and comments. They helped my video get ranked on the first page
tkd is useless in punching. in tkd, you cant punch your opponent on head. thats why you often see tkd fighter with guard down. they emphasize so much on kicking. so in actual fight, useless unless your one of those hard out tkd fighter
you're talking about sports tae kwon do then... there are many styles of tkd where you can punch them in the head. and that's not why you see tkd fighter with guard down, it's because kick and punches can come from all direction. but i agree with u in that tkd punching as seen in this video = highly impractical. And i agree to u in an extent that they should keep their guard up when they're in range. But u'll see most of them trying to evade attack by using their feet than to block.
God I remember this from when I used to do TKD... Most impractical martial art ever... Ive just started Muay Thai and BJJ... SOOO much better and so much more usefull
ehhh tkd can be practical and impractical depending on the fighter. i gotta say, if u're not smart, like more than half the technique in tae kwon do = uber useless, but there are few, yet HIGHLY effective kicks in tae kwon do that can really be used in a fight. I took boxing and tae kwon do and mixing the two together strenghtens each other's weaknesses and it's pretty solid. but i agree, OVERALL muay thai is probably one of the BEST martial art out there. I'm planning to study muay t and JJ
and the reason why tae kwon do seems so impractical is because how it was created, TKD was a martial art where there were no room confinements aka, rings. I mean there WERE but they were MUCH bigger. Muay thai fighter fighting a TKD fighter on a LARGE ring = he wont have many chances to throw elbows and knees. TKD is a pretty defensive and evasive form of martial art, i have confidence using tkd in a big room for fights.
once you learn more then you learn how to fight and incorporate the lessons. it would be like saying, what is the point of learning the alphabet if it doesn't teach you how to read. you need to know what the individual words are before you can put together a word.
yes i know why. but i didnt see the point in teaching a punch that would be useless in combat. because martial arts where first invented as a form of self defense (karate for example)
yes, but to learn how to make a good punch in a fighting situation, you first have to learn the basic mechanics. then as all the noobs can manage that they are shown more complex techniques that make it effective for a fight.

@dima093432 I'm not defending tkd but the stances this guy shows are only used in tkd forms and exercises, not in actually sparring.
privateer456 1 year ago
@dima093432 you are incorrect, ITF TKD very much teaches "full hip rotation", as they called it at our studio.

TKD was made to kick samurais off horses, not to fight in a ring.
Lookpastthelie 3 years ago
no it wasnt if you look up TKD history you wont find anything about kicking people off of horses.

im sure you have a strong punch, but you dont have any leverage cause i thought you have to have your foot behind you for power

well then what is the point of training to do martial arts if your not going to be in combat.

clearly you are not a Martial Artist.....
