To be honest, the 5200's internal hardware was almost *identical* to the 400/800 and XL computer line anyway.
The only real work in porting this (or any Atari 800/XL/XE computer game) to the 5200 would be to alter some register locations (very straightforward) and to rewrite the joystick routines for the 5200's different controllers.
It was kind of stupid of Atari to have two different lines that were almost identical but not directly software-compatible due to minor changes.
Actually, the graphics seen in that sequence were pretty state of the art for 1983 and not retro at all. I recall games like Elevator Action and Mappy at the time and this looked better than those. Funny that they used Pac-Man sound effects, though. Even in movies today classic videogame sound effects are dubbed in during similar scenes.
Thanks a milliopn for the final legacy reference, I had been looking for that game for ages and couldn"t remeber the name. I knew what it was right away when i heard the music, It"s a much better game than superman, in fact, I"d put it in top 10 of all 800xl games...
This game reminds me of the superman returns video game. In this you fly around and bascally shoot rays with your eye beams at the computer beams over and over. After the story line ends in the Superman returns game you just fly around in a loop doing the same thing over and over. At least this one gets faster.
I also heard of an urban legend that the original graphics for the scene were even more impressive, but Warner Bros. didn;t think it looked enough ike a video game so they changed it to look like this.
That sequence cost ninety thousand dollars and four months to make?
Pfft. Anyone can whip something like that simplistic up in a weekend for nothing now.

A great review that didn't need to rely on mountains of profanity to be interesting and informative. Great job!

When I saw Superman III I was a big fan of Superman the arcade game. I wished that the footage shown in the movie was part of the game!

AH, Superman the arcade game was actually VERY similar to Superman 3, in parts anyway.
I think every 3rd level had you flying, using you're eyes to blow up bombs and missiles, very similar to Superman 3 movie.
GREAT game to what I thought was a great movie, even though I know I'm in the minority there.

I've always loved videogames, but i can`t get to like Atari, i find that the games are horrible. I started with the NES and i love the NES.
