Just found out about this movie today. I think I would have liked it if I saw it back in the day.... and when i think about that i kinda want to watch it.
OMG!!!!!!!!! I couldn't remember the name of this movie, but I have searched for it for years online and on Netflix and could never figure it out. Then I sign onto Youtube and it is in my recommended folder because of previous searches I have done. I can't believe it. Yessssa!
ok, i'm an English Lit. dork....but it reminds me of Milton: "better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven" ---- and her "why be the Princess of Cornwall when I can be the Queen of England?"
Princess of Cornwall?.... Ah ha ha ha ha hah hah hah, o dear me....... Ah ha ha ha ha hah ha ha ha h....... 'Why be princess of Cornwall when I can be Queen of Swindon?
I've just seen this movie on a big screen at a revival theater in Hollywood. First time I've ever seen it. A complete revelation. Great movie with a lot in it to recommend. This clip does not do it justice. See it if you can.
Classic film. I prefer it to '7nth Voyage' only because it is more imaginative in it's characters & it's plotting. The effects R a mixed bag to be sure. Some R hopelessly sub-Harryhausen but others R memorable in their own right. The witches storming the ship is one of many such sequences, this film was a big influence on my imagination as a child. Probably my first fatasy movie I ever saw.
This gave me the first hard on I can remember, when I was 4. And I never became a goth or dated an evil witches (well the formers true) , weird to see the clip now.
One of my favorite films from 1962! I own a copy of it and still am entranced by some of the effects and I love that eerie choral music! Looking back, though, the animation can't compare with Harryhausen's "7th Voyage of Sinbad." Both movies boasted the same lead male actors and director... "Sinbad" had its genie in the lamp.... "Jack" had the Imp in the Bottle! "Sinbad" had its Cyclops and Dragon duel while "Jack" showed a similar battle with Galligantua and the tentacled sea beast!
Yeah, I've always been surprised she never made a bigger impact.
Accoding to imdb:
13 October 1936, Portland, Oregon, USA
Has green eyes and chestnut hair
She was a star figure skater with the Ice Follies as youngster, but then she broke her back in an accident, and was told she would never skate again. She did - but then broke her kneecap. She turned to acting in 1956, when George Burns spotted her in a stock play, and gave her a steady part on his show.
she looks better as the evil witch! love the costume and makeup. she reminds me of a Disney villain.

This is awesome! They should do a remake of this with more beautiful, evil witches in it.
Imagine how sexy and evil they would look with today's makeup and costumes.

Imdb says that a remake of Jack the giant killer is in the works, however I have no idea if it will be based on this film or the fairytales.

Oh, I hope it's based on this film!

My first crush was on this Witch. I think there is another Witch too that I remember fancying even more.
I think in the film Jack breaks the mirror and the witches turn back to normal girls...I was so disappointed!
