Gran Turismo was built from ground to be a true driving simulator. Microsoft just created Forza series just because they got jealous! Forza did a good job, but sorry, Gran Turismo is and always will be the king of racing simulations.

LOL 82 and 85 in car models for GT5P? More like 100. I hate how these guys don't even mention this is only a "beta" type game and talk about it like it's the full version. You can easily tell they have never played any of the GT series games before because they would be stupid enough to say that GT5P doesn't have modifications, or at least be clear about it. Two things GT5 needs work on is sounds and computer AI and it will be perfect.
I really don't think you can compare the two. GT5P is basically a demo of some of the things we can expect to see in the final version of the game. Forza 2 is a full game so of course there would be more features and a better package overall. judging by the final result here, I think the full version of GT5 will be brilliant when it finally comes out because the demo version gave Forza 2 a run for its money. when GT5 comes out. I would love to see you guys compare the full GT5 and Forza 3
@datslok1 GT5 is adding car damage because for a "Driving simulation game" you need consequences to keep the player alert of running into cars/driving off the road/etc.
A chore getting the licenses?. what Licenses? you can use almost any wheel and pedal with gt5p not with forza though a g25 and gt5p and a playseat are an awesome combimnation forza 2 with the microsoft spaceship wheel is so unrealistic and BORING
yes it is a chore when I have to run the same races over and over again. We're running Forza 3 with a 911 Turbo S wheel in our GameRacer or HotSeat Chassis. Where's GT5 ?
compared to other titles.. notjust Forza.. The sounds in GT5P are just "ok".. Expand your horizons dude and try more than just the GT series.. GT5 should be a great title when it finally comes out.

I can't believe they gave Forza 2 a better score for car models. Sure, Forza is the better simulator. But it's consensus that Gran Turismo's visuals are better. And their car models are second to none. Polyphony Digital are artists. Their art direction is superior and it makes a big difference, even against the mighty Forza 3 which has superbly detailed tracks but is done by brute force with little artistic trickery involved. I take art direction more than pushing the polygon count.
GT visuals are better which is why it scored higher in graphics.. Car models also includes amount of cars, not just th modeling of the. This scoring is mute at this point, We've revised our system to be weighted for our most current reviews. If they ever release GT5, we'll put it up against FM3
Technically, only the cars and roads in GT5:P are better, and look better as well. Everything else, especially environments, are better in Forza 2 and 3. Technically better and visually better are two different things, mind you.
Also, 7.1 sounds don't mean crap if the car itself sounds mediocre. That's the case with Gran Turismo. Seriously, get rid of the spec sheet. Either that or you don't really care care or know about cars and racing.

You can mount it wherever you want... the problem with that shifter is that it feels plastic and loose (you can try to mod it but it's difficult and you could lose the warranty). If it's not an issue to you go for it.
I enjoy playing forza 3 a lot. Game is so good I had to break out the MS Wheel from storage and it's been even better since. If GT5 never comes out....I'm good.

I was always a GT fanboy but the wait, and particularly now that forza 3 has roled around, I think is converting quite a few. Unless GT5 is excells in every area, its going to be a disappointment.
GT5 is going to be a whole package. rally, f1 and nascar all in one. Im pretty much sure the graphics are already going to be better than forza 3 and im pretty sure the physics is gonna be right there with forza 3 so i can wait as long as polyphony wants me too, as long as its a driving game to remember. For now i always have forza 3.
F3 isnt all that impressing. its f 2 with more cars and tracks and an interior view (of course there is more to forza but not to the masses). GT5 will have weather changes, more cars, NASCAR (lame to me but will grab nascar fans), WRC, F1 and i hear the rumor of MOTORCYCLES. THATS THE WHOLE PACKAGE! The thing hard to beat will be forza's physics engine. I don't think u can get anymore realistic then that, but who knows, with kaz, anything is possible. don't get me wrong, i am very happy with F3!

The physics engine on FORZA is top right now and a big improvement over the last. It is almost impossible to drive an r1 r2 or r3 without traction control and the same apllies in the game.
And I'm talking about class A cars u moron. Read! Not R3-R2-R1. In real life you MUST be careful using full throttle with RWD cars such as: Ferrari 360 Modena, F40, F50 (S call in the game), Porsche 911 GT2/GT3, Dodge Viper SRT10, Mercedes SL65AMG black edition. In fm3 with tcs off you wont feel a damn thing, just like going on a railroad. I lost control of only one car with the accelerator all way down: corvette z06.
what i don't like about forza 3 though is the fact that they are a bit too arcadey now, not physics wise, but tuning wise. ITs a bit to Imaginative....RWD FIESTA WITH 600 hp? come on now. kinda ruins the point of having ferraris and other fast exotics in the game imo. The tuning should have been more realistic.
did u try to handle 600hp in this game? ive fully tuned ae86 and this car is spinning wheels on fifth gear. its absolutely unhandleble (i dont know if you have word like this:/, im not english, but u know what i mean). so here is your answer: even if u do 600hp fiesta, this car wouldnt drive as good as ferrari with the same break.
I obviously am not stupid enough to disagree with this because GT5P is NOT a sim in my opinion. However, while I love both games, I am 100% sure that the actual GT5 will destroy Forza 3.They just take the time to perfect everything at Polyphony (in the final game versions). I hope they do a shootout of those games, or this shootout is unjustified... essentially taking a big demo VS a full sim.

Forza just always had a more fun feeling and more feedback from the game to (in my case) gamepad. I love GT, but to me Forza has been the better game since it came out. Forza 3 vs. GT5... wish I could say but my PS3 is now gone. FM3 looks amazing though.

gt5 only really won 1 thing that graphics and that was said to be because forza2 had no in car view driving and thats what forza3 has now done. so forza2 wins overall which is about right but the real battle is between forza3 v gt5 full version that should be more fun. happy gaming guys. ;-)
Forza 2 and 3 hold the title of having the most advanced physics engine of any racing game to date, it seriously cannot be beat. Check out google and read some of the things it does when your driving, its crazy.
Showing tire calculations and spring rates etc does not equate to a good physics engine. Those numbers mean nothing unless they are backed up by a solid physics engine, which is not the case with Forza ;)
Forza 2 is over 2 years old, the prologue is supposed to show whats in store for the game which wasnt very impressive tbh, GT slowly but surely is going to go down the pan, we have worldwide professional car tuners, painters, drifters, Dragracers etc. thats how good forza is, you still only will have around 170 cars with damage HAHAHA, il be playing my full damage racing sim while you are playing your bumper car physics driving sim.

Wait till Forza 3. The car models are going to be twice the polys of GT5 car models, but I think only the wheels are noticeably superior. GT5 has a couple of straight lines on road surfaces (Just on wheels, seen in a Gamescom screenshot of the latest build), but FM3 has smooth lines.
I believe that both should be pretty much equal in terms of graphics by the time both are in their final builds... if GT5 ever gets released that is! :S

Only about 170+ cars will have "premium models" which will mean that damage will affect the car's interior as well.. So say if you grand slam you car doing 100+mph; expect to see damage action INSIDE the cockpit view as well.
Well you do realize that if you downshift from redlining in first gear and slam it into reverse in FM2 that you will fry your engine and the gearbox will be ruined. You can also bend your steering column, knock the wheels out of alignment, destroy your brakes independently of one another, and you can shred your tires.All of those damage points have hundreds of levels of severity as well. So if that's not damage I don't know what is.
So if its a demo, then why do you have to pay for it?They should have released it for free rather than milking GT fans with 2 of the same game. Forza 3 will be out by the time GT5 comes out so that will be a whole new comparison.

What a load of bull. I'm a fan of all of those franchises and have played them all extensively. Need for Speed is all about sense of speed and has unparalleled sound design. Forza is in the middle of GT and NFS. Great sound design, simulation physics, DAMAGE, and stellar AI. GT has fantastic road noise and terrible car and tire sounds. There is also NO DAMAGE or AI to speak of and no consequences for crappy driving or cheating. GT has stellar graphics and car selection.
The reason why GT has no damage is because they want push graphics and physics as real as they can within the limitation of ps2. forza 2 released in 2007 is 3 three years later than GT4 and forza's fans still compare forza 2 with gt4.

The damage to your car negatively effects speed and handling and is more than just a scratch. Do you call it real when you hit something going 190 MPH and NOTHING happens like GT? Also, you need to play with a wheel to make a proper assessment of both games. GT is significantly more difficult with a wheel than a controller..... I don't even get how people can play GT or Forza with a controller and not a wheel.

I highly doubt you have both wheel setups. I don't own both setups, but I have a close friend with Forza and a wheel, and it is a joke. High speed oversteer is easy to save, which is not the case with GT, GT will snap on you at high speed if your not good.
I have lot's of real life experience with this, and Forza is garbage. I've driven some of the greatest tracks in the world, been sideways in Eau Rouge at 100+ in the rain, I know what I'm talking about..... what experience do you have?

Actually this has yet to be officially announced by Polyphony. There have been multiple translations of the information that was posted, some think only 250 have damage, some say they all do.
To put it simpler, imagine that they it wasnt called gt5:p but by another name without affiliation with gran turismo. Then no one would be saying that the reviews are unfair. Continued:

I am a staunch supporter of gran turismo. I've played most of their games and thoroughly enjoy it. I've never played forza before. So I can understand how the gt fans feels about this review. However, they are doing reviews on both games that are out according to those criteria they used in the review. And I think based on those criteria, both games got a fair score. Remember, they are not comparing forza2 with gt5, but with gt5:p which is the best racing game for the ps3 out there to date.
Both are great games, people forget that GT5 isnt a complete game. Trying to get a game online on GT5 is a mission so it gets thumbs down for me because of that.

As for cars and tracks, they only have 13 cars and most of their circuits (99% of them) are American, with 24 are ovals (boring!).
Also, "the simulation is still missing several features often found on comparable products. For example, environment conditions such as temperature are static, and clutch and transmission modeling is lacking"

On "demo", a prologue$, i agree, is not a demo, and the lack of damage should hit the rating of a racegame.

I can't believe they gave Forza 2 a better score for car models. Sure, Forza is the better simulator. But it's consensus that Gran Turismo's visuals are better. And their car models are second to none. Polyphony Digital are artists. Their art direction is superior and it makes a big difference, even against the mighty Forza 3 which has superbly detailed tracks but is done by brute force with little artistic trickery involved. I take art direction more than pushing the polygon count.

GT visuals are better which is why it scored higher in graphics.. Car models also includes amount of cars, not just th modeling of the. This scoring is mute at this point, We've revised our system to be weighted for our most current reviews. If they ever release GT5, we'll put it up against FM3

Technically, only the cars and roads in GT5:P are better, and look better as well. Everything else, especially environments, are better in Forza 2 and 3. Technically better and visually better are two different things, mind you.
Also, 7.1 sounds don't mean crap if the car itself sounds mediocre. That's the case with Gran Turismo. Seriously, get rid of the spec sheet. Either that or you don't really care care or know about cars and racing.

You can mount it wherever you want... the problem with that shifter is that it feels plastic and loose (you can try to mod it but it's difficult and you could lose the warranty). If it's not an issue to you go for it.

I was always a GT fanboy but the wait, and particularly now that forza 3 has roled around, I think is converting quite a few. Unless GT5 is excells in every area, its going to be a disappointment.

GT5 is going to be a whole package. rally, f1 and nascar all in one. Im pretty much sure the graphics are already going to be better than forza 3 and im pretty sure the physics is gonna be right there with forza 3 so i can wait as long as polyphony wants me too, as long as its a driving game to remember. For now i always have forza 3.

F3 isnt all that impressing. its f 2 with more cars and tracks and an interior view (of course there is more to forza but not to the masses). GT5 will have weather changes, more cars, NASCAR (lame to me but will grab nascar fans), WRC, F1 and i hear the rumor of MOTORCYCLES. THATS THE WHOLE PACKAGE! The thing hard to beat will be forza's physics engine. I don't think u can get anymore realistic then that, but who knows, with kaz, anything is possible. don't get me wrong, i am very happy with F3!

Have you ever tried the Ferrari F40 in FM3? You can do whatever you want but even with ALL aids off this twin turbocharged V8 monster will always feel like a 4WD... wtf seriously

maybe because u have your damn TCS on you idiot. If u own forza 3 or 2 u would know with tcs off and stability off, u can loose control of practically almost all supercars. The physics engine on FORZA is top right now and a big improvement over the last. It is almost impossible to drive an r1 r2 or r3 without traction control and the same apllies in the game.

And I'm talking about class A cars u moron. Read! Not R3-R2-R1. In real life you MUST be careful using full throttle with RWD cars such as: Ferrari 360 Modena, F40, F50 (S call in the game), Porsche 911 GT2/GT3, Dodge Viper SRT10, Mercedes SL65AMG black edition. In fm3 with tcs off you wont feel a damn thing, just like going on a railroad. I lost control of only one car with the accelerator all way down: corvette z06.

what i don't like about forza 3 though is the fact that they are a bit too arcadey now, not physics wise, but tuning wise. ITs a bit to Imaginative....RWD FIESTA WITH 600 hp? come on now. kinda ruins the point of having ferraris and other fast exotics in the game imo. The tuning should have been more realistic.

did u try to handle 600hp in this game? ive fully tuned ae86 and this car is spinning wheels on fifth gear. its absolutely unhandleble (i dont know if you have word like this:/, im not english, but u know what i mean). so here is your answer: even if u do 600hp fiesta, this car wouldnt drive as good as ferrari with the same break.

I obviously am not stupid enough to disagree with this because GT5P is NOT a sim in my opinion. However, while I love both games, I am 100% sure that the actual GT5 will destroy Forza 3.They just take the time to perfect everything at Polyphony (in the final game versions). I hope they do a shootout of those games, or this shootout is unjustified... essentially taking a big demo VS a full sim.

Forza just always had a more fun feeling and more feedback from the game to (in my case) gamepad. I love GT, but to me Forza has been the better game since it came out. Forza 3 vs. GT5... wish I could say but my PS3 is now gone. FM3 looks amazing though.

gt5 only really won 1 thing that graphics and that was said to be because forza2 had no in car view driving and thats what forza3 has now done. so forza2 wins overall which is about right but the real battle is between forza3 v gt5 full version that should be more fun. happy gaming guys. ;-)

Forza 2 and 3 hold the title of having the most advanced physics engine of any racing game to date, it seriously cannot be beat. Check out google and read some of the things it does when your driving, its crazy.

Showing tire calculations and spring rates etc does not equate to a good physics engine. Those numbers mean nothing unless they are backed up by a solid physics engine, which is not the case with Forza ;)

Forza 2 is over 2 years old, the prologue is supposed to show whats in store for the game which wasnt very impressive tbh, GT slowly but surely is going to go down the pan, we have worldwide professional car tuners, painters, drifters, Dragracers etc. thats how good forza is, you still only will have around 170 cars with damage HAHAHA, il be playing my full damage racing sim while you are playing your bumper car physics driving sim.

Wait till Forza 3. The car models are going to be twice the polys of GT5 car models, but I think only the wheels are noticeably superior. GT5 has a couple of straight lines on road surfaces (Just on wheels, seen in a Gamescom screenshot of the latest build), but FM3 has smooth lines.
I believe that both should be pretty much equal in terms of graphics by the time both are in their final builds... if GT5 ever gets released that is! :S
Even if it was late, they have more time to polish......

allow me to correct that statement:
there will be a grand total of 1,000 cars in GT5.
All of which will have damage and a cockpit camera view.
Only about 170+ cars will have "premium models" which will mean that damage will affect the car's interior as well.. So say if you grand slam you car doing 100+mph; expect to see damage action INSIDE the cockpit view as well.

Well you do realize that if you downshift from redlining in first gear and slam it into reverse in FM2 that you will fry your engine and the gearbox will be ruined. You can also bend your steering column, knock the wheels out of alignment, destroy your brakes independently of one another, and you can shred your tires.All of those damage points have hundreds of levels of severity as well. So if that's not damage I don't know what is.

What a load of bull. I'm a fan of all of those franchises and have played them all extensively. Need for Speed is all about sense of speed and has unparalleled sound design. Forza is in the middle of GT and NFS. Great sound design, simulation physics, DAMAGE, and stellar AI. GT has fantastic road noise and terrible car and tire sounds. There is also NO DAMAGE or AI to speak of and no consequences for crappy driving or cheating. GT has stellar graphics and car selection.

The reason why GT has no damage is because they want push graphics and physics as real as they can within the limitation of ps2. forza 2 released in 2007 is 3 three years later than GT4 and forza's fans still compare forza 2 with gt4.
and the damage in forza 2 is a joke, you crash your car in 190 miles per hour and the only damage you will find is some fake textured scratch. You guys call that real??

The damage to your car negatively effects speed and handling and is more than just a scratch. Do you call it real when you hit something going 190 MPH and NOTHING happens like GT? You obviously know nothing about GT or Forza. GT has very pretty graphics, but there is way more to a driving game than graphics.

Physics damage? Is there a formula for that? Like GT1+GT2 X damage = Bullshit? Are you referring tire wear? I played and beat GT1 and almost GT2 and there was no damage, but there was tire wear in some races. I hit several walls, other cars, and cheated every single time at the end of Trial Mountain and sustained ZERO damage and no time penalties for cheating. Yet I like both GT and Forza for what they are. You exclusively like GT and shun all other titles that aren't GT. You are the fanboy.

Obviously you didn't because if you make a mistake in GT you will crash. Forza is a joke, it's arcade oversteer which is extremely easy to control.
Also, you need to play with a wheel to make a proper assessment of both games. GT is significantly more difficult with a wheel than a controller..... I don't even get how people can play GT or Forza with a controller and not a wheel.
Reality is Forza is very arcadey with it's physics, and they have fooled you. Go check out my vids, I know my stuff.

I highly doubt you have both wheel setups. I don't own both setups, but I have a close friend with Forza and a wheel, and it is a joke. High speed oversteer is easy to save, which is not the case with GT, GT will snap on you at high speed if your not good.
I have lot's of real life experience with this, and Forza is garbage. I've driven some of the greatest tracks in the world, been sideways in Eau Rouge at 100+ in the rain, I know what I'm talking about..... what experience do you have?

Why don't you go take a look at my videos then. I've driven at Nurburgring (Forza did an awful job at FYI), Sebring, Spa etc etc. I own a 934.5 (800hp and about 2200lbs) which we race in a historic series in Europe. My proof is out in the open if your willing to look. I'm going to be at Silverstone at the end of the year also. So keep running your mouth about thing's you don't understand.

Actually this has yet to be officially announced by Polyphony. There have been multiple translations of the information that was posted, some think only 250 have damage, some say they all do.

To put it simpler, imagine that they it wasnt called gt5:p but by another name without affiliation with gran turismo. Then no one would be saying that the reviews are unfair. Continued:
Although the full game will have a lot more content to come that will make it a match for forza, the gt5p as a standalone game that is available now is simply inferior. the real representative reviews would be forza 3 and gt5.

I am a staunch supporter of gran turismo. I've played most of their games and thoroughly enjoy it. I've never played forza before. So I can understand how the gt fans feels about this review. However, they are doing reviews on both games that are out according to those criteria they used in the review. And I think based on those criteria, both games got a fair score. Remember, they are not comparing forza2 with gt5, but with gt5:p which is the best racing game for the ps3 out there to date.

Both are great games, people forget that GT5 isnt a complete game. Trying to get a game online on GT5 is a mission so it gets thumbs down for me because of that.

i hav both consoles i actually think forza 2 is better but it should hav cockpit view but i when foza 3 and gt5 come forza 3 will hav a far better custimisation to it than gt5 but gt5 will hav far more cars and tracks

If you think arms and hands is hardly realistic, then why include a wheel with no hands? you think that's more realistic? lol it just looks weird on-screen if the wheel has no arms/hands becuz it doesn't simulate reality.
As for cars and tracks, they only have 13 cars and most of their circuits (99% of them) are American, with 24 are ovals (boring!).
