I agree with most, it's his aircraft if he wanted to paint it pink and put a brushless motor on it then it'd still be his pride and joy to fly, he paid the money, those making digs about not true to the original aircraft... well you just clicked the link to watch the video.. nobody made you :p
I think its bad ass, listed to that prop sing. Besides this guy can power his plane any way he wants. Why not stick a pulse jet on it hey, ironic lol.
@ManuCath I agree 100%. If your going to own and build that plane, do it right. Putting a fucking turboprop into a fucking historic PISTON engine plane! You're an idiot!
@AvaX2000 The P-51 can correctly be equipped with the turbo prop, as the Piper Enforcer. Two of these were actually built, and test flown. The Enforcer did not have the radiator scoop.
Absolutely beautiful!! I had the pleasure of many rides in a Mark 9T and am a Spit lover! Beautiful mate!! Well done! I am a RC guy and have not seen turbo props before, what engine are you using? What fuel do you use??
@ManuCath I totally agree with this statement but considering the other options of engine this seems to sound more like the original with the supercharged rolls royce merlin engine. but maybe this is just me. but i do agree with the original being piston powered and no jet will be able to fill the very large boot of the world wild achievement that the piston engine has.
@ManuCath This is a toy plane. it is not real. it can be powered with anything.. Unless it is powered by a 1/4 scale Merlin exact replica then its a scandal no matter what.... This actually sounds closer to the full size than a single cylinder glow or petrol engine!
Sorry but realistically why would you spoil a great scale Aircraft but putting a turbine in it,
Turbo Prop engines available now should be put in Scale Turbine Aircraft , I have seen a Spit with a replica 12 cylinder engine that sounded fantastic, this while being true to modeler's experimentive nature detracts from the scalenes of the Aircraft ,
@gertnood Innovateive mate yes but it does detract form a splendid Aircraft , I gues I'm just jealous as I WANT one of those Turbo units for my Porter
really beautifully flown and a cracking performance out the spit, but that colour scheme???? Eeeeuuuuwww! Do appreciate that its more of a flying experiment but its a bit like seeing racing stripes on a Rolls Royce!!
Very nice plane sounds great and fast too. Look's very smooth. I like the colour scheme is that the blackpool spitfire colours. I heard they only ever made one with these colours.
I don't think that was its intended scheme. It looks like they couldn't wait to fly it before finishing it 100% so they flew it like that. I'm guessing later on, it got a nice paint job and scale markings, but I don't know.
@ferociousfrankie - I bet the visibility of its orientation was good in the evening sunset though lol. Since scale markings were designed as camouflage not to be seen easily, especially the pale blue belly variants.
@MrMoorkey My dad owned the racing Spitfire, Spitfire 80. She was raced in 1949 at the National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio. She is an FR MK XIV e, Griffon powered, with the 5 blade Rotol propeller. She had the low altitude clipped wing tips, and a bubble canopy
@tz138 No, I'm talking about RN201 (G-BSKP) / TD248 (G-OXVI), Blackpool Air Race colours, circa 1948/9. RN201 has a bubble canopy and full wings, whilst 248 has clipped wings, and a standard canopy. This looks like a hybrid of those colours. Spit 80 looks sweet though!
Well, I'm not sure about the colour either, but it really is beautifully flown.

The prop noise sounds like the real one does....
Placing a Load zenoah 62cc single is a load POS...IMHO....
This plane can be flown, and doesn't piss off all the sourounding homes like
those weed wacker engines do....
I don't think you know what your talking about....

You should be hanged by your gentleman veg for replacing the sound of a proper engine with that turbine.
Especially in a spitfire........ Tut tut.
himagain99 3 months ago
You should buy a Jet-Modell and place the turbine in this!
But PLEASE...NOT IN A SPITFIRE,!!!
(or like the other guy in a P-51...!)

@ferociousfrankie Y'a rien à faire, c'était juste un avis personnel.
Le must serait un spit avec un V12 4 temps et un échappement étudié pour se rapprocher au plus du bruit d'un vrai Spit.

Has a lovely sound to it once in the air. Almost has that merlin growl as it goes by.
Would I be right in thinking someone did actually make a fullsize turboprop powered spitfire for racing?
Next will be a cavalier mustang
foofydoo 2 years ago
Very nice. Really. Gentle slooow aerobacy typical for Spitfire. Ans airplane needs a lot of power for this and here is it.
And about sound... I think that this sound is better than any shrilling engine from chainsaw... :)
