  • This series is just awesome, and I think my parents would enjoy it too. Gotta find that dvd!

Also anyone here a d&d fan? I for one, think the Bard class should've been way more useful than they made it out to be in 3.0 and 3.5 edition.

  • Hilarious documentary! Bears! Farts! Sad that they keep talking over the guy singing the Song of Roland though.

  • This series combines history and farts very effectively.

  • terry jones, you are bloody awesome.

  • Another great episode in this series. This is the first documentary I've seen about minstrels.

  • Why are all these BBC episodes cut short?

  • Why would someone take the time to dislike something such as this? Someone cared enough and was so turned off they took the time to dislike it. I never understood those types of people. And now I'm a hypocrite for bitching about them, because it pissed ME off enough to write about it, as if anyone cares... Oh wow. I just blew my own mind.

  • A minstrel was a medieval European bard who performed songs whose lyrics told stories of distant places or of existing or imaginary historical events. Although minstrels created their own tales, often they would memorize and embellish the works of others. Frequently they were retained by royalty and high society.

  • As the courts became more sophisticated, minstrels were eventually replaced at court by the troubadours, and many became wandering minstrels, performing in the streets and became well-liked until the middle of the Renaissance, despite a decline beginning in the late 15th century. Minstrelsy fed into later traditions of traveling entertainers, which continued to be moderately strong into the early 20th century, and which has some continuity down to today's buskers or street musicians.

  • People who use the word "herstory" should first be made to learn greek, and then swiftly executed.

  • @PatDan Don't even bother to teach them Greek, and don't make the execution swift. Go for something more...well, medieval.

  • I agree.

  • Terry Jones is brilliant, I love his herstory programs.

  • ICE is goood.

    Hehe

  • i can deal with advertisments, they make the money for free videos. I just cant stand it when they sound rape my ear even when i have my volume dial at one-quarter.

  • 14:11 What instrument is that supposed to be?

  • @JesusRottingChrist I agree with you and I guess I took it differently than everyone else. When I read her post, I considered her to be a little slutty. There is a lot wrong with not only homosexual orgies by orgies in general. If you are gay or lesbian stick with one. if you are straight stick with ONE of them. If you have sex with more than one person at the same time, I consider you to be a whore. Plain old facts really. Nothing wrong with being gay but having gay or straight orgy is slutty

  • Totally not TV G.

  • Terry the Entertainer hath nyne-and-nynety plagues, nay be a damsel one.

  • "Suttle" Terry... very "suttle" 20:50 lol.

  • hahaha!!! yes :)

  • @StuPadazzo subtle

  • i think its totally awesome they put this one here for free. im so going to go buy this on dvd now... i think other companys sould totally take note and not block free trade of entertaiment. please forgive the spelling.

  • Great show, pity it can't run for long without bogging down badly. I can't tell if it's my ISP or YouTube messing up, but this is barely watchable. I'll probably just go buy the DVDs.

  • a leap, a whistle, and a fart. LOL.

  • I believe most medieval armies were followed by a supply column that consisted of their families, craftsmen, porters, women cooks, laundry maids and prostitutes .

  • @FireForce1488 How else could have the beginnings of the Medieval Accounting have come to AUDIT. There are relationships and various contracts, some solid and some Limited and served their purpose...

It was all good and the concerns for each on along the way were valid, and *That is the balance that needs to exist on the books and ledger notes. Statements to carefully deliniate those is a necessary part of *communication. Who would have known that the *DISCO-10 was already entering between.

  • So you are saying that if you had to go for a month without the opposite sex you would resort to homosexual orgies? Wow... you should probably just shut the hell up... lmao. Oh, and see a shrink about that little nymphomania problem you seem to have there. Couldn't go for a couple months without sex... what the hell is wrong with people today?

  • not with people just with some people.

  • What is wrong with homosexual orgies? And not wanting to go a month without sex isn't nymphomania (also ignoring the fact that nymphomania is the uncontrollable need for sex in women...); it's understandable, in fact, especially considering the circumstances.

That said, I doubt there were many orgies happening, but I'm sure many men did have sex with each other to relieve the extreme stress from battle.

  • I'm pretty sure I knew what nymphomania was when I said it. Maybe you didn't understand the context in which I used the word... As far as homosexuality in the Middle Ages goes, it was around, but prominent? - Doubtful... Think of how powerful The Church was at the time and how bitterly its doctrine opposed such activity.

  • No, I don't understand how nymphomania makes sense, considering we were talking about men who go to war.

I didn't mean homosexuality was prominent - just that I doubt it was as uncommon as people seem to think, especially during times of battle. Of course, there's no way we'd ever know for sure, but it seems unlikely that they wouldn't do something just because The Church told them it was sinful. The Church certainly was powerful during that period, but human nature was still more powerful.

  • Actually I was speaking directly to the person who's words I was replying to, and supposing from the name Megan that she was female, I thought it made perfect sense. You can no longer read what she said do to overwhelming negative reaction, but it was rather distasteful and suggested that she was a very lustful person. Surely that is no crime, but I do dispairage anyone who speaks in such a promiscuous way. I admit that you are right otherwise, surely there were homosexuals in those days as now.

  • thanks Terry

  • They had Medieval rap battles? wow, I wonder what they were about. Hot damsels and opium and packin heat with ur crossbow

  • lol we watch these in my social studies class and my teacher gets mad because i watch them ahead of time

  • these are good!!!

  • this whole series is fantastic!!! (sorry but 'bravely rode sir robin' comes to mind!-LOL)-if you dont know it its Monty pythons ;Holy Grail'-lol

  • "When danger reared it's ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled."

  • The Occitan rap is absolutely brilliant! Love it!

  • yeah! Needs to come influence some of the rap in the states.
