  • I watched this show and I think White people have a LOT to answer for....

You Devils put Black people in these Housing projects and DENY them Human Rights, jobs, health care, decent schools, and a good life.

You WANT Black people to DIE in the Projects because we are all just "nigger animals" to you people....right?

Whites have a LOT to answer for....Karma will get you Racists.

  • @PaulDougouba i have nothing to answer for ....ur a biget, get some education and stop haten

  • I did not go to college, I did not make good grades in high school, I did not grow up with money but I got a job stuck with it and now make 35k a year. Im now 30 years old. No its not alot I won't get rich doing what I do but I make it. If you want to make it in this world you can and it starts with a JOB!!!

  • you must likely had a nice closely knit family, you had a good teachers at school, you grew up with kids that generally wanted to do well, there was an incentive for you to get out and get a job... you want the better things in life... etc

  • Do you think that some of these people actually woke up one day and said "Gee, I wanna be a dope fein?" I work at a clinic and see these people everyday and its sad, Its not just the people from the projects on dope, Ive seen lawyers,a judge, a cook county officer, over all ive seen all kinda of suites that are or have been dope feins, So dont be judging like its mostly blacks,or projects or poor people; Unless you can walk in there shoes... You dont know nothing!

  • Nobody wants that but al it takes is some bad decisions and thats what can happen. When it happens who do you blame though the goverment or yourself? It is sad this is happening but really who's fault is it?

  • The Feds need to go through and pass out a billion joints to the homeless. They got enough pot to do it. Might as well get rid of it before it gets stolen by their own and put back on the streets for Profit and not for Medicine.

  • Hmmm... Lot of racism in this thread. Not surprising really, which is very sad but true.

  • these folks are sick, they would love to blame others rather than looking at themselves, as far as concerned with poverty no body born with silver spoon, you have to strive for your dreams.

its just plain bullshit , lack of education, and had no meaning of life. pathetic

  • yea no one was ever born whith a silver spoon you dont know shit

  • White people are responsible for all this mess. Black women can't find a good Black man with a education cause the prices are too hight on every thing.

Why you think Obama is gettin so radical? HE HAS TO! Rich White Devils are ruining the USA! He has to put them in restraint.

Black MEN need a LIVING WAGE. Not your slave minimmum wage jobs.

We want better health care, better schools, better housing, and access to a college education.

  • "Black men" need common sense.

"We want better health care, better schools, better housing, and access to a college education. "

    You already have all that.

  • Yes, all that is available in middle class, white neighborhoods. It seems like you have no idea what you're talking about. Get your head out your ass.

  • It is available to everyone , you obviously live in the middle of nowhere and have no clue of what is going on.

  • bullshit, its available PERIOD. no one is turned away from hospitals for their income level or race.

section 8 is available to all that apply for it.

college funds and government assistance and or vouchers are available to more black students then anyone else.

put forth a little effort and you would be surprised what is available to you.

  • that is the most retarded thing i have ever heard.

    1. I went to school here in Chicago with plenty of black students, some paid there way through some made in on a college fund.

2.Obama isnt putting anyone in restraint. he doesnt use his race as a crutch.

    3. Health care, better schools, housing etc... isnt just a black problem.... its an American problem.

  • there is no one holding Black people back but black people. if you want to do something with your life, DO IT. dont wait for a hand out.

Obama didnt become president with a handout. he worked for it.

stop playing the victim. its 2010 time to stand on your own 2 feet.

  • WOW. Im a young black professional who lives in Chicago.... and agree with this jdmdrift 100%. espically this statement.

  • Im glad you agree, I dont mean to offend when i say this, i just know that EVERYONE, black or not is capable to make it with hard work.

  • Are you going to give them a job? Then who is?

  • what i am talking about was not referring to the homeless. i was responding to someone elses comment blaming it on race.

  • Proleterians Unite

Liiving wages is key to survival .

  • People are only homeless cuz the alway it.

  • I don't want to support those people with my tax money.

developed "seizures" from crack use! Huh!nice.

  • Let me guess..most of those poverty stricken people are black.

  • that really doesn't have anything to do with it. I see plenty of white homeless here in Chicago everyday.

  • 53rd in Justine!!!!

  • I just met someone from Chicago last night, ps3man75.I think I saw his house.

  • Stop putting people in prison and start putting them in rehab facilities or they won't change. Prison will just make you crazier.

  • @sparcox3

I'm not sure addictions are a choice. That statement's clearly from someone who has never had a real addiction. Surely the first time to use a drug or alcohol was, but lets not pretend like WE"RE error-less or that we don't have some pain we want to numb sometimes. You're right some people choose a vagabond life but we still need to help and have compassion for those people who are just plain beat-up, broke or handicapped, underaged, victims of abuse or sex trafficking, sick or down.

  • Thats Obama's America! The South Side of Chicago. It just goes to show you just how little he accomplished, not only a community organizer, but also as a state and federal legislater. Its funny that the largest homeless shelter in Chicago is privatly funded. Meanwhile Rezko's publicly funded projects were ignored as they went to crap. Why? Because Obama turned a blind eye to corruption as Rezko was contributing campaign funds to him for the gurantee of future contracts. And now he is President?

  • do u have a job paul?

  • White people....face it. OUR man is in the White House now.

We demand better schools, better hosing, better healthcare, access to better jobs (and no min wage slave jobs)

You WILL be giving to us what is our due. Obama WILL give health care to our people and more jobs.

    You owe US!

  • @PaulDougouba dumb nigger is dumb. you will get nothing.

  • Why the fuck would you get any help? Fucking racist. People like you probably wonder why people still use the word "nigger"

  • Your the racist calling People Nigger.

You little Pussy....acting all that and brave hiding behind a computer.

You racist coward...you would NEVER have the guts to talk to a Black person to their face like this....little pussy in your mommas basement on the computer.

  • dude, im FROM Chicago, and if i saw you on the street talking shit like this, bet i would step to you. i dpnt call anyone nigger but if you stepped to me talkiing how you are owed something id knock you the fuck out.

  • Kiss my ass you white devil!!

Go burn your crosses and STFU!!!!

  • im not even white you dumb fuck, i guess you are correct. you NEED an education.

  • LOL. Your dumb ass needs an education.

You are supposed to Capitalize at the beginning of sentences you DIP SHIT! Also the personal pronoun "I" gets capitalized too you HUD punk ass bitch.

Take that crack pipe out of your mouth you junkie. You are probably one of these idiots on drugs in this show. LOL!

  • seriously? your gonna try to pull the grammar card on youtube? that's the white flag right there, always the last resort when you know you're wrong and have no real comeback.

rather then an intellectual reply you try to change the subject. ... pathetic.

  • Pathetic. You are an Illiterate! LOL

    You don't have Jack bitch!

  • @PaulDougouba

Thomas Jefferson: To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association. The guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.

  • @PaulDougouba

You are a moocher. You disreguard the principles of liberty that this nation was founded on in the name of taking liberty from one class of citizens and giving nonexistant liberty to another. You want to use the hard work of others to prop up the failures of yourself. YOU THINK WE OWE IT TO YOU? The only thing your owed is life liberty and the persuit of happyness. Nothing more and nothing less. Its no wonder the top 10 impoverished cities are all ran by Democrats like your man!

  • You Racist Devil.

You want to put Black Folk down and into Ghettos.

Go burn your cross and read Main Kampf you racist animal

  • Excellent Reply! Instead of arguing on an intellectual, idealogical, & factual bascis, you simply dismiss the facts and call your opponet a racist. If my advocasy of equal liberty & equal rights no matter what color you are is racist then I guess you can count me guilty. & if im guilty of such views how does your advocasy of redistributive wealth based upon race register? Maybey you should read the Constitution or perhaps the words of our founders. They are a direct contradiction to Obama.

  • "our founders?" Those founders were land thieves, murderers, racist pigs, nothing else.

  • Maybe you want to go get a job for a change as well...

  • no one owes you shit, YOU SIR are the racist.

"your man" is infact my man as well.

  • Myself and my son were homeless for almost a year in 2 different regions of the country. I learned much about the real America and the real world from those months out there. I also learned that there are many homeless folks out there who just can seem to get a lift up no matter how smart they are or how good of a person they are. It is very sad. I found more genuine folks and genuine compassion out there in "the homeless world" than I did in "the housed world".

  • People are taught wrong. I did three years in jail. I am now a Pre Med student at NIU. GOD is all we need.

  • Being free of codependency is "all we need". Once one frees himself/herself of addictions and "crutches" they can truly be free to grow and become better human's. Religion is an addiction and a crutch and isn't any different from any other addiction or crutch. A truly self aware person is free from such road blocking things and they can grow mostly unimpeded.

  • @nickonoise

You sound so strong and able. I've met a lot of people who think like you do and then when their world collapses unfairly around them no matter how "free" and unimpeded they are - they get bitter and more angry at life. Eventually sucking the life out of anyone else who has hope. Just like you try to tear down that persons hope and story instead of rejoicing at their success and gratitude. We're human, we all hurt, all fail & all need a crutch sometimes. The wise are humble.

  • it boils down to pride and ego.

  • this is soo interesting. i'm thinking about majoring in urban studies now.

  • Good choice for an educational excursion that could bring you to a point in your life where you can change lives and or even change the world for the better. Bets of luck to ya. :-)

  • just like my city boston. more like every major city in the usa. system fail.

  • lol

  • I am a female who has been where these individuals are. I am from Chicago. I have been homeless, addicted to crack, I was in the gang, a "thug"! I have served 6 years in prison, both for attemped murder. I got released in March 2009. I am now a university student, studying criminal justice, my major will be sociology. I see too may professors, social workers who only have text book theory of these conditions. My goal is to be an advocate for the poor. Education is my way. I've been there!

  • thats awesome

  • simple fact of the matter is that like everything else on this planet, man has brought this scenario to the fore due to his GREED. 5% of the people in the world control 80% of the wealth.

what in Gods name does a person want with another 10 million on top of his 1st 10 million.....GREED PURE & SIMPLE....

  • I completely agree. I was doing a little research and find that those 5% have enough money to end world poverty and hunger while they still have plenty of money for themselves.

It doesn't make sense how disgusting human nature can be when it comes to greed.

  • Yes it does. Look at it from this angle bro. Mankind by his human animalistic nature is evil pure and simple. He is only out for his own self. To hell with the poor, weak, and innocent they must serve. It is damn near evil to have the means to end hunger, poverty, and violence and not do it. I don't know how religious you are but Yahweh (God) said that mankind's heart is CONTINUALLY EVIL.

  • No arguments here. I need to look at things from all angles and learn not to base solutions off of theory (thinking we all want the same).

    I'm a girl btw, but it's okay....

    Take Care, God Bless!

  • It is what it is, the earth is unbalanced in every aspect...Don't be mad at the greedy people its not there faults they were brought up like this..Its in there gene pool..Its like being mad at someone who is mentally challenged. The best thing to do is to find a solution instead on playing the blame game and complaining. People are people we don't choose our ethnicity.

  • White people have a LOT to answer for by doing this to us.

You put us in hellhole housing projects. Give us no jobs....put crack and herion into our hoods...and wonder why Black Folk are so poor?

YOU did this to us. First you enslaved, raped, and whipped us...now you are killing us with Drugs and housing us in evil ghetto slums.

You are going to have to answer for this you devils.

  • its always funny when a negroid tries to sound intelligent or articulate, especially when you forget that negroids were not the only race to endure slavery. asians were brought over to help tunnel out parts of the great canadian railway but i dont hear them complaining or crying. they elevated themselves quietly and left negroids in their dust.

thats an obvious easy example as there are numerous other ethnic groups that endured slavery at times throughout history.

  • im black and you just sound liek an ignorant nigga still thinking like a slave. our black leaders have prodided us with tools to be successful. we have opportunities we didnt back then like going to college and rising in the business world while u sist back and make excuses for yourself. being black isnt a burden

  • @karijohnston102

    ummm..

    Don't live in the projects.

    Don't smoke crack.

    Get a job.

    You do this to yourself.

  • @derekw1572

So what if: you're born in the projects - attend the worst educating schools in America - abused or neglected by your parents with no example set of love, adulthood, work or responsibility. Plus you're a minority, maybe your parents don't speak English and you will never qualify for a loan without a cosigner. The world sees you as sad but worthless and no one will hire you. Especially in a recession. Nowhere to tuen. Then you come along and tell them "You do this to yourself".

  • Sad that human beings have to live like this.

  • It's even sadder that the really don't need to be.

  • If the black panthers were still around, I gurantee 90% of inner city problems wouldnt exist. If the police cant police a community, the community needs to themselves.

  • Whenever a government (or its parts) fails to GUARANTEE LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT of HAPPINESS needs to be REFORMED(which we are to far removed to do) or ABOLISHED. The FOUNDING FATHERS SAID THAT.

  • At one point a man mentions that blacks are set up to fail in the current system (then we pan to the shot of the kids playing basketball during school time). This seems to be the issue the doc was hinting at the entire time, yet not fully dedicating itself to it. I would've like to have seen more facts to support/refute the argument. Otherwise, it's a glimpse at the consequences of poverty/drug addictions without a sincere analysis of the path.

  • "poor education is a result is living in an impoverished area" hollytoo i think you need to work on your grammar. Im a sociology major who is researching urban sociology at UW Eau Claire. It is not about the parents, the biggest reasons that cause poverty is that public housing backfired and only created these "ghettos" and the lack of healthcare. If the government would step in and provide us with better health care and cleaned up our inner cities to make them more appleaing for companies

  • My comment was directed at "1muslim4allmuslims". Perhaps you would like for people to stereotype you, without all of the facts pertaining to your situation. Sometimes things just happen, other times choices are made, and sometimes you have to take responsibility for yourself and stop blaming others. This was a very good production video that addresses a serious issue that most of us would rather ignore. This goes on around the world for millions of people. It is a very sad situation.

  • Frank Sebesta Hubbard High Sschool

  • James Gramlich is Paul Wall's lost twin...

  • JadeBowman02 - kudos to you for wanting more and striving towards it. There are very few people that are fortunate to have opportunities, particularly in a society where racism is real.

Poverty is not a choice, addictions are; however, when you have limited opportunities based on lack of privilege, it is easy to fall into that.

  • I don't see anything "funny" about this video. You have a very distorted, sick and twisted sence of humor. Don't be so judgmental, this could be you one day. There are over 100,000 homeless people in Chicago. They are still humans with a family..somewhere. The next time you look down your nose at them, take a good look at yourself first. No one is perfect, but I'm sure that you still want respect and to be treated nice. Sorry you are so racist, narrow-minded, self-centered & filled with hate.

  • I am a black woman who now lives in Chicago (Note:I moved here with NOTHING) on the Southside and I see all of these things but I have made the conscious decision not to partake in this behavior. Im not saying that Im better then someone who is addicted to crack, all that I am saying is that we all make choices and we all have to take responsibility for those choices. You say that you deserve better but I dont see you doing better. Get off you ass- and make some moves- HELLLOOOOOO

  • I liked the documentary in parts..

There was and still is class/caste based discrimination in India..

When I go back I intend to do something about it.

  • As a chicago resident poverty is linked to poor education.

  • circular argument - poor education is a result is living in an impoverished area

  • Poor parenting is the root of all poverty in the industrial world, I can't speak for poor countries because I didn't grow up poor but I grew up without love.

  • likewise

  • years ago I lived in Canada and I understood why there are so many people living like this.

welfare checks. people become slaves of welfare and do nothing to make something out of their lives.

In chile there is lot of poverty too but poors dont even have a welfare check or shelter.

what a hell do these chicago and all american poors do with their welfare checks?

  • if yer white here in chicago we cant get anything u have 2 b black my brother and dad r homeless

  • let`s move to Canada!

  • wooooooow prettyprecious20 you may be the most provincial, rude, racist person ever...

  • I say this it can happen to any body ,we all dont know what faith has for us in this world.

  • na man wont happen to me. straight up....

  • to anyone who thinks capitalism is a good idea..

    this is what capitalism produces..

  • capitalism rules... :)

  • right, because the former soviet union and present day china are just living it up! you cant blame capitalism for this. its drug dealers that dont give a fuck who they are selling to, its the people on the drugs that dont care about anything but getting the next fix. its about the missions that hide a religious agenda behind there generosity. all contributing factors.

  • America is disgusting.

  • true words

  • its OK. Europe is better though

  • "Fuck Capitalism!"

  • this way of talking to each other is really not nice. But about the movie, I think it is not that good .

  • Why don't they gather all these homeless, jobless people, and pay THEM to do the repairs on those properties.Get the materials and let them do the labor.Pay them,so they can afford at least some form of shelter while they do the work.Just an opinion but sounds like a solution.

  • because its not a lack of money, its what they do with that money. you can pay them for a days work but that just affords them more crack. that is not a solution.

  • capitalism is destroying America and the world.

  • Fuck off. Capitalism is the answer not the problem. Take your Hyundai driving ass over to Cuba and see how you like your life.

  • And how is it the answer? Take your head out of Rush Limbaugh's ass.

  • Rush Limbaugh is a cretin. Unfortunately people like yourself who make drive by remarks like "Fuck Capitalism!" don't have any solution to offer outside of vague endorsements of socialism. All systems are flawed you moron, but capitalism is a hell of a lot better than socialism/communism. Of course, you have probably never travelled anywhere so how would you know...

  • you didn't even answer the question, cunt.

  • Allowing people to determine their own destiny is always a better system than depending on gov''t to make decisions for them. Capitalism with all of it's flaws is still superior to any other type of economic system. I'm all for certain social programs, and compassion, but people should ultimately be able to make their own decisions. You are typical. You condemn a flawed, but succesful system without offering any sort of solution. That is immature, and stupid.

  • Capitalism with some socialist policies, i.e free health care and education, is the best policy.

  • so working hard and earning money is your ideal of destroying the world? go to china or russia you commy.

  • You can work hard in a socialist democracy, you dumbfuck. You've been brainwashed into accepting the status quo.

  • but what you are not getting is these people do not want to work hard. do you think with a change in economic systems would make these people stop doing drugs and want to work? no you would just have to pull the weight for them.

    not a solution.

  • Homeless is in every state and something really need to be done....

  • lol wtf is your problem saiyan your probably a rich bitch thats had everything handed to them

  • Nah I'm far from rich. I'm just tired of watching these fucking drug addicts beging for money, and watching my parents struggle to keep food on my plate as a child. Not my fault they got addicted to the substance. My parents could have gotten addicted, but they didn't that's why they have a house, and were not living in the street like these people. Oh and btw, I live on 1651 w 17th st, Chicago, IL. Look that up on google and see if that is a rich neighborhood.

  • You are a bum yourself Saiyan. You live with your parents lol.

  • well y do u think they turned to drugs

i agree some of them are "voluntary" bums, but most of them have no visible escape from their lives, and the only escape which they can see is drugs

i guaranty you would do the same if you were in their shoes

think about what you say b4 u say it

  • No I wouldn't. I hate people like that so I would never turn to drugs. No matter how fucked up your life is you can always turn it around. Some are just too hopped on cracked to do something about it,

  • bullshit, i was a train hopper for about 2 years, voluntary but i still met some of the most down trodden people in America. this is where the lack of education and lack of will to help ones self comes into play. most of these drug addicts aren't even thinking about tomorrow, they are only thinking where the money for the next fix is coming from. drugs are not an escape, its a cell. and i can guarantee you i would NOT do the same.

  • You thoughtless asshole. You have obviously lived a pretty sheltered existence. Just hope to God that you never walk in those shoes. It can happen to ANYONE. Moron.

  • this is one result of govt corruption, preying on the weak and giving drugs priortiy over people

  • ...most of these homeless ppl r black and male...i c a pattern here

  • As a lifelong Chicagoan I can tell you that I find very little exaggeration with anything in this documentary, including the Pacific Garden Mission(which happens to be located in the center of one of the fastest growing and hottest real estate zip codes in America), the general attitude towards ppl labeled as homeless, as well as the phenomenon of displaced drug dealers setting up shop in at-risk neighborhoods and dragging them down.

We all need help sometimes. Find compassion for everyone.

  • If you think Obama is concerned about the black community...think again! welcome to the real world...its dog eat dog!

  • Exactly!!! Wasn't he in power in Chicago? at one point? He does not care.

  • Programs like this show how easy it is to get stuck in a vicious circle of drugs, crime and poverty. It makes me mad when people such as cdlmn63 spout their poisonous crap bout things they know nothing about. Unless you have been in the situation you cannot judge or condemn those who are. It is easy to make assumptions and stereotype when it doesnt affect you personally. These assumptions are often far from the reality. Sadly there will always be people who judge and condemn 'east targets'.

  • I really like the message of this film, that poverty/drugs do effect everyone and everything from all races and classes. In addition that the war on drug users is a waste of our taxes by using jails to house drugs abusers. Really well done

  • Very curious that Obama did not take the opportunity to do something while in Chicago, (maybe because he did not care) but to attend a $15,200-a-person dinner at the Lincoln Park home, his campaign fundraiser Penny Pritzker, where he took a shot at the media for what he deemed its "lack of sustained focus on the facts" (what a joker)

which he said "makes it very difficult" for him. What a clown. Hey, he cannot fix Chicago but he will fix USA.

  • stupid people ,blame blame blame, crack wife military, jobs ,move the fuck away from this godforsaken life, beggers etc. get a life use the social system to get out of the hole you dig for your self, what does this guy with the no leg and arm do with his check every month ??? smoke it up you bet!!! hes a known smoker, well was!! and 15 years for section 8 bull 2,3 years you need to do your home work on the stats these people are rejects of the help they are offered say the real side of this!!!!

  • 40 fucking percent?! Are you SERIOUS?!

  • and these ads by google are really starting to get on my nerves..this is how it starts.soon enough ads are gonna be all over the place and this site goes down the tubes.

  • i hate the fact that they didnt give us an update on the various characters in the film.

. are they dead, alive? what?

  • whtat's up people, is it just me or is this white dude or what have you that's doing the interview, actually about to laugh when he mentions ,that a ten year old boy say he is trying to get ten dollars for heroin.the time is around 27:50 to about 28:05 on the video pay attention, action speaks louder then words. he is so tickled by what he is seeing in poverty more so then having a deep sincere feeling about the issue at hand. i could be wrong but take a look.

  • Yes, because I'm so sure he actually considers this a comedy, and the rest of us aren't getting the joke. Just because someone is smiling about something doesn't mean they find it funny. How is one supposed to react when a 10 year old boy tells you he's trying to score a few bucks for some heroin and there's not shit you can do about it? I don't think that's a fair judgment call at all.

  • I lived in Chicago for two years, and the only motive/agenda I can find behind this film is a cold, hard, honest glimpse into the stark reality of this epidemic.

  • I wish i could just heal them all....and drive them demons out.

  • sorry warbrain 777 for the thumb down i was meaning to click thumbs up sorry about that .i feel the same way you do. you get 100 thumbs up my friend

  • All this talking about the problem. We all know the problem, we've been talkin bout it for decades. How bout some solutions. Why don't they talk on that subject.

--Because they don't care to help those in need. Sick world. Come to an end soon PLEASE!!!

  • great m8
