Lucifer and satan are not the same thing. Lucifer means light-bearer, he's referring to the "morning star" from Isaiah 14:12 . The books Dante's inferno, Paradise Lost, are the ones who used the names satan and lucifer interchangeably, not any old canonically translated version of the bible. In the old testament they refer to the planet Venus as "The mourning star", this was translated as "Lucifer" in the Vulgate meaning "light bearer".

Satan is called many things in the bible: Serpent, adversary, the enemy, opposer, accuser, tempter, Belial, great dragon... but NEVER as Lucifer in the ORIGINAL TEXT.
