@arnold4life476 .... yea there really isnt.... maybe the 696 monster but I wouldnt do it if I were you. The likeliness that you will do something to the bike in the first 6 months - 1 year of riding are pretty good and Italian is not the way to go for cheap replacements. Start off on a 2008 250 ninja or find a cheap 600 if your feeling ballsy. But starting on a duc is a great way to lose your cash and like any bike, maybe your life.

@arnold4life476 I mean its a lot of power if your new to riding, but its manageable. Its going to require a lot of concentration and maturity and then even at that its still going to be a risk. If you get lax for just one instance and go over a pot hole you didn't think was that big, you could role on the gas and end up crashing, etc.

So to try and put it into few words as possible. Yes you could do it, just be mature about it and NEVER skimp on anything that has to do with your safety, EVER.

@arnold4life476 I am a yamaha/duc fan. If you are sure about starting on a 600 I would recommend a Yamaha YZF-R6. I am more partial to the 06's and later. But any of the big 3 (kawi, Yamaha, Suzuki) will run well and be relatively cheap to maintain compared to any Italian machine. Its more a matter of preference, you might like the riding position of one compared to another, or maybe its just the looks. The big 3 have been competing for a long time and they are pretty much on the same level.

@Cookies205 I started on a 696. Has been almost 2 years now with no incident. I will say this, there have been a handful of times when I should have died/wrecked and for some reason I managed to make it out unscathed. Example: hitting gravel in the apex of a turn, going into a full tank slapper, and literally doing a handstand on the bike from the violent tail whipping. Somehow managed to ride it out though.. That shit will put things in perspective.

Hi, i am thinking about buying one next summer and i would have one question. I am not that tall, about 1,71 but i was sitting on the 1098 already and had no problems to put my feet down. But i cannot remeber if it was a problem to reach the handle bar comfortable. Dont ge me wrong, but you seem to be not that tall too and it would help me alot if you could give me an answer on this. Just tell me if is comfortable with the handle? thanks in advance and sry for the bit weird question.

I understand Arai helmets has a huge name under their belt, but Nexx helmets are so much higher quality, with better customer service. Also better safety ratings. The SNELL ratings are not present yet, but are about to be obtained. The shell is made of carbon fiber, kevlar, and fiberglass. They are a huge brand where they were born, in Europe. X1R1 model is the one you want to check out. Many more designs to come.

@risk822 the gas mileage, I got about 80 mi before the light comes on but it's a 1198 cc race bike...it also judders a lot at low speed mainly because of the high torque IMO...beside that, it's an awesome machine.....

@Duct1198 most of the riders I know have the same kits...I got pulled over once but the officer didn't say anything about the plate..just gave me a ticket because didn't have the rear reflectors...as long as they can see it, I think it's fine....:-)

yes, it is a double bubble windscreen made by ZeroGravity. The 1198S has Ohlins forks, Ohlins rear suspension, Ohlins steering damper and .Ducati Traction Control...the base 1198 doesn't have any of those stuffs..if you're a track rider then the1198S is the best IMO

the Ducati 1198 is more like a track bike than a street bike compared to my 2006 R1..IMO...it does jerk around at low speed as if the bike wants to go faster...on the track, it's a whole new beast.........
