  • Is Brá liom é ar an Damhsa Sean Nós :) an ceann is fearr!

  • thats true REELKATE seamus devane from carna went around the world in the eightes with comhaltas because of hos sean nos dancing

  • yer man there at 2:36 looks feckin thrilled, doesn't he?

  • It looks like Appalachian clogging. Which I guess would make sense since most of the settlers of Appalachia were Scotch-Irish...

  • I stumbled ( and if I tried this I probably would) on this by chance. Very enjoyable. Thanks.

  • Just because the term "sean nos dancing" wasn't applied to this style of dance until the '70s, that doesn't mean that the style of dancing didn't exist before then. What we call sean nos dance has been danced in Connemara for ages. There are other similar, old styles of dance from around the country that pre-date competition-style step dancing as we know it today. Irish dancing that pre-dates competition-style dance migrated to North America and is the foundation of clogging and tap dancing.

  • The sean nós dancing we see now is a style that came from Conamara, and wasnt danced this way all over the country. There were local variations of dance that were more free style than the usual steps in different places but not as freestyle as what we see now.

  • Thats the I dance way before I knew I had irish in my family, or even knew that the irish danced this way.

  • As a set dance teacher i am surprised that you don't know more about the history of irish dance. The term Sean nos dance is a relatively new phrase it was first popularised in the 1970's to distinguish between the dancing master style of the like of Joe Donovan and the more animated and relaxed style of Seamus! There is no link between sean nos dancing and sean nos singing! There has been Irish dancing in irish houses for over a hundred years but this style of dance began with Seamus

  • @seannosdance2009 I was under the impression of two things. 1) Sean nos means "old style" as Gaeilge. Which brings me to 2) Riverdance was adapted from the older sean nos style of Irish dance, which has been practiced for centuries, much like its counterpart in the musical world. Of course, I may be wrong, because I'm just a dumb American. Thank you for correcting me.

  • Sean Nos dance is not older than step dancing at all! Anyone who has done research on the matter would know this! Step dance is over a hundred years old whereas Sean nos dance in the style we see here was only formulated in the 1970's by Seamus Devaney! Sean nos dance came out of step dancing not the other way around and there is a massive amount of evidence to prove this!

  • Are you Crazy, Sean nos was out way before that, i have clips of sean nos dancers before 1970. they were dancing sean nos to lilting or didle music as it was called that time as people found it hard to get instruments in by gone times. I will give Seamus his due, he is an amazing dancer and a great promoter of sean nos as are his sons but it wasn't formulated there.

  • Sean Nos is the best, Brian is one of the most greatest dancers x

  • @galwaycityraverz im confused isnt cunningham a scottish name? Is he mixed heritage?

  • How dare people compare sean nós to riverdance! Riverdance can't hold a candle to this...

  • o_O meh...

  • unreal......

  • Brian Great dancing . Go hiontach ar fad . It was nice meeting ya in Millwackee fest While back . Keep up the good work . Beannacht dia lat Senhor muy bien slan ---pat

  • Excellent! I've done Irish step dancing for years and honestly I'm rather tired of the rigid form and I'd love to give sean nos a go. So hard to find people who dance the style in the Philadelphia area (even harder to find people who understand that sean nos existed far before "traditional Irish step dancing," as evidenced by many of these comments). I need pointers! The ignorance of dancers in the "traditional Irish step dancing" style astounds me. Excellent button accordion player too.

  • Hey if you are on Facebook look up Maldon Meehan. She is a Sean Nos dance instructor in the US and travels around teaching workshops. She is a great instructor. She also has a video out if you can't get her into you area for a workshop.
