  • talk about making a batch of poison, your set up can make fuel, not the stuff you sit and sip

  • Terrible vid

  • the sound track mix makes me wanna kill little bunnys.

  • for one your supposed to throw away the first little bit to reduce the amount of wood alcohol in it, that is what ruins ur eyes. then re distill it.

  • Also, you should'nt drink the first 5-6oz produced as it has the methanol thing in it. The next parts you get are 100% drinkable .

  • dat sum smooth shyt right there I tell ya! Intersting video. Next time use it to make some really good absinthe!

  • dat sum smooth shyt right there I tell ya! Intersting video

  • george lopez nuff said

  • i woud like to ask how is that, when both water and alcohol boiling how only alcohol vapor go and the water vapor gets back? do you should make long tube or something? if yes how long it must be ? thank you

  • actually distillation process was discovered by islamic empire in dark ages but still good video

  • There is nothing about methanol in the video. people who have know idea will try this at home(even though you have a warning in your video) and posibly go blind or die because they don't discard the metanol. Other than that it's fantastic. Good work mate.

  • I think the objective in making modern day moonshine is to add THC or psychoactive compounds to the mixture to stop feelings of nausea and give a euphoric Absinthe feeling.

Hence my goal at the current moment is to make such a liquor using 19th century absinthe recipes and early 20th century moonshine recipes.

  • Nice shot glass lol

  • what is the imput output ratio for this say 500 l how much would you get backif it is an even 100%

  • @Morderesh

    10% of the mash

  • Fill condenser with ice/turn on water supply for cooling the vapours. Heat mash at 172-195 degrees ferenheit. As vapours travels through the tubing and is cooled down from the ice, it will turn back into a liquid state. Have a jar at the end of the copper tubing catching the alcohol that drips out. Throw out the first and last oz. of alcohol.

  • Distilling Directions:

Once virgorous foaming has stopped in carboy, the mash is ready to distill. Pour liquid of the mash into pot still, leaving the sediment behind. Seal all cracks/areas where vapours could escape on boiler with flour and water mixture.

  • Directions for Mash:

Pour corn meal and sugar into carboy. Add 1 gallon of warm water. Mix together vigorously. Add yeast, mix a bit more. Add remaining 1 ½ gal. Water. Mix a a bit more. Place Airlock and Bung on carboy, and let ferment for 5-6 days.

  • Hi, I'm about to build my pot still, and i just wanna make sure i have everything right before i start. Does anyone know if this recipe/method for distilling it will work. If you have experience in this, let me know if you see anything wrong in the process, or have any tips. Thanks!

    Moonshine Recipe Ingredients:

    -2 ½ lbs. Corn Meal

    -4 lbs. Sugar

    -2 ½ gal. Warm Water

    -Approx. 1 Tbsp. Turbo Yeast

  • lol funny and educational it dont get no better lol.

  • very helpfull

  • You need to Ude one of YouTubes Approved songs to fill in the Audio But other than that I'll Give ya 5*'s For Havind A Rebal flag, WiveBeader, & a Sinder-Block all in 1 room at the same time.

Oh ya & for trickn your brother in to Drinkn it, My brother has Thrown up DambNear 100 times because of me.

  • Please, if this hobby is abused then the law will be strengthened. The people who enjoy making and distilling there own likker (Safely), done so after a lot of research. Reading, Drawing, Asking questions, before anything was even put together.

Do your homework, don't spoil it for others and above all, Be SAFE.....

  • Foreshots - Methanol, Acetone, and other nasties. Take off 50 - 100ml.

Heads - Ethanol and other congeners that boil from 63 deg to equilibrium at 78.5 deg C. 200ml - 300ml this is achived by smell, taste and temp.

Hearts - Pure Ethanol brought off at 78.5 deg C. This is between 180 to 190 proof, pure clear alcohol if taken slowly and equilibrium is maintained in the still.

Tails - Taken once the temperature shoots through the roof. Again Taste, Smell and Temp.

  • There will be very little methanol, never enough to kill you (maybe you'll go blind for 10 mins if you drink a bottle of pure foreshot) but the foreshot contain fusel oils, some cyanide (if it's made from fruit). the only way this can kill you is suicide to escape the horrible hangover the following day. that's why you remove the foreshot.

people went blind in the old times because the moonshiners made their stills with car radiators that were soldered together with lead.

  • the marble idea is good. but still needs a water condenser coil. be aware of plastic material & Genetically modified corns. it will wreck your health & your future childs. so as drinking alcohol excessibly....

  • they shouldn't have used a water hose the alcohol eats at the plastic and rubber and that is probly what made him puke.

  • this moonshine gives me a temporary +2 strength boost

  • no dumping the methanol?

  • did you only distill once? and not water it down?!?! thats dangerous lol..

  • straight into the bottle. nice

  • There is some methanol in it. But u can avoid it by seperating the first bit of liquid coming out of your distiller. "first bit" means the sum of your mash * 0.0025.

  • no methanol is created here dumbasses, the reason people go blind is because stupid ass hillbillies in the 50s used lead in their stills and added methanol for reasons unknown to me, but nowhere in this chemical reaction is methanol involved, it's just sweet, sweet ethanol

  • It all depends on how the wash was created. if it's just sugar, potatoes, and yeast, no methanol is created. If you get into grain. Very little methanol is created. If you start getting into fruits, alot of methanol is created. If you ever use fruits, make sure not to put seeds, or cores or peels in it. That creates the most methanol.

  • How sure of this are you? I have heard from many people you should pour out the first 60ml that comes out of your pot still and you need to really watch your temp.

  • I am 100% positive. But like I said, it depends on how your wash was created. If you are using any type of fruits, then you have to get rid of your foreshots. But I make a wasy with Sugar, potatoes, and yeast. You do not need to get rid of it. Methanol is also called wood alcohol, which is made from things such as seeds, peels, and certain citric acids. pouring out your foreshots is a very good practice though, so you get used to doing it. But like I said, depends on what you make it with.

  • What do you use to make your wash? I'll tell you if you need to get rid of your foreshots or not. I dont know celcius degrees, but I know that 178*F is the perfect temp. But do not go above 200*F, because then your water starts boiling. I usually let it boil between 180 and 190 F

  • Well for the still I just use water, sugar and yeast.I dont even use potatos.Using just these three it comes out pretty strong. So you use potatos... How do you do this, do you boil them first?

  • Yeah, you are safe. You dont need to get rid of your foreshots, Another thing I do though, is when I'm through distilling, I mix all my hooch together so it's all the same proof. Using potatoes, I take about 3 potatoes, and boil them up, and make mashed potatoes. Then add it into your fermenter along with your sugar and water, also, I add a can of tomatoe paste(make sure it's paste) and that is just added nutrients.

  • You skin the potatos first before you boil them?

  • I skin them. But I you really dont have to.

  • methanol is ALWAYS a by-product , aswell as more yeast, ethanol and carbon dioxide as ell as a few other nasties called fusel oils, but is in levels depending on the mash's content

  • ur so stupid. Methanol is not created in the same way as ethanol. Before entering a stupid comment read and learn u pricks.

  • the frist 50ml is the forshots that is like drinking metho that stuff can kill !!! did you study befor you started making or not.

  • you fuck heads you do not drink forshots the frist 500ml !!!!!

  • why?

  • it's bad for you. you can go blind or even die from the stuff, that's why you ALWAYS through it out. hope I helped :D

  • Most do not realize that the treatment for the blindness and illness caused by methanol is dilution with ethenol.

If you drink the fourshots drink a lot more ethanol you will get a headache but you will live.

  • Run off the heads or you'll go blind haha

  • what do you mean run off the heads??

  • the heads is the first bit that comes out of the still

  • how do you get the marbles to stay in???

  • Copyright law is complete bullshit! The RIAA is a group of greedy corporate dinosaurs.

  • Great video! I have always wondered how this was done. Great job on the Moon Shine.

  • What used to be the soundtrack for this vid?

  • Look guys, I'm not saying you should drink or make this stuff but hey, this is the basis. This is what got me through my underage yr's and It was a hell of a lot of fun to make... If you have to get glasses later on, go into a nerdy field like I did?

  • howd u get the marbles to stay in?

  • Oh yeah and my eyesight did decline after I drank this stuff for like 2 yr's, not sure if this is genetic or the moonshine but.... good luck!

  • @cheesepuppy your eye sight shouldn't decline if nothing before 78C/172F is collected.

  • Yes to the elevation issue also... hopefully when you make moonshine you will know about atmospheric pressure. this is not a big factor just means it will take longer to heat and boil the mash.

  • Naw, you only need to distill it once through the cycle. Yes we did come up with this in CHEM1001. The tube with glass marbles is a kind of 'reflux condenser' that catches the water when the alcohol evaporates from the container. it is a fail safe for pure alcohol kinda.

  • Yeah beandips, in the south it's called a crockpot (or maybe thats a brand name?)

  • Ok guys, This is the Guy at the end of the video That "pukes" while tasting the new batch of I would say it's closest relative is... Gin. While I have tried Juice as a base it is not recommended and taste like shit and can be bad for you. This video was made for a digital video class and we thought we would share our knowledge of making moonshine for those the were curious about the process and wanted to Start or improve upon it. Also, Hot liquor off the still + fresh = not very easily swallowed

  • might make u blind if it is methanol

  • shots...SHOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

    fucking rank amateurs!!!!!!

You're Stilling fuckers....From the BOTTLE you feeble ones.

  • Great vid!

  • dude is your ghetto still made out of a pressure canner?

  • UH,your mash looked like it came from a backed up commode. What the fuck kinda mash is that. PS Please explain why to throw away your foreshots before someone assumes room temperature. Good job though

  • The "mash" he used here was basically homemade wine, but probably pretty nasty wine.

  • i drank my grandmathers moon shine yesturday with like 10 beers i took 2 shots, i only got a buzz.

    P.S. I drank 6 beers before shot .

P.S.S. I'm from russia and the moonshine was made in russia.

  • ok ive never done this before and im a little lost..

the tube with the glass marbles. wat is that??? and is it necessary? or can i use a regular pipe??

  • if it doesnt have marbles the water wont condense

  • Very Good Explanation On How To Make It, Thanks.I actually understand the process now with your diagrams.

  • Sure I can't see for shit, but if you want to know I think it takes a week full proccess. also I recommend turning twenty one? I used to love this stuff before I was of age.

  • about how long does it take and wat happens to the methanol?

  • cool i like it mate keep it up

  • SIMPLE CHEMISTRY!

  • lol i was sitting in CHEM 101 when i had the epiphony that i wanted to make shitloads of moonshine to make shitloads of jello shots and get a shitload of college babes shitfaced in my apartment!

  • someday i will try moonshine

  • Don't drink the first alcohol! Thats Methanol not Ethanol - you'll blind or kill yourself.

    Methanol boiling temp - 64.7*C

    Ethanol boiling temp - 78.3*C

Therefore Methanol comes off first - discard it, or use it as fuel, but don't drink it.

  • how long will it be methanol? like the first few drops? or is a lot more than that?

  • wait a minute... so basically make 2 batches of wat they did in this video???

the first onw is methanol and the second batch is the actual moonshine?

  • Make one batch - raise the temperature of the liquid to 65-70*C and all the liquid that comes off, discard. Keep the mixture at this temperature until not much liquid is evaporating off. This is methanol and you cannot drink it. Then raise the temp to ~80*C and collect the liquid that comes off in another container - this is ethanol and this is moonshine.

  • Ethanol starts to boil at 73C.

  • Search Google, you'll find all the sites say 78*C. Therefore boil it at 80* and you won't go wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • I would never end up with moonshine, i'd end up drinking all the beer.

  • lol! loosers! you have to filter it through some coal first.. how much volume is it? round 50-60? xD

  • you guys are fucking TEAM LOADED alright.

  • how do you filter the moonshine

  • use a water filter

  • coal is actually better :D makes the "burned" taste go away, by the way, mix it with 20 battery sodacans and a gallon of sprite per gallon, goes down like lemon juice!

  • the only reason why i'm watching this vids is cause I AM GOING TO TRY IT AT HOME.

  • Why doz your house look so much like a Meth Lab??!?!

  • cause your mom was there

  • lol purple, hes got meth on the side. His house is fucking operation GENIUS!

  • what i dont understand is why is he drinkin it str8 from the stil without proper filtration this shit can kill or blind you becuase of the methonal that is in it, after you filter it, then it is ok to drink

  • Filtration doesn't affect methanol.

The only way to remove that is to separate the first 100ml per 20L mash(so the first 200ml of a 40L mash, or first 50ml of a 10L batch, etc.) that comes off the still, as it is more volatile(evaporates sooner).

Also, I've heard certain mashes don't produce methanol in the first place, thus avoiding the problem, but I'm not sure.

  • he can boil the mix at the temprature he is becuase of his setup the water cools and recondenses back into the stil, if you dont have the type of setup he dus just do it right and boil under 120

  • what is this song called

  • "Banana boat song" look on google for more

  • what do the marbels do

  • Nicely done video...

With the boiling point of water being 120 degrees, keeping the mash heated below that reduces the water in the liquor. Liquor boils below that, so you get ethanol at 110 degrees, so use a hot plate, and have a thermometer in the still when cooking, that way you can regulate the temp better and get less water....requires engineering

Something I heard from a friend that knew someone who did this once.

Don't do this at home, explosions and fires have happened.

  • sir, your temps. are from outer space. water boils at 212deg. and ethanol at a far less 173deg. no offense, just a clarification.

  • Yo Dude! You are so right! I stand corrected... lol, I don't know how I did that! We've had temps almost to 120 this year, and I didn't see no water boilin and my liquor is still in the bottles. I guess I should think before posting things, and also maybe not be drinking when I write!

Let this be a lesson to the young-uns... picklin yer brains ain't smart!

Thank you for the gentle correction.

The trick is to get the ethanol evaporating out, without the water evaporating out.

  • no problem brother. alot of people on here should take note that you can disagree or correct without calling someone a dumb fuck.

  • LOL IDIOT!!!

    Na jokes. I didn't know that :o

  • that's if your going for slow distillation, while true what you said, it distills much fast to boil both out as a vapor, then recondense just one of them. like the way the kid did it. As for the purity, just add carbon in the pipe to convert the methanol chain into ethanol.

Also could do with watching the temperature at the bend the closer the temp is to BP of ethanol the better the yield

  • But That All Depends On Your Elevation. If You were at 14,000 ft above sea level, water would boil at a temp of 187.3 Degrees Farenheight or 86.3 degrees celsius.

  • 172 F

  • Oh...I never made the stuff...just saw it on cable TV is all. So, I could be wrong about the temp.

  • are you use a air lock when lettin it fermitt

  • awsome shot glass

  • yea nice confederate flag southern states shot glass lol

  • Hey did you use an aluminum or stainless steel pressure cooker??

  • much better as a fuel substitute than to drink...but to eacgh his own ;)

  • what temp do u boil the pot at??

because if its too hot it fucks it up

  • Man how did your drink turned out? Was good alcohol? Doesnt look like from the end of video.

What kind of yeast did you use? Did you control the temperature of the fermentation?

  • how do u make the mash?? take a big pot boil water and then put corn meal in it

  • Well... that simple? I ask coz Im into homebrewing... doing some beer... So I was asking thinking of getting to know better moonshine techs

  • I lived...

  • pretty good demo...hope the atf didn't watch it...hope you put a pressure reliel valve on the rig, too...

  • hey cna any one sujest a boil chamber or know what one like that is called? cheers its just the oen i ahve know isnt very good as the hole it escapes froma little small.

    cheers

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he just produce ethanoic acid at the start? He allowed oxygen to reach the mixture so it should taste like vinegar? Not the kind of stuff that's good to drink? Shouldn't he have included a tube for the carbon dioxide to escape from, but put the end in water to stop other gasses (like oxygen) from reaching the mixture?

  • your mama dont dance and your daddy dont rock and roll!

  • whats the name of that 1st song

  • Sugar and yeast will not produce methanol, don't worry

  • yes it will

  • Only if you are using WOOD pulp to make your alcohol......fruit sugars do not produce methanol in sufficient quantities to be harmful.

  • well... not TOO harmfull, but if you dont cut the first aproximately 1-5dl of the product, you will get methanol in your product, and that causes headaches (methanol has lower boiling temp than ethanol, and therefore comes out first).

  • really?

  • NorcanDiaboli is right. There are trace amounts of methanol in fruit juice. Search wikipedia for aspartame controversy.

  • tshhhhhhhhhhhhoooooow! I GOT DIS! (LOL GEORGE LOPEZ THEME) this is cool. but it can be alot simpler

  • Be sure to set aside the first 100ML and set it aside becuse that is the methanol and it will blind you or kill you. Methanol would be great to put in your car for a gasoline additive but DO NOT DRINK IT!

  • I thought methanol was only created if you use wooden utensils making it or are un sanitary in making it?

  • Did your brother live and did he go blind from the methanol?

  • Yes sugar and yeast does make methanol in the first half pint, it has made many people blind and has killed many.

  • Methanol is wood alcohol. If there is any woody, fibrous material in your mix, it may create small amounts of methanol. Since methanol has a lower boiling point than ethanol (the stuff you want to drink), methanol gets evaporated first, before the ethanol does. Therefore, the first few ounces of the distillation will contain a relatively high amount of methanol. Dump the first few ounces (or more depending on how much you're making) and the rest should be a relatively safe ethanol mix.

  • ur doing it wroong!

  • you are dumb you need to catch it on fire to see if it is good or bad wight and blue is good red is bad red will kill you

  • id put a flame to every shot glass u drink of that stuff... burns off the methanol quicker than the ethanol and removes the risk of going blind

  • You can just mix it with some water to lower the percentage. Great video!

  • good to know if were headed foran econimic depression. professional moonshiner

  • If you like that shitfaced feeling without the trouble of drinking several beverages, this is your one way ticket to "front row at a skynyrd show" drunk.

Plus, you gotta love bootlegging...without it, there would be no NASCAR!!

  • haha you got that right!

  • it is the most teriable thing in the world but 2 shots and as drunk as a 90 year old sailor it is like you put a m80 in mouth or like whene you go to deep in the pool and you head is crushed

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeha!!!!

  • what should you mix it with if you don't want to take shots?

  • Mountain Dew. Accept no substitutes.

  • vitamin water. amazing as as chaser too

  • it tastes like burning lol

  • I've also done that but we used a copper spiral and a towel to make it just warm enough for the ethanol to come through. We also threw away the first deciliters.

  • A country buy can survive. Man I love living in the South. Maybe you can do a meth video next. Just kidding man, really, just kidding.

  • haha 3:55.....bet that cleared up the sinuses

  • What does it taste like? Is it a strong methylated spirits type smell? Burning the lips etc?

  • hahaha......it tastes like happy

  • ethanol not methanol mate

  • this doesn't explain anything?

So what does ethanol taste like? I understand its hard to describe a taste but give it your best shot if you dont mind.

  • i dont drink i get baked instead

  • it tastes like your drinking rubbing alcohol

  • lol why would u drink rubbin alcohol?

  • It tastes like a donkey just kicked your face clean out the back side of your skull.

  • try wild yeast and clean them.

  • I omitted alot of information in this video. 1. I used 10 lbs of dark brown sugar per 5 gallons of water. 2. I burned many spoon fulls of this stiff in metal spoons. its burns with an invisible flame for 5-8 minuets leaving only a little water behind (about a half of the original volume)3. I used 24 hour turbo yeast which brought the bucket of mash to about 14% ABV in a 24 hour period. 4. methanol will not form under these conditions as no sources of methanol are present.

  • Methanol is only produced when pectin is present during the fermentation process. Don't use grapes or other pectin containing items as a sugar source, and you won't have ANY methanol in your shine. There are a lot of myths surrounding the production of methanol that have survived since the prohibition of the U.S. Do your own research to find out for yourself.

  • your totally right man. I only used suger and a very fast acting (24 hour) turbo yeast. Methanol really cannot form under those conditions. finally someone speaks the truth.

  • As far as i know the only way to prevent methanol from being present in the finished product is to heat the mash UNDER a certain temperature. The boiling points go as so: Ethanol (what you want) Methanol (what makes you blind) Water (what you don't want). I'm not sure of the exact temp needed but you can look it up. I think it's 175 degrees.

  • under 175 is methanol 175-205 ethanol

  • sounds right to me, the old timers just pour the first half jar out.

  • Yeah thats what I do, Of the 2.5 L of I get off each cook up I tip out the first 100ml or so. I have a column still filled with stainless steel scourers jamm packed in, at the top of the head the temp sits around 78c or 186F. Like I said the metanol will be the first thing out of the still so it gets tipped out with the first 100ml or so, doing this I've never had any probs.

  • what do you use for mash?? ive found that wheat or rice makes some really smooth shine. fruit makes some good shine too , but not as strong.

  • I use the yeast from home brew shops and sugar, quick n easy.

  • sounds easy, how long do you have to let it ferment with just sugar and yeast??

  • I recently switched to raw sugar which takes about 2 days if the weather is not too cold, I used to use table sugar but took 3-4 days I dont know why it took longer though. I use escenses available from the homebrew shop to make every spirit and almost every liqueur. Works out about $3 a litre for bourbon coz the escence bottles make up 5 litres, only downside is you'll become an alcahol with grog so cheap. I've stopped making it because I'm trying to get some control on it.

  • moonshine will put a hook in ya , thats for sure , i like to sip shine with some beers , but i will try the sugar and yeast thing, and let you know how it turned out. thanks man.

  • that was prety cool id like to have the chance to make it one day but i wont bcuz im pretty stupid and would fuck it up likle mostly everything else i do......

  • wow doing that inside is really stupid. burn you house down really easily.

  • marbles! , thats genius

  • i personally drank most of the contents of that jug (was a handle of tito's vodka converted to homebrew-stash), and i am not blind. three shots of the shine in this vid = about a twelve-pack of beers.

  • I heard going Blind from bad Alcohol is a myth is that true??
