  • No more poncho shelters in my bug out bag! Tarps are the way to go!

  • Nice vid, seems a good design, will have to try it out on my back yard before doing it in the wild.Thank you

  • I did not think of a ground sheet thank you

  • is that 8 x 10 inch?

  • @DeckOfCards52 Nope that's an 8' x 10 ' (8 foot x 10 foot) tarp.

    The symbol ( ' ) denotes feet.

If ( " ) were used after the number, it would denote inches.

  • Nice! The diagram was very helpful. What size is your tarp and is that one of the camo tarps from Harbor Freight?

  • @mostcanwait Hi mostcanwait. I'm pretty sure my tarp is an 8' x 10' tarp. I got mine at a local mom and pop gun store. They had several different sizes. It probably is from Harbor Freight originally. I added an extra grommet on both ends of mine. Grommeting kits are cheap and you can buy them at any fabric store. Even walmart has them.

  • @CrypticCRICKET that's what i need to do to mine...

  • @CrypticCRICKET You can also sew a loop of para cord for your stick or pole if you dont have a gromit kit

  • @darrenwolboldtalk2

Hey that would work pretty well! Good idea!

  • Great vid! Diagram is very helpful!

  • Super great video! Good job brother-Sincerely Whispering Cloud.

  • Good video. A two piece support pole is a great idea. If concerned about the ground, try to find pine branches to lay down as partial insulation. Build a fire near the door to warm and provide security. Lay extra firewood near the door so you can toss it on in t he night without having to go out.

  • @donteverlietome

Hi ! Great tips! Like you say it's good to get some insulation between yourself and the ground!

That pole you see in my vid is actually a walking stick that I used a while ago to help my mobilty while recovering from a back injury. If I were faced with a situation where I had to use my emergency shelter, I would probably just support the peak of the shelter with the trunk of a small tree or find a fallen tree branch that I could use as a support pole. Less to pack in B.O.B.

  • Very nice video, thanks, I have used a number of other techniques, but it is always good to have options. Priceless that you mentioned the importance of practicing before you really need to use your shelter.

  • @nirvakalpa Thank you! And you are sooo right that it's very important to practice prior to needing to use it.
