  • actually i was looking for the miles davis version of this song lol. good job though

  • doug, I just love this, but with you so often inserting all 8 half-notes in bars like 7, 8, 23, 27, 28, I can't help thinking bess, bess, bess, bess, you, you, you, you, is, is, is, is... Interestingly this disappears in the up-tempo middle section.

  • I'm mystified by bars 4-5. Where are they in the original melody?

  • Beautiful, Doug! What a super talented jazz pianist you are! Thank you so much for posting this, I am glad to see that there are 194 videos in your channel and will listen to you a lot. I adored your "She's leaving home". Keep it up!

  • LIke it when you start to swing!!!!

Doug, are ou reading from the sheet music in front of you?

  • The sheet music I am playing from is just in leadsheet format (Sher Music's 'Standards Real Book pp 51-52). The notation came later - derived from the midi file that I recorded as I played.

    Doug

  • I was blown away with your talent, thank yo so much, you have inspired me to say the least,, Regards Bernard

  • thank you for showing your hands. it helps a lot...

  • I keep coming back. It's elegant, classy, poignant...I love it. Those hesitations get me every time.

  • @cdayton1 Like T. Monk!

  • Absolutely the best version. Beautiful.

  • How good is this fellow ?. As I understand it Doug is about to take delivery of a new grand piano. Maybe there will be some brilliant versions of jazz standards coming up on the new piano. I feel most privileged to have heard Doug play live.

  • Absolutely beautiful interpretation of this classic. This has gone to my favourites as i wanna revisit many times! Very TASTY!!!!!!

  • Doug, such a clean and warm performance really lets the sultry elegance of Gershwin's 'swanky panky' style and flair radiate through! Excellent arrangement! ~Terry

  • I absolutely agree, dear Terry! :)

    Thanks for the share....

  • Really smooth! Awesome!

  • I would like to see u print out this arrangement set it on ur keyboard and play it again but this time fixing those awkward spots. Please post this video again but call it Part 2 Also as a request will u please re-visit ur video Laura u put that out a long time ago but it has no notation. As always Doug u are the best keep playing and please keep posting videos. We sure love ya here!

  • This arrangement like all of ur ballads is nearly perfect - played so sweet and tender, many times u'll strike a chord so beautiful that it takes my breath away. There are about 2-3 really top players on youtube that I follow and u are by far my very top favorite.

  • He's my "top favorite" too. ;-)

  • Doug, this was absolutely stunning - just beautiful as with all of ur arrangements. If I had to pick a favorite video I would choose ur recent one "BUT BEAUTIFUL" However - with this video I did notice about 4 problem spots where u kind of lost me a bit - and I realize that when u are improvising on the spot, it is easy to kind of get a little sidetracked or lost in a way - but u came out of it nicely.

  • absolutely amazing; so much to learn-- thanks!
