Using Video Crop in PD will ALWAYS keep the aspect ratio constant. If you want to crop to a different AR, just apply a mask in PiP Designer... make sure you uncheck "Maintain Aspect Ratio".
@DENMONKEY I can tell you it was a beautiful moment even before I started the camera rolling - & subsequently turned part of it into this tutorial. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@oksu132 Easy! Put your video in track 1. In the Media Library, extract the audio from the other video. Now drop the .WAV file into one of the audio tracks.
@Urosh004 If you want NO ZOOM, then the first & last keyframes have to be the SAME. In the tutorial, you'll see this at about 2:40 - 3:05. For minimal zoom just set the last keyframe slightly different than the first one.
this is bullshit, i want to crop mt vid so u cant see my face, but every time i crop it doesnt cut the area ur cropping, it evenly crops the whole clip, which ends up cropping my hands, im doing a split video
@xxPSYCHOSLUTxx Well - it's not BS! It could be that you're approaching it from the wrong angle. Take a look at our tutorial on Creating a Censor Blur. Video Crop (in PD) meets the purposes outlined in the tutorial.
Cheers - Tony (for PDtoots) We have a relaxation massage service if you're interested!!! :)
@PDtoots sorry the vid is perfect for the purpose, ur right,, i was goin about it wrong, i ended up using the PIP didnt completely accomplish my goal but, i got a bit closer. good post
@Seigfreid Glad you liked the music! It's from Freeplay music (google it), from an album called Dramatic Soundscapes Vol. 4. Title? The Forefront. You'll find a mountain of great music there for your productions. Just check the Licensing agreement.
@TheGameStrike Hi there - You probably have one of the OEM or Express versions... Check Help > About for the version. Only the full retail versions have Power Tools > Crop.
@52panmeichen With video crop, you can only crop in the same aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9). In the tutorial (at 2:20) it shows how to do a "static" crop with no zoom. Just do that, but only crop out the corners you want. Set all keyframes the same (duplicate previous/next).
@lukessummerguitar Luke - your comment is very much appreciated. We're glad our toots are helping you with your editing... but sorry to hear that it's interfering with putting it into practice. We have a similar problem... making tutorials instead of editing REAL videos.
@PrincessAphroditePAV Using the cropping tool in PD will get rid of the subtitles. Because it can only crop in the same aspect ratio, you WILL lose some other parts of the screen. Just lost the minimum amount possible!
what version do you have?? I have purchased the Power director 8 package about a month ago and i dont have the video cropping choice in my Power Tools.
@Adesico87 The tutorial was made with PD8 Ultra (the full version). Is your PD part of MediaSuite 8? That doesn't have the cropping options. MediaSuite 9 does.
I dont really understand the 2 diamonds in this cropping/zoom thing. Can u explain them? Im trying to zoom in on a part of the video Im making with PD9 but I dont know what to do with the 2 diamonds (blue one and the other one I think is orange?)
@traderpax The blue diamond is a key frame marker for positioning the crop area at a particular key frame. Check the PD9 forum for screen shots in your thread.
@arfurlife We certainly appreciate your enthusiasm & use of hyperbole!!! There should be more positive energy in the world. Thank you for the feedback.
Ok thanks for the speedy reply. but one concern cause i'm not yet happy with the result, can you choose a particular part, an exact thing, I mean without the default box size, where you can simply decrease a bit from the width or a bit from the height?
If this function is not available in powerdirector, is there any other 3rd party program which can do this?
@pierrecachia I don't think you can do that! If your project is 16:9, the crop box is 16:9. Of course, you could use a mask to crop out a particular part - uncheck the "keep aspect ratio" option. The down side of that is that there'll be a black bar.
Thanks for the info.. but still thats not crop picture!.. thats zoom in picture, what i was looking for was crop, you keep same size so the picture will remain good
@pierrecachia - If your video is 1920x1080, and you crop out a 1280x720 portion of the video, do you then just want to have a black border around the crop, to fill the rest of the 1920x1080 screen?
If not, then your 1280x720 crop will have to be enlarged to fill the 1920x1080 screen. And when you enlarge something, then yes, there will be a loss of detail, quality and sharpness.
@pierrecachia If you just want to crop the video, without any zoom, set the first keyframe where you want then duplicate it for the last keyframe. In the toot, it shows this at about 2:35 onwards.
Just to let you know I have this in my Favorites Bar as I still have not mastered what you demonstrate here with great ease...I am eagerly awaiting your multi-camera shoot tutorial and the launching of your website...please keep us posted with these great tutorials!
Love your videos. I have watched this numerous times and still not getting the exact results you are on screen...I would like it if you explored this technique some more. Have you done the Editing a Multiple Camera Shoot video yet? I sure could use that help. Do you have a website? Thanks and keep up the great work.
@designermite We're really glad our tutorials have helped with your editing. We're also happy to help out via email or Skype.
The multi-camera shoot tutorial got way laid a while back... but it's in the pipeline. As it happens, we are considering developing a website to reach a wider audience.
Great technique! Thank you and am looking for the tutorial referenced in this video at approximately 3:40...the one that shows me how to change levels of transparency for the PiP track using keyframes.
I am in the process of evaluating video editing software. I found a review on Video Software Reviews that rates Power Director as the best choice (can't post the link for some reason). However, after looking at reviews on Amazon, I am skeptical about buying any of them. The reviews make all the products sound very unstable. What are your thoughts?
I need to crop a video with no zoom effects. How do I do this bc I'm about to pull my effin hair out! lol. All I'm doing is recording my ps3 gameplay with my iphone and all I need is to zoom in and crop the TV, thats it. Thank you for your help
@PDtoots Thank you I got it figured out. But now I have another problem lol. I produced the video and uploaded to youtube and realized that after I cropped the video, it changed the "ratio" of the vid. On either side of the video are 2 black strips where the unused cropped video used to be. So my question is, after I cropped the video, what do I need to do to stretch the cropped portion out to its full capacity?
the only thing that is negative in all this power director is that are the proportions of the cropping frame are restricted to the aspect ratio of the clip/project. If u could zoom in on some line or somthing it would solved all my problems but that is "resticted to the aspect ratio of the movie or clip"
@1JHGF1 Have you tried using the cropping tool in combination with masking? It's true that cropping is restricted to the AR of the video, but masks can be set to "ignore" aspect ratio.
Hi Anna - in Video Crop, the proportions of the cropping frame are restricted to the aspect ratio of the clip/project. What you can do is crop the clip to size, then apply a mask (hexagon icon in PiP Designer).
After the clip has been cropped, it has to be produced (best to choose the same format/profile as original) to make a separate clip. That clip is used in the PiP track with the original in the main video track.
Using Video Crop in PD will ALWAYS keep the aspect ratio constant. If you want to crop to a different AR, just apply a mask in PiP Designer... make sure you uncheck "Maintain Aspect Ratio".

@azrasound It's best to stick to the format of your source clips if you can.
Changing = greater rendering time.
Alternatively, select a format appropriate to your intended use.
