SCboy06, you are absolutely right. Haters are going to hate. It's wonderful to see them running to youtube to watch everything the 101 does and provide their predictable slights. It shows that the 101 is doing something right because everybody's watching and talking about them. If they are as bad as some of the idiots are say, then why would they even need to comment about the 101? No, what's SLOPPY, is some of the ill-advised comments folks make when they play the "Hating" game.
I don't know why Mr. Ellis won't teach each section leader to through their sections and tune their instruments. Those horns sound like they are playing the wrong notes because they are so badly out of tune.

SCSU did an excellent job of arranging, voicing, and transcribing the music in a way that emulates the actual version (despite the intonation and slight overplaying in the melodic line with the low brass). And, it doesn't hurt that it is in the same key as the actual song. The ending is something serious with those secondary dominants/Aug +6 chords.... I loved it. BUT!!!!! With that being said. SU has a different style and their arrangement
is written more in a way that is more conducive to power but their arrangement is just as musical and sounds just as good in my opinion. The only reason that SCSU has an edge is because of the personal orchestration of the arranging by created that elaborate ending. I like both arrangements and both bands. I graduated from Prairie View so I can appreciate the intricate chord structure of SCSU but I have a beast mentality so I can appreciate the intensity of SU.

Here the problem lies, some people dont have an ear! If u cant hear the Horrible intonation within the solo line, your deaf! (.32-34, why write the G# if your baritones cant play it, change the structure and give it to your mellows, or just drop the key) In addition, the chord structure is weak, not full at all, no counter medleys in the mellows, (no where as a matter of fact,No answering between sections, just a plain Jane version of the tune.

SCSU sounds great on this!! This arrangement is more smooth and laid back, whereas SU's arrangement is more intense. I honestly love both arrangements!!

(.32-34, why write the G# if your baritones cant play it, change the structure and give it to your mellows, or just drop the key) In addition, the chord structure is weak, not full at all, no counter medleys in the mellows, (no where as a matter of fact,No answering between sections, just a plain Jane version of the tune.

Choppy, no phasing, no feelings, just dry, like someone said before it sounds like a high school band playing a high school arrangement. Dam, folks dont even know what to play, (trumpet at 1:38-1:39) Just horrible. SU arrangement is better hands down

Dang these guys sound so much better than SU. SU version is sloppy without balance. They try to overblast to compensate for their lack of musicianship. The 101 now owns this song. SU you can't down another band hoping they will stop playing it. It will never work.

Thats because SU don't play to many songs in back to back seasons and i didn't hear or see the 101 play two hearts before last year and thanks to Sarj written it for the Marching 101 thats why it sounds so good

whatever you bulldogs KILL me trying to prove that your sound is authentic and can not be duplicated when in fact you your selves are duplicates of MORRIS BROWN and i say that because im quite aware of what states style and sound was like before Eddie Ellis just ADMIT you all have BEEN UPGRADED!!! so just accept that and move foward the band sound and looks amazing.... but even on a rany day you could never match MBC's PAST or PRESENT!!!!!!!!!!

The band had a different sound before because Ronald J. Searj was there. And they had a different sound before him. If another band director comes in behind ellis the sound will change again. and by the way the students and the band director are two different components to a band working together towards 1 common goal both parties has to put somthing in so MBC was not good only because of eddie ellis they were good because MBC had talented individuals behind those instruments and the chemistry between the musicians and the Director(EDDIE ELLIS) was clear plus he had a incredible band Staff which i have had the pleasure of interacting with so actually your the IGNORAMIUS!!!!

so...what you are saying is the students that Mr ellis recruits now aren't half as talented as the student he recruited for Morris Brown... Acually if you knew anything about the current program you would know that he still recruits from the same areas as before and that he only seeks All-State honor band musicians. Those student are probably two or three times more talented than you could imagine. I will leave this conversation where it is before it becomes redundant...

SCSU sounds great on this!! This arrangement is more smooth and laid back, whereas SU's arrangement is more intense. I honestly love both arrangements!!

any band will take on the sound of its director...just as a sports team will take on the play style of its coach. What you don't understand is that morris brown's sound is not morris brown's style its eddie ellis's sound. And Yes I am a former scsu band member.

Sounds great! B-tone solo would've sounded better if played a little more smoother and sweeter,f-horns just need to play out a little bit more and with confidence,trumpets and the rest of the band is smashing!The sounds is so amazing!
