Why didn't these guys run? Their cars were all clearly waaay faster than crown vics. If they really were on a serious race, they should have had the skills to outrun cops easily if they wanted to.

@mostliberal because it's not really a race so much as a rally. They're racing to get to checkpoints, but the rules stipulate that they're not to break traffic laws.  Obviously they still speed, they're all in supercars and sportscars, but they're technically forbidden from doing so by the rules of the event. It's more about navigation. They're given a new checkpoint destination every morning and only then have to figure out their rout to get there the fastest.

@mostliberal hah, while I agree, the other point to bullrun is that it costs tens of thousands of dollars to participate, so everyone wants to show off how rich they are with how nice/fast/rare/luxurious their car is. But, for the high price tag you also get free room and board for the duration of the trip, plus food at all the checkpoints I'm pretty sure. All you have to pay for outside of that is gas.

@Brahulus when everyone else is doing 65-75 on the freeway, and expecting everyone else to be doing the same, if you're blazing by at 90-100 its far more dangerous. Just like waving a (loaded) gun around is far more dangerous than if its in a holster. Sounds to me like you're arguing that the chances of killing someone are equal if you're doing 40mph or 100mph when the speed limit is 65. FYI, noone said that waving a gun around is equal to murder.

actually if u drive 1 mph over the speed limit u can still be arrrested; but to stop from everyone who is caught speeding ending up in jail the court system setup a system of citations or aka tickets, but its still the officers own discretion if you end up in a jail cell for the night or walk away with a citation :)

Arrested for speeding in the middle of the desert? WTF?

Lost all respect for the CA Highway patrol after they pulled me over for 5mph over the limit.

Then about a week later they refused to come out to a 7 car accident that happened just in front of me. A woman in her 60s was bleeding from her head pretty bad and other cars passing by the accident were spinning out due to the coolant and oil all over the road.

Yup. Sometimes the truckers will just say something like "hey westbound, you got a bear hiding behind some bushes under the overpass." Or you can ask the truckers if they've seen any bear traps. It's only useful over long distance trips though.
