I suppose none of you have lived in Alaska as I have for 16 years. Light is very much appreciated. The winters are dark and brutal, so man made light helps get you through 9 months of Winter.

My neighbor has this fucking 1000 watt lightbulb that shines all night on a pole. My shades can't block it! One day I'm going to make a silencer for my pellet rifle and quietly "plink" that thing off... bull's eye! :D

No one cares about the sky. We spend more of our time looking down now reading our Iphones. We forget about what is up there. We are so dependent on electricity and lighting that we take it for granted. We need better lighting controls and better designs. There is not one good light at Home Depot or Lowes. They are all glare bombs that are overlit and poorly designed to scatter the light rather than direct it down. Let's save our natural wonders!!!!

Yeah... and even on SHITTY light fixtures, the only thing we have to do is put HOODS over the lights so it simply directs it down where we NEED it, not UP where it ruins the sky!!

I disagree, it's amazing to see children seeing planets & galaxies for the first time through a telescope. It can change their lives, it did mine. But having no dark skies near cities, reducing those occurrence and detaches youngster from the Sky and their place in the universe.
