  • is that a jay turser bass if so i have the same one

  • Anthony! Great to find you on here. Everyone-(including random anonymous trolls)-Anthony is a great player who I've known for over 30 years. If he can sustain a career in the Music Business for a quarter of a century clearly he knows what he's doing. Anthony, you were a Bad Boy 30 years ago, and you're a Bad Boy now! Kudos, sir!

  • that's interesting...

  • @MrJohhncrabcake to bad you didn't listen to the video, or maybe you just didn't comprehend what he was saying. His day job is musical director on a cruise line. This man has incredible musical skills and ability. What's your day job? I'm sure it's not playing music for a living,

  • @professor117 Yeah, uh, don't think I'll be loosing any gigs to your buddy prof. None of the truly qualified non-rock bassists ever used a "back flick" technique to play rapidly. Only two rock players come to mind on electric and they are Geddy Lee and Jack Bruce. Also on the acoustic is the legendary Dave Holland but not only does he play upright, he makes no attempt to play "virtuosic" lines. His virtuosity is in his musicianship and ability to HEAR quickly. All 3 use only the i .

  • OMG...

  • you play great but.....the audio sounds terrible,

not so unimportant to take are of that... make sure you sound great on these videos , otherwise it wouldn't be so great.

it sounds a kind of noisy and messy ... too bad... good luck for next time :-)

  • good secret

  • hahahaa!!! now play a solo like satanley. is not just the tecnic ii the BASS PLAYER

  • No, Stanley can pluck that fast without doing a "back flick". So can I for that matter. Wooten does that though. Stanley does not. And Stanley plucks the strings a lot harder, which is part of his sound.

Sorry, but he's not doing that trick.

  • I've watched 3:08 about 15 times and I laugh each time... lol.

    Good chops :)

  • dude, your bass is so beutifull..i love it so much, this is one of my dream basses! i have the new 2010 fender usa deluxe jazz, in natural with black block inlays

  • correct! You can also do, middle down, index down, middle up, middle down, index down, middle up. with a triplet feel.

  • Are you going middle down, index down, middle up, index up?

  • Sounds more like that muppet from maiden.

  • fuck off ya big headed twat sounds fuck all like him

  • i've been playing bass for 25 years and just this past year figured out this back and forth picking and as usual it took me 25 years to change my way... and it has opened up so much playing... this video here S. C. Secrets is great and this guy made this tip clear and without a soap opera...thanks for the great and helpful and reasuring video...although could have used it about a couple decades ago

  • I see a lot of "bassists" here complaining but they can't bring anything decent for their generation.

  • I love it! Thanks for the tip.

  • HA HA, 1:38 Meow mix?

  • yeah this isnt that cool

  • @elchupirichups i know right!? these are not secres i've been doing the "backstoke" 4 some time now

  • This guy has Stanley Clarks technique a little bit wrong....when he is doing the finger style licks the sound has no definition and is there one things Stanley has is super note definition.

  • Wow thats pretty sweet.

  • you suck

  • you suck

  • The first part reminds me of 2 minutes to midnight by iron maiden haha

  • Wow you totally just described a technique that every bassist can do. Its been seen in everything from jazz bass to metal bass. Not really a secret.

  • does anyone know what strings this guy is using?

  • u funny man! "Stanley"

  • dont slow down. you wanna know why? CUZ I DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR SHITY VID!!!!

  • you suck!

  • it SUUUCKS !

  • that´s the worst bullshit I have ever seen!

Show me one record where he does this crab !

  • also is kinda direspectful, like reducing a person to a level in wich you can "explain" how that person "works"

  • @klinkepeter He doesn't use that lick ever. He just has a VERY fast picking hand.

  • @klinkepeter Yep, have to agree with you there bro. Never heard ANYONE play with that tech. It sucks! Sounds like some kid in a store trying to show off and sucking!

  • No.

  • There is a Weckl lick on one of his solo CDs that I never could figure out. Drove me nuts. I thought he was using thumb and two fingers to generate fast triplets. It's possible to use that technique but this is far easier...Now I know.

Thanks a bunch...been playing bass for over four decades and never even considered doing this.

  • piece of cake for the boy

  • wow i shood have known i wasnt the only person who does that lol

  • Nice jazz! What year is she?

  • THATS EASY

  • I'll be seeing Stanley live this Wed in NY.

  • I'm sure he still Rocks!

  • Sounds like a drop D tuning. Is the tuning D, A, D, G?

  • Tuning is regular old 4ths with an E string. Back in the day 5 string was not as popular as it currently is. Stanley also had a piccolo bass

  • Lopsy Lu", Journey To love" and "School Days"

Hard to believe that cat didn't know about the electric stuff I grew up on! Thanks for the tips,I hope I don't drive my bandmates crazy!

  • The back stroke is cool. It was one of the first instinctual things I did when I picked up the Bass. I didn't know how to properly play, so to play fast that's what I did. It's cool to see that someone like Stanley Clarke also does this.

My guess is it comes from his angled right hand double bass-like attack.

  • He never had any secrets: he plays a double-bass.

  • Ooops! I guess albums like "Lopsy Lu", Journey To love" and "School Days" were before your time!

  • I've got no idea what your talking about, sir. He always has been playing a double-bass. The technique develops quite naturally when exchanging the instruments - actually, if you ever get to see any of his double-bass live shows, you'll see how weird and awkward his techniques look when in reality: those are real double-bass playing techniques..

  • Google the term "Lopsy Lu"

  • And..?

  • EXACTLY!

  • Hi Gang, Thanks! Despite the buzzing "A" string, the tone is from Passive J bass bartolinis, Sadowsky outboard preamp, Boss Compressor/Enhancer, SWR Super Redhead amp and DnR handmade roundwound strings.

  • btw, what type camera are you using? web or digital video and then simply downloading to the computer?

  • Sony TRV22 then to computer, Edit in Vegas Video. I do wish youtube would allow upload of FLV files, then one could predict the end quality.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Thanks for the info, man. Best tone I've ever heard!

  • cool! thanks fot sharing, its really helpful =) btw nice tone.

  • Yea i know, the guitar went through an incident with a careless tech (knocked over) minutes before this was shot. Lucky this is not an audition or a record. Just a demonstration of the technique.

  • How do you get that amazing tone????!!!

  • cool video

Stanley is my favorite bass player!

    good job
