OMG - that hard drivin' sound is still the real deal and that old Hammond B2 with the giant leslie speakers is a seldom heard sound today....nothing like it. Paul Schaffer (sp) knows this!
I'm sure I've thumbed up your comment already, but I will again, it's just so damn true!
The music industry has lost sight of what music actually is. Whatever the tone-deaf, band-wagon jumping, teenage mass-populus wants, they get. =[
These day's it's all about image/money. Now everything just sounds the same. It's not even real any more, just mass-produced, auto-tuned, digitally generated garbage.
Corporate media has ruined american music and hindered real musicians and talent from getting the exposure they deserve. America still has great music but you will not hear or see it on a major recording label. It is all about money....what a shame. I saw Tower of Power several times in the mid 70s and they were magic. No overdubs or gimmicks...just pure energy and talent.
@gmanzao I never had the honor of seeing them, but I do have their anthology. I was around 12 years old when "you're still a young man" came out. there was this one boy with whom I would always slow dance at night parties. Now you haven't lived until you attended your first night party!!! TOP was just as romantic, as they were funky. That's talent, being so diverse. I also remember 'Sparkling In the Sand". The full version is indescribable!!
@nutothis1 yeah...I remember that flute solo. First time I danced to "Sparkling in the Sand" was at a Sock Hop in Junior High... : ) Thanks for reminding me of that tune.
C'mon, LB! Sing the last A section correctly! "There is only so much oil in this earth....sooner than you think there's gonna be a heavy duty dearth..." That's the stuff right there....
@raulmaster1000 Haha. That's what I get for being such a kid and not paying much attention to the credits. Good to see they did get credit for it. I commented on another Tower of Power video and some guy was like "my dad is in Tower of Power and he never received any credit for having his music in any games" I really gotta stop believing everything I read on the internet...
I used to hear the original band in the 70s in the Bay Area. These guys have totally revived and even improved the sound, and the lead singer is the best yet!
To sound this good, these guys had to 1st learn music; 2nd, they had to master their instruments; 3rd, they needed years of experience playing music; and 4th, they already knew how to dress for the gig! 25 years ago, music execs discovered they could sell oodles of albums and skip ALL of the above. All needed was a drum machine, and any felon-thug off the street. Now, throw in a little Pay-Ola and....wah lah....The Wall Street whores simply continued the tradition.....And Down We Go!!
TOM POLITZER'S THE ABSOLUTE BEST TENOR SAX PLAYER I'VE EVER HEARD, IT'S NO WONDER HE'S PLAYING WITH THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD! T.O.P. JUST SAW THE BAND HERE IN HONOLULU THEY BURNED DOWN THE HOUSE, ALOHA & MAHALO, BEAR
Awesome....simply awesome...LB is the man....but he should sing the lyric "There's only so much oil in this earth, sooner than you think there's gonna be a heavy duty dearth..." on the last time around....
Heard it for the first time in the 70s in my boyfriends room and thought it was great THEN! THIRTY FOUR YEARS LATER we are still dicking around with this issue but THIS SONG got down long ago. STEAMIN, BURNING HOT man........

@NewestViewest Right on! Everybody is SOOOO into doing it yourself. That´s why there are so many sing songwriters nowadays.... But sooner or later we´ll come back to the real deal....
this is just an amazing track... cant believe its taken me so long to discover it... the sax solo is fantastic.... there's only so much soul a track can have and this it close to bursting
