  • Hey Enbridge: There's Only So Much Oil in the Ground!!!!!

  • Check out the version of this song by my friend's - Project Hornz!

    Rich

  • 9 people's wells have run dry!

  • 観にいきたかった…

  • OMG - that hard drivin' sound is still the real deal and that old Hammond B2 with the giant leslie speakers is a seldom heard sound today....nothing like it. Paul Schaffer (sp) knows this!

  • My favorite singer they have had in years.......

  • Tenor saxophone solo is by Tom Politzer

  • I'm so happy David Garibaldi is back with the Power! The baddest RnB/funk group of all time!! And of course that baddass Tower of Power horn section!

  • Tell NATO/USA there is "Only so much oil in the ground " so maybe they can stop killing innocent civilians in Libya and all in the middles east!

  • @barriocubalindo This is NOT the place for your comments... no matter how well intended.

  • Awsome! Francis Roco Prestia is the TOP dog of funk bass players!

8 dis? They must be taking way to much of their perscriptions... Or they have gone a few days without any coffee....

  • This is the first cool peakoil song that I ever heard, exactly the kind of stuff we need to push energy transition! I love it.

  • Yesterday they were in Hengelo holland, it was so great!

  • As individuals each of these cats is the" Baddest in the Land". Collectively they are simply the best RB/ Funk/ Soul Band ever.

  • Crazy good musicians that can play the hell out of their instruments--wow.

  • HOW CAN 8 PEOPLE DISLIKE THIS

  • @TripleOctaveMusic its Tony Hayward voting 8 times

  • The truth? 40 years later and we are still fretting about OPEC and others... what went around comes around. The late great TOWER OF POWER!!!

  • JUST THE GREATEST GROUP EVER!!!!! FUNKIEST....JUST ADD LENNY WILLIAMS!!!! THIS GUYS GREAT TOO!!

  • JUST THE GREATEST GROUP EVER!!!!! FUNKIEST....JUST ADD LENNY WILLIAMS!!!!

  • TOP knew it then, we're finally realizing now that there's only so much oil in the grond!

  • Outstanding!! Thank you very much.

  • @NewestViewest

I'm sure I've thumbed up your comment already, but I will again, it's just so damn true!

The music industry has lost sight of what music actually is. Whatever the tone-deaf, band-wagon jumping, teenage mass-populus wants, they get. =[

These day's it's all about image/money. Now everything just sounds the same. It's not even real any more, just mass-produced, auto-tuned, digitally generated garbage.

  • @atty1chgo Life is already "gotten". Get a clue, brother...

  • Corporate media has ruined american music and hindered real musicians and talent from getting the exposure they deserve. America still has great music but you will not hear or see it on a major recording label. It is all about money....what a shame. I saw Tower of Power several times in the mid 70s and they were magic. No overdubs or gimmicks...just pure energy and talent.

  • @gmanzao I never had the honor of seeing them, but I do have their anthology. I was around 12 years old when "you're still a young man" came out. there was this one boy with whom I would always slow dance at night parties. Now you haven't lived until you attended your first night party!!! TOP was just as romantic, as they were funky. That's talent, being so diverse. I also remember 'Sparkling In the Sand". The full version is indescribable!!

  • @nutothis1 yeah...I remember that flute solo. First time I danced to "Sparkling in the Sand" was at a Sock Hop in Junior High... : ) Thanks for reminding me of that tune.

  • @gmanzao You said it! Corporate, as in commercial. But when you look at it, who has longevity, where the music continues to stand the test of time?

  • Garibaldi and Prestia, twin brothers with different mothers.

  • Now this is frickin great music

  • Finally heard the original and mmmmmm

  • C'mon, LB! Sing the last A section correctly! "There is only so much oil in this earth....sooner than you think there's gonna be a heavy duty dearth..." That's the stuff right there....

  • @Shonk1138 Get a life.

  • Top should change the lyrics to where did all the oil go in the sea..

  • cool.

  • Lindo!!!!

  • dragon ball z budokai 2 anyone?

  • @TheDarkPrince360 by far my favorite song in the game! But...word has it Kenji might have stolen Tower of Power's music :(

  • @Spike37 Tower of Power made the Budokai music ;)

You can read it in the credits

  • @raulmaster1000 Haha. That's what I get for being such a kid and not paying much attention to the credits. Good to see they did get credit for it. I commented on another Tower of Power video and some guy was like "my dad is in Tower of Power and he never received any credit for having his music in any games" I really gotta stop believing everything I read on the internet...

  • The song was writen in the 70's. Why are we crying about no oil now?

  • Great Song TOP

  • I used to hear the original band in the 70s in the Bay Area. These guys have totally revived and even improved the sound, and the lead singer is the best yet!

  • These guys mean it, after all this time. Tight, professional, and capable. They work hard; that 's a rare thing.

  • tee ohh PEEE. the bestest.

  • its no accident that all the oil is i the arabian countries the world will end when every power inthe world will converge there to fight over the oil

  • GREAT!!

  • @THEclimberclimber Prestia? Where would TOP be without his absolutely solid groove with Giribaldi...

  • it's...like...a...therapy...against...everything...

  • Damn....that's some powerful stuff!!! It ain't easy to keep this stuff alive sometimes. God Bless them all for doin' it.

  • YIKES! IF WE DON'T GET OUT OF HERE SOON, THIS WHOLE PLACE lS GONNA BLOW!

  • This singer is really hit and miss, but when he is on. KILLER!

  • rocco is the king! awesome lick

  • Larry has taken TOP to another level.

  • Insert topical humor circa summer 2010

  • theres only so much oil in the gulf

  • their's some oil in my garden...

  • Larry Braggs is one of the best things to happen to TOP!!

  • only so much oil in the gulf

  • To sound this good, these guys had to 1st learn music; 2nd, they had to master their instruments; 3rd, they needed years of experience playing music; and 4th, they already knew how to dress for the gig! 25 years ago, music execs discovered they could sell oodles of albums and skip ALL of the above. All needed was a drum machine, and any felon-thug off the street. Now, throw in a little Pay-Ola and....wah lah....The Wall Street whores simply continued the tradition.....And Down We Go!!

  • @thegreatdrbob Amen Bro......

  • @thegreatdrbob Sadly all true...

  • truer words were never spoken

  • Tell it to bp thereis only so much oil in the sea

  • @737flyhigh that would be funnier if it was....less oil... but lol

  • @737flyhigh So "real music" is 1:44 of "song" and 3:00 of solos?

  • Somebody needs to stop that oil leak,Man or that could be the end of Man

  • DIG!

  • Comment removed

  • Сумасшедшая групка!!! Торчу!!!

  • The true band can face the test of time.. They sound just as crisp as they did 30 years ago. They still remain the, "Tower Of Power."

  • TOM POLITZER'S THE ABSOLUTE BEST TENOR SAX PLAYER I'VE EVER HEARD, IT'S NO WONDER HE'S PLAYING WITH THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD! T.O.P. JUST SAW THE BAND HERE IN HONOLULU THEY BURNED DOWN THE HOUSE, ALOHA & MAHALO, BEAR

  • @BEARGUITARJAZZ Tom continues the first rate tradition of Lenny Pickett, Marc Russo, Norbert and more, check them out..

  • Such a great band !! Will love you forever !! POWER

  • Awesome....simply awesome...LB is the man....but he should sing the lyric "There's only so much oil in this earth, sooner than you think there's gonna be a heavy duty dearth..." on the last time around....

  • How relevant is this today?

Can't cut loose w/o that juice!

  • Wow, how relevant is this? One of my all time TOP favs.....

Can't cut loose without that juice!

    RA

  • Really ahead of it's time,huh?

  • so great to hear tower, but this is waaaayyy straighter than the origional, not sure i dig...

  • too good!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I just got some soul vaccination hells yeah

  • im a bigger pickett fan stiil, but Emilio is really diggin into that pickett tenor sax sound. I dig this line up

  • Larry Braggs! Lovin' him!

  • AWESOME

  • First heard it on DBZ Budokai 2 but this sounds so much BETTER!!

  • Heard it for the first time in the 70s in my boyfriends room and thought it was great THEN! THIRTY FOUR YEARS LATER we are still dicking around with this issue but THIS SONG got down long ago. STEAMIN, BURNING HOT man........

  • @oogaachaka: Amen. I still put Squib Cakes on about every six months just to sanitize my ears.

  • @oogaachaka are you referring to the song or to your boyfriends room? :-P

  • You know what, V - I hadn't thought of t that way, but now that you mention it.....BOTH!

  • what else you can say about these guys? they are still funkying...fantastic

  • After all these years these guys are still fantastic, fresh, relevant and kickass ! Great singer, great band ! Long Live TOP !

  • Still, Rocco is god.

  • zachdecou - You're living in a dream world, dude. Getting paid according to talent and skill? Where have you been? in a cave for the past few decades? The people playing what you consider garbage and crap are making millions because millions of people like their crap better than this quality music. That's the way it's going to be until the end of time. And times have changed since these guys came out with East Bay Grease.

  • DOC RULES on that Bad Boy Mark VI Bari!!!!!

  • My favorite band ever. Agree with NewestViewest with the state of music. Saw these guys live last year. This singer's vocal chops are unreal.

  • @drummer3278 thats true.. i know most of the TOP stuff, all "generations", and i think THIS is the BEST "setting" (or how do you say that in english) they ever had. Larry Braggs on vocals is awesome!!!

  • Great band. Great musicians. Great music. Great album. What ever happened to real bands with real talent writing real music. Can't stand the majority of crap that passes for music today.

  • I agree. I think musicians should get paid according to how much talent and skill they have and by the quality of the music. These guys would would be filthy rich.

  • I bet these songs took weeks and months to wright and prefect and I also bet some of the current "chart songs" are wrote and 'Saved' in days?

  • @NewestViewest : AMEN....PREACH ON!!!!!!

  • @NewestViewest I agree totally. Music should be played by artists who care about the soul not the all mighty dollar. It's what we feel inside that makes music so enjoyable, after all music is a movement not something to watch or computerize. Thanks for feeling the way that you do. Check out the Funkanauts on youtube.

  • @NewestViewest

    U nailed it!

  • @NewestViewest some people like shit

  • @NewestViewest Right on! Everybody is SOOOO into doing it yourself. That´s why there are so many sing songwriters nowadays.... But sooner or later we´ll come back to the real deal....

  • @NewestViewest Sadly most of the talent is in the ground now too. And there was only so much of it. RIP soul & funk masters.

  • @231272oscar

Hey, you know your comments are both eloquent and the truth. I was there and played their tunes, still keepin' it alive...

  • @NewestViewest As opposed to the majority of crap that passed for music back then? Come on, the music industry was always shitty.

  • woooohooow yeeah T.O.P. ist einfach top!

  • The Groove !

  • the album this is from is URBAN RENEWAL ...great album!

  • Comment removed

  • I first heard this on some old Warner Brothers compilation album. I have no idea where I found that LOL. Great find though...

  • when music was real music!

  • tell that to your kids while you're drivin round down town....CLASS!!

  • This is what music means to me

  • phenomenal vocals, great song, great band

  • It would be great to be able to play in a band like this.

  • Bay Area Funk at it's best

  • Wow!! These guys are great. Usuing the vernacular of the 70's, they're " COLD BLOODED"

  • Roger Smith!!! What a sound... This man is brilliant!

    (from hungary)

  • I just wrote up a trombone part for this :)

  • Wow a trom part, that would be good. Would you happen to have a copy?

  • Sure thing, send me a personal message (via YouTube) and I'll send you my email address : )

  • I ve been following these guys since the early seventies. Always killer!!

  • this is just an amazing track... cant believe its taken me so long to discover it... the sax solo is fantastic.... there's only so much soul a track can have and this it close to bursting

  • i lo0ove this song!!!! :):)

  • real talent!

  • rocco and garibaldi the bomb

  • get the lead out.

  • ot only is this performance brutally fantastic, It's relevant to today's oil situation. It's Great!!

  • Fucking great.

  • Love to breakdance on it!

  • This same exact song is on Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2..

  • What a bunch of geniuses. Everyones a critic! Go home and practice..........

  • hahahah nice one ;)

  • Organist Chester Thompson IS the band. Good to hear this lineup including him after so many lame versions of this legendary band.

    Thanks you Mr Thompson.

  • ummmm......roger smith in this version, dude.

larry braggs is one of the best vocalists ANYWHERE.

  • haha the bariton player is awesome looking ! :D

  • Garibaldi/Prestia RULE! ... and let's hear it for Roger Smith! Awesome!

  • oh yeahhhhh

  • You know, not to knock the sax solo, but when you watch this version with Tom Politzer versus the 80's version with Richard Elliot, there's just no comparison.

The rhythm section sounds good still, but that sax solo is just weak. Richard Elliot is the man, all I can say is I would've loved to have been at the show where both Marc Russo and Richard Elliot played together when Russo departed, that must've been just awesome.

  • I only wish he wouldn't have gone the "smooth jazz" route after he left Tower. Seems to be what a lot of the guys are doing actually. Sad.

  • I must say that some of the comments I read on various songs and music is baffling. As to TOP, they got the FUNk in their blood and among the music industries best band period, genre aside..

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • Best Funkband :)

    Amazing band and singer!

  • i can play the bass of this song^^

  • who's dad nearly whooped rocco---?

rocco is the man, and he is super human,,,, dagnabbit!!!

  • why dont you fossil fuel lovin, global warmin denyin neo con brown shirts grow up and start being honest....funkster fifty wathever...

  • my dad almost whupped roccos ass no joke

  • ROFL!!!

  • PRESTIA!!!!!

  • Bassman Kicks ASS!

  • This lead singer sounds eerily like Lenny Williams, finally TOP is back ! This is the sound us TOP fans remember and love. Always have a Lenny Williams lead singer !

  • Yep, there is only so much oil in the ground. We need to explore different avenues of energy.

  • When this song was written (1973), we were supposed to run out of oil by 1980; plenty out there still, so sell doom and gloom someplace else. That said, one of Rocco's best bass lines.

  • You are wrong. Oil producing countries have overstated the true amounts left. It also costs a fortune to extract whats left. Time to drive smaller cars and develope new technology. You are the past

  • Moot point. We've witnessed the repercussions of burning oil, so even if there was lots left, it's irrelevant. The spirit of the song holds true -- we need to think ahead in terms of energy.

  • You are right and the old funkster is off key

  • from the "Urban renewal" Vinyl, maybe 1973/4, am I correct? Such a great funk-y band, man!!! and this is one of the best songe from that LP

  • jazz is probably one of the most underated genres of music, people are really missing out tho, this is so good.

  • This aint Jazz, this is FUNK! :D

    Big difference IMO.

  • Ermmm, it's actually soul...

soul/jazz/funk fusion so he's not wrong so there isn't that much difference. If it had to be put in a genre i would put it under AWESOMENESS!!!!!

  • @Mattytheman91 Tower of Power is funk as hell. :/

  • Comment removed

  • Folk music for the twentyfirst century..

  • great everything

  • great song.great rythm, great lyrics.
