  • My grandfather loved this song...... we played it all day at his funeral. mohd rafi is the greatest

  • This is the greatest song ever..! It gives me goose-pimples every time I listen to it...especially the second stanza!

Mohammad Rafi saab himself regarded it as his best song, as I heard him saying in a radio interview!

But the most striking thing about the interview was that, for all his projected 'voice-power' in the songs, Rafi saab actually spoke in such a soft, gentle voice, and for all his fame, he exuded such humility! Listening to him was truly an 'inspirational moment' for me!

  • Beautiful!!! My mom used to like this song!!!

  • Awesome, Superb, Marvellous, Fabulous, Excellent, Wonderful, Brilliant, Sweetest, The Best.

No any other song can compete this Golden & Sweet song in this world. And above all because there is only One MOON, one SUN & one MOHAMMED RAFI SAHAB in this universe. Great Rafi Sahab's golden voice is Uncomparable & Immortal & Sweetest. He was, he is & he will be always number ONE. I can proudly say that he was from INDIA. He is EMPEROR of MUSIC.

  • tby far the best song ever of indian cinema. it was this song which launched my love affair with indian songs. till then i used to be a fan of the beatles, the carpenters. but this 1 song which i heard back in 1978 when i was in school convered me forever. i owe it all to my father was used to listen to all the great singers rafi, mukesh , lata, talat, manna dey , asha, mahendra k, kishore and had all their famous songs in his very large collection. God Bless him for taste in music .

  • this is not rafi...i believe it is mukesh.

  • @saqiba59 no...this is mohammad rafi =)

  • @waqasyasin yes, you are right...sorry :(

  • @waqasyasin @waqasyasin yes, you are right...sorry :(

  • No Words 2 explain all the combinations used in this Song...SimplY Amazing and Ever Green.PeACE

  • awesome

  • Rafi sahab is the greatest singer in the whole era!!!!

  • @AlAlvares1

respecting all rafi fans,I would like to rate Dr.K.J Yesudas as the greatest singer on earth...!!..one day if God decides to sing,he will be singing in Yesudas's voice..!!

  • @virtueous1

Sorry, you are wrong my friend. Rafi Sahib's voice will always be the best. His voice is beyond compare. It's considered blaspemy to suggest that God will sing in anyone's voice, but if He choses anyone to sing for HIm, it would be Rafi Sahib.

  • add Sahir Ludhiyanvi to tat list Rambly1

  • OMG I LOV THIS SONG!!!!! Rafi's such a great singer!

  • very nice song. Though still waiting for my love to retun, in patience :(

  • Very nice rendition...

  • Great Mhd Rafi !

  • well asif410, u may know better, butnaushad saheb was aware that tone is to be raised much higher in this song, and only rafi can raise it to higher crescendo than all.i mean, talat, surender, mukesh. of course pradeep was also there but he was unable to bring back it to lower crescendo.

  • nice song..

  • really love dis song

  • He was very young Age : - 21 or 26 at that time

  • yeah thats what i was thinking , btw this nasal singing was there in old times , but after that a transition came and Rafi sang with happiness :D

  • I simply love this song its the best love you Rafi Sahab!!

  • The Song is by Mohammad Rafi - The king of Bollywood music

  • Dunno why i think its by Mukesh

    A nazal sound without laughter

or sound must be of rafi sahab @ early stage

  • @Divjot04 Song is by Mohammad Rafi not Mukesh. Mukesh can never sing so well like Rafi

  • mukesh and rafi were both great singers

    have some respect

  • Great song. In those days it was a style of singing people use to emulate with a bit of coarse voice. That is the reason Rafi, kishore and Mukesh resemble K L Sehgal's voice.

In fact in Ravindra Sangeet or Bangla music even ladies use to sing with a bit of coarse in their voice.

  • There is not any match of great 3,Muhammad Rafi,Naushad Ali and shakeel Badayyuni

  • @Rambly1 kishore kumar

  • Yea, it sounds more like Kishore Kumar and it threw me off for a bit but I recognized the tone at 1:17 to be how I've always known Rafi's voice to be, if that makes any sense.

I never get tired of this song, it's so beautiful.

  • @monalisa7 Yes definitely. If you listen to his early songs like "Ye zindagi ke mele" and "Tera khilona toot gaya balak" - you will hear a similar voice.

I love this early rafi voice - this song is probably my favourite of rafi's.

  • hi rahdisas..yeah ur right...it sounds a lot like kishore kumar to me!...the only reason i can think of is that this being his one of his older recordings, its different from the rafi voice that all of us are familiar with(the one of the 60s)

  • I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but IMHO Rafi's voice is VERY VERY different in this song from his usual style.

Closer to Talat and Kishore than himself IMO - does anyone know the reason or indeed any other songs like this one?

  • I agree with your comments. Could it be that at the time of singing this song he had a slight cold or possibly throat infection as they both affect voice significantly?

  • @rahdisas

maybe because all the songs of this film were suppose to sung by Talat but Naushad Sahib caught him smoking and got annoyed with him so he gave all the song of Dulari to Rafi Sahib instead and rest is history

  • A sweet song from rafisaab, Naushad, & pl give the lyricsts' name.

  • Sweet, real sweet - I am a white guyanese and I can never forget this song growing up in Guyana.Such a peaceful beautiful piece.

  • @whiteliketar a white guyanese, sweet!

  • Divine...a classic example of 'everlasting'....:)

  • This song is almost 60yrs old and feels like brand new and fresh each and everytime I listen to..those syricis are gone..rafi sab..RIP..

  • The hauntingly sweet voice of a longing heart lost in love! Mohammad Rafi had that emotive power in his voice that brought life to the actors' heart in the storyline .... while taking the listener into his/her own romantic dreamworld with ease. :) Beautiful. Thanks for this gem. Best Always.

    Ritu from California, USA

  • Rity, r u or were u a literature student?

I feel the same way u felt.

    Nasrat , Atlantic city,

    nj.

  • Yes, Nasrat, I was indeed a literature student, English and French, in fact. But, when I post comments it's more a spontaneous joyful or sad reaction from my heart to my appreciation and more than often my personal perspective of the song and situation it's pictured in.

Am not surprised you felt the same way, for there's a hidden romantic in each one us, it's but natural, but some feel it needs to stay eclipsed in real life to adhere to the ridiculous social facade expected these days. Best!

  • Hi Ritu,

as u would expect, I did bachelor and Master's in English literature and worked as a teacher before migrated to this waste land of T.S. Eliot. People of my age don't listen to old music much, but I deeply deeply feel and realise the meaning and melody of those old but evergreen songs! Do u mind if I ask how long have been to this land? robotic worls?

  • nasratkha (1 day ago) said: "Do u mind if I ask how long have been to this land? robotic worls? "

    Many years. :) Why?

  • Beeuteefull Indian song. Shukran.

  • i heard this song on a moonlit night near my window with all my lights off. I felt what heaven is.

  • Bhoot Khob. Laajawaab. Kiya Bhat hai Rfai sahib ki

  • Rafi Sahab is laajawaab, what a beautiful voice.... wonderful:) Naa jaanay tum kab aogay:)

  • A beautiful song from Rafi Sahib. Thanks
