They can silence scientists publicly but don't decide what goes on in the board rooms, peer-reviewed journals and symposiums. Most scientists believe in and promote stem cell research even though many politicians don't.

The Universities that were hacked were key centers of global warming research from which people like Al Gore based their claims. The issue is that access to that care is limited to those who can afford it. and dont forget we spend more money than any other nation on the planet and cover less people. preventative care and mental health care can go a long ways into improving a nations health and productivity yet millions are being spent to prevent people from getting this access because our health care system has been hijacked by the insurance companies.

Gov't intervention destroyed our economy. The Fed increased the money supply helping to create the housing bubble. The CRA helped to destroy lending standards. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac virtually created the secondary mortgage market which took the consequences of bad underwriting away from the primary lenders.

That's not true, the consensus of scientific organizations is not determined by politicians. They can silence scientists publicly but don't decide what goes on in the board rooms, peer-reviewed journals and symposiums. More than 95% of scientists believe in evolution but about half of politicians don't. Yet that hasn't changed what scientists believe. Most scientists believe in and promote stem cell research even though many politicians don't.

I listed several factors of which ACORN was 1. There is no way that the 99 banking act could have caused the housing bubble. The damage caused by CDOs etc. could not have occurred until after there were mass defaults and the mass defaults were caused by the inflated prices and lack of underwriting standards

The public option will raise premiums on private insurance. It will not be an option if you are forced off of your insurance because it became too expensive. And a gas tax would be awesome. Europe has one, gas there costs $6 a gallon. And guess what? The average european family living in a city spends 8 cents of every dollar on transportation compared to 18 cents of every dollar for the average american family in a urban area.

US has the most progressive tax structure in the world? I'm no expert, but even I know that in Denmark taxes range from about 15% to 60% depending on how much you make.
The average person in Denmark pays 50% in taxes, and guess what? They have the highest quality of life, happiest population, and the economic crises has hit them waay less than it hit us.

The Bush budget deficits never cracked 500 billion. That's awful but Obama's are horrible. The White house projects a deficit of 1.75 trillion for 2009. Obama will do more damage well within his first term than Bush. If spending money could dig us out of a disaster, we never would not have had a recession during the biggest spending presidency to date (Bush).

Fiscal stimulus has a poor record of efficacy. Japan tried it in the 1920's and 1980's and they weathered both downturns badly. Please, show me one example of fiscal stimulus working.
BTW, the Democrats didn't need to blow up the economy by creating a housing bubble. The CRA, the Fed and the GSEs raised housing prices to untenable levels.

we have to spend money to get our economy running. do you not understand how capitalism works? it is based on spending, when private sectors isn't gov. has to step in and keep the economy afloat. this is not the time to think about a deficit. GOP cut spending in 1929, things got only worse.

Capitalism works through investment (i.e capital). Government spending chokes off private investment and kills jobs in the long run.
Government spending increased from 2961 to 4659 (in millions) during the Hoover administration. Why do you fail to cite a single statistic while claiming that your ideological opponents are braindead?
You may be thinking about the Fed which actually did constrict the money supply and may have played the decisive role in destroying the economy.

Gov't intervention destroyed our economy. The Fed increased the money supply helping to create the housing bubble. The CRA helped to destroy lending standards. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac virtually created the secondary mortgage market which took the consequences of bad underwriting away from the primary lenders.
Of course we need a government and regulation - we can do better on both counts
Arguments based on timing are slippery. The economy tanked after the Democrats took over in 2007

nope, what created the housing bubble was republicans like Phil Gramm killing the Glass-Steagal act and removing all government regulation- regulation that was put in place in 1933 to prevent another great depression, and worked pretty good unti this decade, when GOP finally killed it

The evidence for this viewpoint is weak. The financial services modernization act of 1999 could not have done any damage without poor underwriting. It passed the Senate 90-8 (sounds bipartisan to me) and Bill Clinton (who signed it into law) correctly pointed out that it contributed to some of the stability we were seeing (ie would have been worse without). Gov't actually contributed to the profusion of CDOs etc. by limiting the credit reporting agencies that could be used, limiting information.

1) It was Deomcrats who blocked increased oversight of Fan and Fred in 2005 that was called for by Bush and cosponsored by Sununu Dole and McCain.
2) The government gets bigger in both spending and regulation regardless of what party is in power.
3) The value of regulation in protecting consumers has in part been debunked by, of all people, Christina Rohmer Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers apponited by Obama. She showed that better reporting redured the appearance of stk mkt vol.

Educate yourself: the deficit has nothing to do with Obama.
Conservative economist Bruce Bartlett did a great breakdown of this:
in january 2009 BEFORE Obama came into office deficit was projected at $1,2 Trillion, because of lower revenue due to tax cuts and a recession. The deficit ended up being $1,4 Trillion before we had even lower revenue by 200 billion, some ways due to the tax cuts Obama gave to 95% of Americans.
Spending has nothing to do with the deficit. It's lower revenue

Obama has everything to do with the defecit. 700 billion of that 1.2 trillion is due to TARP. The maj. of House Repubs voted against it, 74% of dems voted for it. Also, "I've been fighting alongside ACORN...my whole life" Obama helped to cause the housing disaster through his work as a lawyer suing Citi in an effort to force them to make more subprime loans. ACORN held protests at banks to force more subprime loans. Tax cuts for 95% of Americans was a CAMPAIGN PROMISE THAT WAS BROKEN! wake up!
