In the wild big cats would eat the fur and the feathers and bones of their prey as well as the muscle, so I can see feeding them the whole dead chicken or cow not just chunks of meat, but the animals should be dead. There is no reason for those animals to be alive when they are thrown in. Why can't they sell dead animals to be fed to the big cats? At least that way it is much less cruel.

Clipping a gooses' wings and basically shoving it into a lion's jaw isn't competitive behavior for survival, it's unnecessary and done for the sake of entertainment.
I love hunting, but I think the same argument applies there too. Tying a deer to a post and shooting it point blank isn't competition.

This is just a clever way for the zoo to feed the Tigers AND ATTRACT VISITORS. Up to 11 tigers and many animals died in these zoos last year (2009) because the zoo couldn't afford to feed them due to few visitors. What would you do if you were the zoo owner under such circumstances? Isn't it amazing people make conclusions without all pieces of the picture?

@pmakfpt, If you watch closely, you will see that the goose does not die in one bite!, its grabed by the abdomin, then some time later, if you watch, while the tiger is plucking it, the goose is clearly very much alive!
This is because these are tigers bread in comptivity, they have never learned how to kill properly, which is a perfected skill to stop they prey getting away.
Maybe you should rethink.

The solution in my opinion to engage China in as many international organisations particularly in relation to animal husbandry. To the West these acts are simply barbaric. Perhaps if China relaxed it's own psuedo communist grip on it's population they would be able to express themselves more freely rather than regressing to inhumane sports such as this.

The only reason you don't find zoos like this in japan and south korea is because of imported Western ideals of humane animal treatment, and neither of those countries' governments are oppressive.

@p0int I get your argument, but there is a big difference. In the wild there is a sense of competition, the thing that drives natural selection; in that context hunting live prey is necessary. Clipping a gooses' wings and basically shoving it into a lion's jaw isn't competitive behavior for survival, it's unnecessary and done for the sake of entertainment.
I love hunting, but I think the same argument applies there too. Tying a deer to a post and shooting it point blank isn't competition.

The Chinese are notorious for their disgusting treatment of animals and being fed to a lion, although better than being beaten and skinned alive, is still extremely inhumane. Yes it happens naturally but why enforce it when its unnecessary. A goose can be beheaded with a swift chop from a cleaver and then used as feed quite easily and minus a whole heap or agony. Unless you happen to live in a less economically developed

@donisthabomb1 Tigers don't eat geese in the wild you ignorant fuck and let me be quite explicit in explaining the difference in death these two methods cause. Clever comes down (despite the time taken to catch the animal) and about a tenth of a second later the animal is dead. Tiger bites into animal, not in any specific location AND THEREFORE not guaranteed to induce an instant death. Yes tiger are better killers but that does not make them more humane killers. This is anything but natural.

These animals dont hunt, they don't work for their food, they are thrown a live animal which is NOT their natural prey. Clinging to the, "its more natural" argument as a means of justifying animal cruelty is truly pathetic. In Australian zoos, the animals are stimulated during feeding times by having to find food

There is nothing natural about what is witnessed in this video nor can you continue to argue that this method of feeding is a more proficient means of providing food. This is about Chinese zoos making money out of the fucked up people who enjoy watching animals suffer. Its as simple as that and nothing you can say

This is just a clever way for the zoo to feed the Tigers AND ATTRACT VISITORS. Up to 11 tigers and many animals died in these zoos last year (2009) because the zoo couldn't afford to feed them due to few visitors. What would you do if you were the zoo owner under such circumstances? Isn't it amazing people make conclusions without all pieces of the picture?

Do you realise that in the wild, sometimes prey animals can fight back and even kill the predator? By feeding dead, you are ensuring there is no risk for that happening. Never mind the moral argument for feeding live for entertainment when it isn't necessary.
