Actually Jesus has literally nothing to do with christmas.

It's a pagan solstice festival with origins in the Roman festival of Dies Natalis Sol Invicti.

The Romans didn't want to stop celebrating it so they just started pretending it was Christian. Since a lot of other pagan religions in Europe also celebrated solstice around the same time it made it easier to convince people to convert as they didn't have to make any major changes to their lives.
