I really prefer any old computer over NES, because the games on the NES are like made for little girls, I don't like that funny Japanese cartoon style, everything is about Mario, and gives no oldschool feeling (that's just my opinion).
@1xWertzui well i believe the nes is oldschool in its own fashion...but totally different than the c64....some games from the nes give me c64 feeling.....like shatterhand
Looks like the designers rather disliked the Genesis/Amiga version of Turrican 3, going for something resembling Manfred Trenz's versions (the C64 ones and Super Turrican on the NES).
Nintendo NES was the only console to play, the commodore 64 was a personal computer
the sound that has the c64 is incomparable with the poor sound nes
tion surpasses the graphics, but sound is very bad
mos6581 sid is an instrument of worship for the connoisseurs, so did a synthesizer elektron for musicians "sidstation" and continue to make music djs.
no point of comparison, the batteries, attack, aggression that sound dirty sounds sid, with the NES.
dear evilotto91 obviously you prefer 3D superfasthightexturizedresolutiondefined modern games, so go play those games, turrican is too difficult for your young brain :)

not really the new games aint got it and btw i did grow up with an nes and snes and genesis and n64 im 17 so the snes and n64 were my growing up systems fuckass. in fact my favourite games are comprised of 90s games but this game has awful sound compared to genesis and the graphics are bad even for the time gimmie an nes or snes anytime hell the only decent games right now are fallout3 and street fighter 4 and brawl but still id rather play megaman mario sonic etc than new games
evillotto91, considering the C64 was released three years before the NES, the graphics are pretty damn good. You really have to learn to put things into perspective and take every possibility into account.
Besides, this wasn't an official release by Rainbow Arts. This was a fangame released in 2006 or roundabout that time.
Well actually the Famicom (NES' original name) came out in 1983. It was released in the US in 1985, which means the C64 and NES are only a year apart.
@CreepingGreenman ah, obviosly you dont take the point in the fact that the NES is a houshold system, while C64 is like a computer, that means more capacity for memory, which means more capacity for graphics and sound. :)
@CreepingGreenman: Well I've seen much better graphics on the C64 (Creatures, Turrican I and II for example), and there are much better game musics too. This game seems to be a little bit ripoff of Turrican II, just the sprites are a little bit uglier and the walking animation looks not so good.
@CreepingGreenman Yeah, for that matter it was a full generation behind the NES. Kinda like the TG-16 is the best way to explain it. Almost Next-Gen... :)
You are realy showing you age with that ignorant comment. The C64 was an 8 bit machine, of course it'll look "inferior" to the 16 bit Megadrive. You also have to appreciate the technical achievement this is given the hardware. And even the C64's most basic bleeps sound more sophisticated than anything the NES was capable of producing musically.
the NES was boss tho the only c64 games i like are International karate and tower toppler. NES had soooo much godlike games megaman especially.this just looks meh and the sound does not compare to say airmans theme from megaman 2.iunno i love classic games just not this stuff too meh
The C64's SID chip is known to this day for producing some of the best chip/game music ever created. The NES doesn't even come close. Anybody who knows anything about the history of computer and video games knows this. You won't hear ANYONE with functioning ears claiming the NES had better sounding music than the C64 because it factually is not true. Sorry, kid.
I think those types of discussion are pointless, because no uninspired C64 tune will outperform an inspired NES tune and vice versa. No filter, variable waveforms, hardware ADSR, ring modulation will save an inferior composer.
The NES actually has some merits over the SID: it has 2 more channels and can play digitized sound via DMA. Look up NES tunes like Gremlins 2 or Super Spy Hunter, which sound really good, and better than most C64 game soundtracks.
It's a given that composition is a big part of what makes a tune sound good, but on paper, the SID was a lot more sophisticated. This isn't even open for discussion. The SID was known in its day for being the most advanced 8-bit sound chip by many chip musicians who later did tunes for the NES too.And 2 extra channels don't automatically make the NES' bleeps and bloops sound better.SID could also do digi by a 4th channel. You should know this if you've actually heard any C64 music.
I have listened to thousands of SID tunes so far, and I know that the SID provides, in most cases, more choices to create sound. However, what I don't like is this hostile attitude many C64 fans have against other 8 bit systems, and everyone not agreeing with them must automatically be stupid.
There are quite some NES tunes which sound better than many C64 game tunes, just because a much better artist has composed them.
For me, this invalidates the argument that since the C64 has, in most areas, the more sophisticated sound chip, anything else is vastly inferior and therefore not worth listening to.
I'l take any well composed and original NES tune over a mediocre C64 piece with filter sweeps and ring modulation. The same goes of course the other way around, but again, the point is that in the end, we all are just comparing blips against bloops. What counts should be the music.
This is indeed the Smash Design version. Just take a closer look at the enemies and the bonus item graphics. This is Turrican 3 C64.
Turrican 3 features 24 soundtracks (according to the sid file), including some nice Huelsbeck reworks (track 10 for example). In this video you listen to track number 4.
this is not turrican 3 but turrican 2!
