I have no doubt in my mind that US has investments. But the majority of the oil investments are held by China. And after the war the Iraqi govt. has become increasingly suspicious. Iraq does have a lot of oil but much of it needs to be extracted. So now the Iraqi govt. is looking for foreign investors to come and extract those. However due to strict restrictions its getting difficult.
Also you will be surprised to know that Canada is the highest oil exporter to US. Canada is the 2nd largest oil producing country after Saudi (NOT Iraq). So much of what you guys are using can very much be Canadian oil.

Actually you need to check it. China holds the most oil investments in Iraq. America uses. Much of Iraqs oil still have not been extracted. So they are trying to attract foreign investors. Canada being the 2nd largest oil producing nation, exports most of its oil to US. So that chances of the American companies having huge investments in Canadian oil is huge. I am not denying that US has investments. But not to that extent.
And because much of Iraqs oil remains "unextracted" the investments you are talking about are the old ones. After the war the Iraqi govt is trying to attract new Investors and China has been successful in gaining that market.

People are not willing to pay vastly more for a flat screen made in the USA. China is not the only place with cheap labor, but China has invested a great deal in infrastructure. BTW just read an article from economist and the Iraqi oil reserves are being presented to foreign bidders. The 2 bidders who have so far been successful are: BP and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). At the end of the day its a valuable natural resource and not a toy.

I have no doubt in my mind that US has investments. But the majority of the oil investments are held by China. And after the war the Iraqi govt. has become increasingly suspicious. Iraq does have a lot of oil but much of it needs to be extracted. So now the Iraqi govt. is looking for foreign investors to come and extract those. However due to strict restrictions its getting difficult.

Actually you need to check it. China holds the most oil investments in Iraq. America uses. Much of Iraqs oil still have not been extracted. So they are trying to attract foreign investors. Canada being the 2nd largest oil producing nation, exports most of its oil to US. So that chances of the American companies having huge investments in Canadian oil is huge. I am not denying that US has investments. But not to that extent.

I never said that US has no investments at all. They do but they do not hold the majority of the investments. Its China. they have the highest. Recently The ministry gave more contracts to China, BP and Malaysia. In fact BP and Malaysia (Petronas) holds a joint venture. The majority of the Iraqi oil has not been extracted. Therefore they are trying to lure foreign investors. However they are very very cautious about this.

They export almost every part of the world. And their products are in extreme demand. And that is why countries like Canada and US are trying very hard to get them to invest into their economy. China is very much in demand and is a major economic power.

People are not willing to pay vastly more for a flat screen made in the USA. China is not the only place with cheap labor, but China has invested a great deal in infrastructure. The ports, the cities, the factories, the raw material chains. It enables faster delivery and lower cost than say, Rwanda.
