because the 1952 les paul's sounded pretty bad, mainly because Les Paul(the guy) demanded that they use a trapeze tailpiece, which ruined the tone and led to lots of buzzing...its ironic that the only contribution Les Paul had in designing the les paul ended up making it worse and getting removed.
nope, les paul had no input on the design other than the tailpiece...gibson pretty much brought him a completed version and asked if they could use his name, and he agreed only if they changed the tailpiece
Thats not how it happened. I spoke with Les a couple times at the Iridium - nice nice guy. He was a jazz player and wanted to mute strings. He asked for trapeze yes, like the archtops of the day but Gibson wrapped strings under the bar to accomodate the neck design, not all what Les wanted and he was unhappy - not his fault.
sorry about the double post it was my first post on here. all your videos have some of the best tones ive heard. i just got a 72 twin and i thought i wanted a strat but after seeing these i dont know now. oh thanks for showing all the green stuff i didnt really know about him and i really like his stuff now
Didn't know the Les Paul existed before 1957...?

I cam to hear a vintage guitar. I found some good blues improvisations on a guitar that sounds godly.

Maybe if you practiced more, instead of showing off your expensive gear on youtube, then you wouldn't suck so much.

well, i thought he (mr. les paul)came up with whole guitar - the tailpiece was not his only contribution.
