They're not the retarded ones. Listen to the lyrics. "I'm on my knees looking for the ANSWER, are we human, or are we DANCER." Not only does it not even sound like denser, but the chorus, being a song, RHYMES.

yeah i did some googling later and found that interview that brandon flowers was asked about it in saying it indeed was "dancer" and that whole spiel about hunter s. thompson. either way, it still brings down the image of the band's ability to effectively communicate and further perpetuates the trend of stupid hipster lyrics. as for the rhyming, only silly nursery rhymes limit the syntax to mirror images. denser and answer are most definitely acceptable rhymes. in fact it made the song better.

lol i'll explain it to ya, in the song human means free thinker and dancer refers to a puppet dancing, having no free will or choice of thought. and then as the lyrics go on it says "cut the cord" meaning let us be free. hmmmm its kind of confusing lol

Lol way wrong first of all its dencer not dancer. By dencer they mean puppet, and there asking are we controlling our own fate or are we puppets in a show and hes asking to cut the cords to see if he can do anything without his masters controllling him. When he says my hands are cold hes dieing without the cords so its bascically about fate.

actually i think it is denser..it makes so much more sense..humans are shallow and superficial, not much to be seen....and the singer is questioning whether humans have more depth than that. That's my interpretation..dancer makes no sense to me.

by "dancer" it means someone who does the same thing every day. they dance through life and don't take the time to enjoy anything or feel the pain or the joy a human does.. at least, that's what i believe.
i think the song is asking "would you rather LIVE or would you rather just be ALIVE?"

the word dancer used to be used as a word for a puppet aka someone with no personality. so its not dancers. also note that he says "cut the cord", when he says are we human or are we dancer he means are we unique or are we what people tell us to be. lol this coming from a 13 year old
