@ThePinkMan no, aikido isnt meant for MMA, in MMA they study the opponents styles right so they know what to expect, well when they know a fighter does Aikido they will know not to let the aikido dude grab anything, wrist, arms, leg etc therefore this disarms aikidos effectiveness, seeing as aikido relies on the element of surprise on the street, the attacker doesnt know you're going to use his movement against him, in MMA they know, aikido is for self defence, not MMA.
but it was never developed for MMA, its not so effective in MMA because you have to use your enemies movement for the techniques to work, and seeing as MMA fighters study their opponents styles they would know this and expect it, aikido relies alot on the enemy not knowing, it needs the element of surprise, which is lost in MMA, but they judge aikido and say its rubbish and it dont work, its disrespectful and ignorant of them to say such things just cos they seen a few vdemo vids of it in action

Bas Rutten was ahead of his time by about 10 years. If he was in his prime today, he'd be the biggest superstar in MMA. Be that as it may, he was a terrific fighter, and it's really great that he remains involved with the sport in various capacities.

bas rutten gives crap about bruce lee losing in a MMA fight and says he respects bruce, sorry but if he had respect for him he 1. wouldnt fight like a one eyed badger that just had its tail pulled 2. would realise bruce lee was a street fighter (real fighting) and even with rules a restrictions would destroy anyone thats steps in a ring with him, feel free to check out demo's of bruce lees one inch punch then think of bruce coming out of a corner like this wild, arm swinging badger

Bas has said it many times that watching Bruce Lee along as getting bullied at school are the reasons why he started martial arts. And yes, Bruce lee did cross train in other martial arts so you could say he was a pioneer mixed marital artist.
