  • Very, very beautiful, thank you very much for posting this~!

  • Good singers - absolutely WRONG song at their ages, in a num,ber of ways.

  • A wunafull a wunafull.

  • This is beautiful. Thank you for posting it.

  • I never liked Lawrence Welk as a teenager in the 70's, but I love this music now. Such lovely voices! Bring this kind of music back!

  • This is a very very nice version of the song.....they put so much feeling into it. Very soulful....if that`s a word.

  • Adorable.

  • Sung in the traditional Lawrence Welk style. This was my grandmother's favorite show. She lived for the Lawrence Welk Show & the Lennon Sisters were among her favorite singers.

  • Web master: Are you asleep at the wheel? Please remove the pathetic profanity posted by people whose IQ is lower than the mpg on my Buick

  • Why is there some black-white argument here? Shame! the Lennon Sisters have just sung for you. That should say it all. I notice, as a musician, how perfect is their timing and inntontion. Superb!

  • Of course, when she was married to me she would have taken my surname - Christ.

  • I believe I was once married to Peggy Lennon. I used to play golf with her father at Marina Del Ray golf club.

  • On the far right ! They are from left to right... Kathy ,Dianne,Peggy and Janet in front ! Peggy always sang high tenor !

  • @boatracer39 oh thank you I love her voice it's the best part of the song. It's what keeps me coming back.

  • Which one of them is hitting all those beautiful high notes?

  • @mrstrick24 Peggy !!!

  • @boatracer39 ok which one is Peggy?

  • @mrstrick24 They all are.

  • This is lovely....absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing such a delightful clip.

  • A great performance from THE LENIN SISTERS, dressed here as the mutineers of the BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN. LONG LIVE COMMUNISM!

  • @Useless2112 what kind of pills you take?stop it,you are so dumb.

  • @ladymu14 At least I know how to write properly, motherfucker!

  • I think every single one of them are One Toke Over the Line!

  • how old were they here?

  • @tappoandpippa 16,14,12,and 9 years old at this time !

  • this is the best.

  • My alltime favorite quartet, hands down. The perfect pitch is genetic. I'm registering overtones on every sustained high note. Enough on the science...I found a post that sounded like a great idea. Put this stuff back on TV. I think the ratings increase would surprise and shock the media moguls of today, and they'd become all the richer for it.

  • SIX MONTHS ON AGAIN I RETURN

    I repeat:

    The Lennon Sisters

    sing "Unchained Melody" from

    1956

    That's a goddamn motherfucking haiku!

  • in chicago, "gunsmoke" came on at 6:30. lawrence welk came on at 7:00. we missed the second half of "gunsmoke". mom knew best because the talent on that show was tremendous. the lennon's attribute their success to the high standards that the welk organization held them up to. we did not know it then, but we were living in the greatest period of this country musically, financially, morally. here's to bygone times and friends.

  • @sdstallion1 how true and i am in my 20s and i feel sad when i watch these videos and think why did the US and the world allow morals to degrade in the name of PCness and pandering to minorities. I feel happy that the US was a great country, but we all have to make sure that the good times come back and that moral values prevail. We need to reward people for hard work and not for being poor or due to their race. So please pray that this happens

  • @calihartley2010 lol wow you're racist ahaha

  • @TikTakSambo well the only racist is you, if you beleibe that people need to get paid based on race and not on hard work. LOL

  • @calihartley2010 the 40s and 50s were the golden age in america, the golden age for a white male, certainly not a african american, or a even a white woman, hell ask a japanese american how he felt about the 1950s as a golden age. yes the music was beautifull.. but you have to read between the lines. It was a hard time for many people. FYI when Diana got married she had to quit the group because her husband expected that of her, it was expected of her to be a homemaker.

  • @zztxxx It's Dianne not Diana ! She didn't have to quit ,she wanted to be a home maker, and that was the dream of all the sister !!! None of them wanted to be in showbusiness !

  • @zztxxx Yes, I agree. Many ages are hard. There is nothing golden about any age. Even today's age is not perfect. You have the minorities who use race and religion to get what they want. Minorities ruin everything wherever they go. They want everything that belongs to them to be in the forefront. They put race first before country. People are unhealthy and also rude and crude. So how can this age be golden? BTW, Diane came back to the show in 1964. So get your facts straight.

  • @calihartley2010 If somebody had told me that your comment there was an extract from one of Hitler's speeches, I wouldn't be surprised.

  • @Useless2112 Well if someone told me that your comment was an extract from Rev Al Sharpton or Rev Jesse Jackson I would not be suprised either.

  • @calihartley2010 Well if someone told me that your comment there was an extract from a song by the Steve Miller Band I wouldn't be surprised either.

  • @Useless2112 well I do not know what you mean, but along the same line, if your comment was along the lines of Obama's speech or Farrakan's speech, I would not be surprised either.

  • @calihartley2010 Ah, but were you quoting to me the words of Jābir ibn Hayyān or Marion Davies, neither would surprise be my first reaction.

  • @Useless2112 If you were quoting mussolini or idi amin neither would surprise me.

  • @calihartley2010 Quite so, but if you were quoting Robert Mugabe or Richard Blackwood it wouldn't surprise me.

  • @Useless2112 Well that is your forte since you support black nonsense. Stop pushing your crap onto me. You can have it.

  • @calihartley2010 Well your forte is in supporting affirmative action and applauding the Senatorial Black Caucus and you love black people. I've never seen anyone use the phrase "black nonsense" before, that's very amusing.

  • @Useless2112 Well people use different phrases for black nonsense. Escuse me that is your forte. Not mine. My forte is to be hardworking and then receive your money, not sit on your backside and get money. No wonder you have a clown's pic as your profile pic.

  • @calihartley2010 You're completely insane.

  • @Useless2112 Rather be insane for the right reasons than be a libtard and insane.

  • @calihartley2010 You're still insane.

  • @Useless2112 and what are you?

  • @calihartley2010 I'm someone who doesn't like to play imagineer over youtube, buddy boy.

  • @Useless2112 And by that may I ask what you mean? By looking at your profile pic you are exactly an imagineer buddy boy.

  • @calihartley2010 You seem obsessed with my profile picture. Does it not seem silly to you to base your assesment of me purely on that image? Like how it's fucking moronic to whine about non-existent issues like "black nonsense"?

  • @Useless2112 Welll from your other comments and from the people here that do not like you, i can tell you that you are the one who is moronic.

  • @calihartley2010 You could say that but you also say things like "black nonsense". At least I choose to act like a moron!

  • @Useless2112 Yes i say things like black nonsense. Good u like being a moron.

  • @calihartley2010 At least I can write in full sentences. Score one for the clown.

  • @Useless2112 Well I too can write full sentences. Atleast I am honest and i say things that are relevant. Not like you. You enjoy being a moron.

  • @calihartley2010 No you don't, you make things up. Like "black nonsense". You're clearly an idiot. And you're evidently still not capable of writing full sentences.

  • @Useless2112 Well so are you. If you critique your writing, you will find a lot of mistakes too. This is the case of the pot calling the kettle black. I wonder if you heard of that one before. Maybe you are uneducated and you have not heard that expression before.

  • @calihartley2010 No I won't, I literally never make mistakes. You're a fucking idiot, however, so you do all the time. Kudos for taking the time to construct a comment there though which is almost - but not quite - free of errors, I'm glad this conversation is having a positive impact on one of us.

  • @Useless2112 Well you have gramatical errors in your previous comment. You also use bad language. Maybe you should consider going to charm school to stop being a moron.

  • @Useless2112 Well i feel like i am chatting with a juvie. How old are you? Go play with your dolls.

  • @calihartley2010 Great comeback.

  • @Useless2112 Good. Now I am glad that you appreciate the fact that I am a worthy adversary.

  • @calihartley2010 What has somebody's color to do with music ?? I didn't know being black or latino was trendy in the music industry nowadays.Come on...

  • @syppigihie If you read clearly, I did not say that someone's color had to do with music. i was talking about other stuff. i will let you use your brain to determine that.

  • @calihartley2010 "minorities" "race"....Take a sec, think about it and tell me exactly what you meant to say then.

  • @syppigihie well if you want to know about race, think about these times. Think how people use the race card and their religion to get what they want. They use race to get freebies, to get benefits and a reason to not work. I understand that in the 50s race was used then too, but not to the bad extent it is now. So if you want to argue bring it along and i will set you right.

  • @calihartley2010 No wonder minorities use the race card today to get benefits... But this is only the consequence of what happened centuries ago when people were put into slavery because of the color of their skin. Our past has got an impact on our present. As simple as that... None of what you're describing here would be existing if racism was not a burning issue. Don't waste your time to answer me because we will never agreee anyway.

  • @syppigihie Well I will reply since I do agree with one thing. The past does impact the future, but the people who suffered in the past are dead. Their descendants are alive and they should try and work instead of pulling the race card. Not all minorities were discriminated. Minorities like to act like they are being discrminated. I would be glad to give a slave reparations not their descendats. They should be grateful to be in the west where they have good lives ulike their cousins in Africa.

  • how lovely :)

  • This is true romance... I'm so glad I stumbled upon this treasure.

  • I don't think we appreciated just how talented these girls were back then. Most people did not take Welk seriously as a provider of high quality music. But listening to them now, I am amazed at how gifted they were in this live unadorned performance. Thanks for posting.

  • Beautiful beyond belief!

  • I think this may be the single greatest live performance I have ever seen, extraordinary in every way.

  • VERY YOUNG here and the sound is different from later. As usual, rehearsed to perfection, with every measure of the melody and lyrics thought through care.

  • 1956 great music, clean fun outstanding performances by all the girls.

  • Sorry, they are NOT related in any way shape or forn to the late Beatle John Lennnon. The Lennon Sisters are from Southern California, while John Lennon was from Liverpool, England.

  • @Useless2112 Sorry, no relation.

  • I am a real fan of their harmonies and stage presence. I wish I didn't feel a certain "ick factor" at the choice of songs. Not exactly the lyrics for children--which is what they were at the time.

  • I agree with bjorn2lose that some of the songs were not the best choices for the girls. A couple of examples of songs that you can find on Youtube, and that I think were perfect for them, are "Zippedeedoodah" and "Petticoat Polka".

  • @bjorn2lose well put

  • Nice !! this certainly outclasses that

    horrible Rightous Brothers version

with the phony "soul music" accent,

the girls never had to over stylize

anything. Just like a breath of fresh

    air,

  • @dancebandleader Fuck you!

  • For me it was Peggy !

  • I remember my parents watching Lawrence Welk EVERY Saturday night without fail....and I always remember wanting to see the Lennon Sisters because I had a crush on Janet Lennon..... Like most boys that age back then.

  • Awesome!

    5/*****

  • I love this song. Every time I hear it . It remnds me of Ghost.

  • Beautiful sisters, beautiful harmony

  • AAOouuu!

  • Thank you for sharing this. It is truly art.

  • Quality voices that have stood the test of time.

  • And now we can watch them all day long.Great voices,THEE BEST OF ALL FOR ME !

  • aww i love this song, they sing it beautifully.

  • Oh we were so innocebt themn!

  • Undeniable Talent Best female Quartet Ever

  • @boatracer39 A---and might I add-MEN.

    Who can top this today?

  • @boatracer39

I think the only female quartet ever.

  • @skipper8257 There was also the Stalin sisters and the Trotsky sisters.

  • @boatracer39 Ahem, what about THE BEATLES?

  • @Useless2112 I'll have to look closely ,but I don't think the Beatles were female... I 'll take another look !!!

  • There's a sound that reminds us how indispensible the voices of the Lennon Sisters were to the Welk show for so many years.

  • I don't know about "talent", but they were very sweet kids who worked very hard to develop excellent harmonies and presented a wholesome unspoiled form of entertainment.

They still perform in Branson on occasion. I'd love to see their show.

  • Their act cannot be eclipsed. Beautiful early performance showing their amazing talent.

  • It just doesn't get any better than this! What a hard act to follow!
