I think people need to stop worhipping Noam Chomsky. There's a bit of an irony of saying you completely agree with him, yet that is likely due to the fact that you haven't listened to anybody else. If you lived in a world where you only listened to an evangelical preacher, chances are you'll "agree" with everything he says because you haven't cross-examined it against anything else.
It's the same here with Chomsky. He's right with many things but wrong about 9/11 for example.
The US has ensured that there be no peace between Israel and the Arabs. By keeping open the wound of Palestine and the Palestinian people, the US is able to dominate the Middle East, including the US vassal states of Egypt and Saudi Arabia and the "Stupendous source of strategic power" - their oil. "The greatest material prize in world history." - Noam Chomsky -
Let's say he's wrong about how 9/11 happened. So what? That doesn't make him any less progressive, or radical, or useful, or his critique of the media any less cogent. It just means he differs with you on one point.
What is it about his views on anarchy that you disagree with? They seem like they're the only rational conclusion when taking into account the rest of his work and views. Pretty much completely consistent with it.
Those whose power can't be justified should lose their power so that the people can decide.
his views on the tragedy of 9/11 essentially debunk his entire lifelong work, especially his masterpiece, manufacturing consent, it's a big slap on the faces of all his followers and fans.
Is that a joke? Chomsky doesn't ruin his own work with his views on 9-11. On the contrary, he keeps it consistent.
He believes that the system DOESN'T depend on secret, smoky rooms where faceless, suited men conspire and create ways to get what they want at the public's expense. He believes that the injustices are fairly systematic and come from the well-understood and out-in-the-open interests of the slim minority with all the power trampling on the interests of the rest of the people.
"come from the well- - - trampling on- - the rest of the people."
and that is the exact rational behind 9-11 conspiracy theorists. Chomsky is not concerned with who did it, but with who gained from it. I think it's imperative to bring the real culprits to justice, an idea Chomsky dismisses as irrelevant, that's an outrageous stance on treason.
the world has been plagued by wars and irreconcilable enmities . it is vital the truth be heard now
@Erbstank While he says he doesn't believe in the 9/11 conspiracy theory, I'm not so sure about it. I completely forgive him though because of his reasoning behind it. Focusing on these little, uncertain matters could potentially make people forget about the real, gargantuant crimes that are clearly going on.
Considering this argument, I think it was a wise decision on his behalf, to declare the events of 9/11 insignificant compared to the aftermath.
@Erbstank I never mentioned being against a thorough research (in fact, I'm all for it). My point was that this isn't Chomsky's battle to fight. He's going for the real deal, the crimes that are incorporated into the system. While important, I'm perfectly fine with the fact that he choose not to pursuit this topic in order to stay focused on the bigger picture.

Chomsky intentionally misrepresents the concept of "Manufacturing Consent." The phrase was coined by political commentator Walter Lippman do describe the process by which democratic governments get common people to surrender some freedoms to educated professionals for the better godo. There's nothing to sinister about this. Should regular, untrained citizens be alowed to pursue and arrest convicts, perform surgery or inspect nuclear reactors? Of course not.
In many of his writings on the "manufacturing of consent", Chomsky does attribute the original idea to Walter Lippmann.
Furthermore, "manufacturing consent" has nothing to do with "arresting convicts" or "performing surgery". It has much more to do with misleading the public on basic policies that affect their lives -- I.e. health care, labor laws, war, etc.
you are absolutely right! Dr. Chomsky has mentioned in his writings and interviews that Lippmann originally introduced the concept of "Manufacturing Consent"
No, that IS sinister. Even if this were an accurate description of Walter's idea, which it isn't (he describes far more extensive propaganda with far more specific controls), and even if Walter weren't clearly offering apologia for capitalist propaganda systems, people should not be MANUFACTURED to have consent. If police, doctors and nuclear technicians want to establish their authority, they must do so through rational appeals. They in fact can. State planners cannot. THAT'S the difference.
can anyone tell me when this movie was released? i must have been pretty young, seeing as it orbited around the gulf war. thanks for posting this by the way.
The fact that what he says is the truth and that it is not widely known or broadcast is testament that we will all end up as slaves to system that doesn't give two shits about any of us.
we are in a crisis, yes, the way out is what god ordered us to do, we Muslims, we have a way of life system that is free from control except from God, but again it is a fair system unlike many think
How can you explain the different denominative factions of the Muslim faith. Just like Christians, the teachings of an indirectly given message/teaching (as opposed to directly given, like a physical conversation with god) can be interpreted in many ways. The idea of any religeon that relies on teachings passed on by a person being free from control, just cannot be true. It is under as much control and is as 'fair' as the characters that teach them.
Just wanted to say that I've seen this movie several times. It made me read the book, which went into much greater detail, and had a much more compelling case for, the propanganda model, which I have personally found to apply to churches as well as government.
And for the record - 5 STARS!! But again the ultimate solution is not the 'final solution' of transhumanism technologies for the elite while the rest of us are killed off or forced into working for the elite. The U.N. was created not for peace but for the ultimate unification of the world within a false paradigm.
"...not the case that indoctrination is inconsistant with democracy...it is the essense of democracy." Though I cannot agree with Chomsky's solutions, I do respect him for thinking it through as far as he has. However, the new paradigm pitting Emperialism against the U.N. is only going to lead to a far worse scenario - because the U.N. is the instrument of death and destruction globally.
The problem is not just those who take advantage of the people, pushing their docile minds through meat grinders, but the people as a whole--swallowed in the sea of apathetic fountains, conflicting and constricting into oblivion.

So many people simply believe everything they see on TV without question, with blind faith.
On truely important issues I hope people will dig a bit further than simply turning on a TV.

Try telling that to families of soldiers sent to their slaughter in Afghanistan &Iraq
Try telling that to citizens of Iraq &Afghanistan whove had their countries buried under the rubble of perpetual turmoil
The entire precedent of the war on terror emanates from 9-11. a war that is engineered to last as long as the cold war did on communism
not bothering with a real investigation means we've consented to accept the curtain of lies drawn before our eyes as the unquestionable truth.

People r divided NOT Islam
Our prophet(PBUH)got the message from an angel, reseaching the subject will clarify how accurate it was (no space to elaborate)
Our teaching is based on the Quran(divine book)&Sunna (the sayings of prophet) that r compatible.
'Control' is to submission in Islam
Sadly many ignore what Islam is
Philosophy, Physics, Astronomy, Sociology...they're all pointing to ours as their source, it can only be right
