AT&T will give you the unlock code after you have had it for six to eight months. T-mobile will usually do after a few weeks.

I bought a phone off ebay, therefor my provider never gave me that phone so do I phone up the provider for that phone? And if so, they probably wont give me the unlocking code number without me either being a customer of theirs or paying for the code. There must be a way of unlocking every phone via a set path...surely.

Yeah your account need's to be a certain amount of day's old & not all network provider's will do this. You might as well go to the shop. Cause most phone's when bought from shop's now a day's are unlocked anyway.

not in canada, they don't give those codes out as you could just switch carriers, i tried with rogers numerous times

in canada they don't give you the codes from the service provider, they want your money so if they let you unlock it they may lose customers. so you have to find the cheapest or even some phones are free to unlock. my w580i was unlocked and debranded by an app that i was able to download.

its a federal law that once you have you cell phone for 3 months or more the service provide has to give you the unlock code when you ask for it.

3 basicaly doesn't have many costermers and they don't let u unlock the phone thinking they will get more costermers but what they actually don't know is that they're loosing coustermers,

next time you buy a phone don't go with 3 i recommend orange or vodafone
