man u have some serious skill. I did high jump this year and i have a decent vertical...32 inches. But i can only get 5'10. i dont know how to have a proper approach tho...whats the norm for an aproach? thanks alot
man u have some serious skill. I did high jump this year and i have a decent vertical...32 inches. But i can only get 5'10. i dont know how to have a proper approach tho...whats the norm for an aproach? thanks alot
I had to jump in the rain the other day. It was so bad some of the people i worse jumping against fell over and one hit their head on the bar... I hate the rain and jumping :(
Reminds me of Dwight Stones at the '76 Olympic Games and the troubles he had in the rains. That's the same issue all speed jumpers have, once the surface gets wet, it's nearly impossible to keep your speed in the run up without slipping.
Nice technique BTW,(although nearly 3 years ago) you have any hopes of competing again?
if you were to scoot your entire approach to the right 2 feet you would be jumping over the center (lowest part) of the bar. you could save your self SOME trouble...
Dude dont beat yourself up about it i feel good when i get about 5'2 tell me what you do to jump that high cause im in the 9th grade and i can only jump 5'4 as my best leave me a message so i can learn from a pro such as yourself
I have a question: If I can clear 4`10" by barely jogging my way up to the bar and having crappy form, about how high can I jump if I RUN my way up to the bar and have correct form?
it ur actually doing everything right u could definitely get at least a couple inches higher!! idk 5 2 or 5 4 just guessing tho but the more u practice the better ull get so u should learn more about it!
You make me feel so bad! My PR is only 4'6" But then again, this is my first year, and it is almost the best in hour conference! LOL that is sad, but was only a 7th grader!
I'm highly skeptical. We're to take your measurements at face value? Your run up at 7'3" is way shorter than most elite jumpers. And although your for is good, it's not great. And the differential between the bar at 7'3" and your height doesn't seem even close to 10-12".
Dude, that is fucking awesome. You've probably gotten this question many times but: Do you know any good workouts to increase height? Also if there's any advice on your technique as well. Cheers broski
why are you making a different run up especially for when it's wet? you've got 7mm spikes on, just stop being such a pussy. if you can't jump unless it's all sunshine and lollypops, you're gonna fail.
Haha thats pretty coo...but i will never jump in rain again...i slipped and fell and then there was alot of blood with was weird cause i didnt feel it till after i got up and jumped again and it was all over the mat...which the other team wasnt to happy about haha
Oh wow. Looking at this video makes me reeally wanna try at my track meet . I'm in a 7/8 split and is harder since I'm in gr.7 the the olders WILL be you know, better. Half of the class could do scissors and I'd be doing the flop . Worse? I'm can't MAKE what they do. I need tips and how to work on my "flop" or scissors. I don't have long legs! Send me message please.
yo not to make you mad but my best jumps are in the rain. i am a freshman in virginia, and i only cleared 6 feet, but i hope to be were you are when i am in college.
When I was competing this summer I was 175-177. (Sorry I don't know metric.) However, I'm probably about 182-185 right now as I haven't done a lot of training. I am living in a different location and am still looking for a place to train... should know whether it's gonna happen after a week.
wow, amazing, you're my new high jump hero. That scissor kick was crazy. I wish I could get even close to that with a regular flop jump. My best scissor kick is only 5'2". A couple more inches and you compete on the world stage?
Yeah. Had State quals the next week and managed a sloppy 6'7/2.01m in the rain. Then went 2.03 (states), 2.06 (foot locker natls), 2.11(usatf jr natls regional), 2.15(usatf jr natls) over the summer.
His feet go out of the approach curve, but the center of mass is still probably over it, which I'm pretty sure is how it's supposed to be. It just looks exagerated because of the 3 step curve.
It happened my junior year in high school when I was messing around. It was late in the outdoor season and I was stuck at 6'6 or 6'8 for every meet. I had the standard 10 step approach for those heights. I was messing around and picked a random spot fairly close in and ran the 'approach' and put up huge height I had never seen before. I cleared 6'7 that day by something like 5-7 inches and should have easily PRed that day but it was near the end of a long practice so I stopped.
Dan, I've never seen anyone step out of their approach curve (in your case to the left) on their last three steps. Most jumpers run a fairly smooth approach curve. How'd you come up with your unique, successful approach?
it doent even look like your trying lol, i bet you can dunk like no other
