First of all, Chinese and Japanese basically share the same writing system, it's the spoken language which is different.

Second, you seem to lack basic understanding of English, so I wouldn't crack too hard on other people's languages until you master at least one yourself.

I am nowhere near living in Japan either, but I have an education, so I have the ability to identify many languages even if I can't speak them.

You can use a normal keyboard with latin characters that transform in to the Japanese characters called kanji using windows IME.

Japanese keyboards have both the latin alphabet almost always in qwerty layout as well as the Japanese Hiragana alphabet so you dont have to type more keys. For example the word 'denwa' which means phone; in hiragana it appears as でんわ - so only 3 keys need to be pressed, then you press another key to change it in to its correct kanji and it becomes 電話

Right. But nobody I know including myself actually uses the hiragana on a JPN keyboard. Everyone Latin characters when typing and convert to hiragana/kanji.

Although it's possible to convert to Japanese characters using Windows, I find Mac is still a far simpler solution in setup and implementation. Is there a shortcut in Win to switch from JPN to US input mode? On my Mac I just hit Apple-Space to go to and from. It is fast.

You can set up your comp for Japanese input in windows anytime by going to control panel>regional and language options; from there click languages and install files for east asian languages. Then click on details in the same languages window and hit add on the right side, find Japanese and add IME standard and natural input. It is "Left alt shift" to switch between input languages on windows, or switch manually as they put a EN or JP icon at the bottom of the toolbar. やさしい　ですね！

So I guess Vista doesn't make it any easier. I set up my mother's computer for Japanese input using this method but I still love my Mac. When you switch between pure English and Japanese input as much as I do the fewer keystrokes or mouse clicks it takes to switch the better! でも、日本語のinputができるのは便利ですね。(^_^)

True. When I used to play games PC was the platform to go with. One nice thing you can do however is if you get a Mac with a decent graphics board - you can use bootcamp to install a dual OS. Run Windows natively on your Intel Mac machine. Of course, then it would defeat our conversation purpose of simple Japanese input - but you can play games. (^_^) Nothing beats a home built rig for games though.
