a lot of people think kenpo is strict limited movements but it's not u can take bits of different techniques and use them for example you could use the block and kick from delayed sword but then just punch him in the face
A very nice and simple technique, i like the control aspect and it puts your opponent in a great finishing position. Kenpo teaches you to defend against any and all attacks as random and maybe unorthodox as they may seem.
I'm a shin gi tai Kempo apprentice, I already saw the techniques that were shown although we have a sort of more elaborate versions. there's a lot more punching involved :D
come on, be serious..... how many people are gonna grab your shoulder to inflict harm upon you...... show me how to deflect a punch or something rather than this (>_<)
@skateprince101 It's actually common in street fighting for attackers who don't have any training. We are taught many different ways to defend against many different types of attacks, shoulder grabs are just a fraction of the attacks we defend from. This is just one of the 600+ techniques we are taught (not including variations of the technique).
So, "come on, be serious" and consider not every attacker is going to be predictable, not every attacker are going to be experienced.
I'm trying to be open minded here, but is this guy serious? Why would anyone like Kenpo from watching this? I thought it would be like the perfect weapon. I guess real time would be sick or something.
@benroolz Kempo is the spelling used by those practicioners from the Pesare-Cerio-Villari lineage. Kenpo with the N is used by Ed Parker, Al Tracy, Al Farnsworth, and the Castro family. Kenpo/Kempo is from the same Martial art family. I teach Kempo in NYS
Simple answer: In the early days of martial arts in the US nobody knew what Kenpo was. So the more recognizable word Karate was added so people would know it was an Asian martial art.
The small amount of Kenpo that i had learned back in 93' saved my life in prison 2005-2008. I was about 150 lbs and was able to drop two guys that were 200-220 lbs. Even though I'm 37 now, I still want to take more lessons. Kenpo saved my life!
The techniques are ideal, obviously, but, in the least, this video demonstrates EXCELLENT angle control. That's definitely something to take away from the art.
any form of fighting is useful for selfdefense. Still i am sure that usually instructors don't want the techniques to be taught outside the class, because we all know there are people who would rather use these techniques to inflict harm rather than as defense mechanisms (these are meant for victims)
absolutely. Not to mention it's bad for the senseis and instructors who need to make a living teaching these techniques, but 1 or 2 techniques online isnt that bad, considering these particular techniques can only be used in a self defense situation :)
I should of said that there were better techniques to use. But, I think kicking someone who is down on the ground is considered assault in some states, even if he started the fight and attacked you.

allowing your aggressor or opponent in close to you, is the total advantage of what kenpo's many choices are to disable and reverse attackers wish!.

Well done. Great approach to teaching by showing both angles for the viewer to better visualize the technique.

I don't think that the kick at the end is any good. Maybe, a stomp kick instead.
ivoryshark 3 years ago
as light as it may look, it actually hurts. Even in this demo, the toes kick directly into the diophram.

good thing he didn't use the stomp kick then
TheNachtjager 2 years ago
or shovel kick haha for Ivoryshark the ball of the foot to the sternum and the heal to the chin see in kenpo we dont bow we pray :)
