i love singing with or without instruments...... i have read all the post about wether or not to use instruments. I dont think arguing about is what the lord would want. There is alot about the bible that none of use understand, but i know one thing, that GOD wants us to worship him in spirit and in truth. If you chose not to use instruments then fine, if you chose to use them then fine.....GOD just wants use to praise him..............

@swill00 Where does Jesus say not to "take away from the gospel?" I think you're slapping a reference to Revelation into the mix, and John meant specifically by "the book" as being his Revelation. There was no such thing as the Bible when he recorded what he saw in Revelation. If any reference to another historical document, it would have been the Old Testament. Jesus IS the gospel-the gospel is Christ. You can't add to it or take away from it because it is Jesus. Not a book, or the church.

@swill00 Where do we have have authorization for "church buildings"... Where are we authorized to sing in four part harmony? And specifically concerning Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus, this example was of how they should improve their action toward one another... they had an issue with lots of things, including drinking too much in that community and running off at the mouth. What of the other churches that didn't read this letter in early New Testament Christianity before the Bible?

@swill00 That reasoning is equal to saying we should not eat with utensils for forks, knives and spoons, etc. are not mentioned in the New Testament meals. I love acapella music, but find this teaching to be an assumption based on the literal sense just to make a distinction from other believers...sad for all the musically gifted children born to your denomination who are told that their talents are worthless.

@legendary240 The fact is, we come to worship to do just that, WORSHIP. we have no authorization to use instruments, and when you go to some of these "churches" they have bands with electric guitars and such, heck, even smoke machines...its not for the worship of our lord, but for entertainment and to attract people to come and give them money so they may build the biggest church in town. The people up there playing the instuments are told what a great job they did etc, that should not be the

There is no greater instrument than the one God hath created. No man made instuments can proclaim the glory of Christ or "improve" what he hath created. To add to it is to take away from it . Where one is talented to play an instrument serves to detract from the glory and praise to God t and directs attention to the talents of man.

@cupcakeproduction100 Read your Psalms where we were told to worship with imstruments.He did not come to due away with how we worship him.Music in heaven to the point they had a worship leader and you say the Bible don't tell us to use instruments?The CofC don't use them because they know that it is the key to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.You know, there is the indwelling and there is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.They are happy with religeon.

We are under the new covenant. also, ephesians 5:19 says to speak to one another in psalms hymns, and spiritual songs. that does not say play the guitar or whatever when you sing. i believe that if he wanted us to use instruments he would have told us.

No where in Psalms is there a direct command that we are to use instruments in worship. There are instances where they used instruments, but they were not used in a temple setting.

Additionally, even if there was a command in Psalms (Old Testament) to use instruments, there is not a command to do so in the New Testament and it is the New Testament that we are under today. Colossians 2:14. If you say we are still commanded to use instruments, shouldn't we still burn sacrifices?

@latabanza The psalms indeed did say to worship God with stringed instrument, and a psalm literally IS a song set to music, etc,however a little known fact is that modern orthrodox jews refuse to use instruments in worship as psalms were to be used at the temple only in Jewish teachings. Note, a majority of psalms are written to the chief musician, at the temple.Secondly,we live by the NT not the OT. Also, you said he did not come to do away with how we worship. worship was part of the covenant

@latabanza of the OT, or part of the laws. and Hebrews 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.

and, it is a NEW TESTAMENT or new LAW. We don't think there will be a worship leader in heaven. we will all be singing to our God. We also dont say that the bible doesn't say to use instruments. we say that the command is in the Old Law, and that in the New Law, we are commanded to "make melody in our HEARTS" to the Lord.

there is no scriptures that stat in the new testament that you need instruments in worship services.

Ephesians 5:19---Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

When we sing, we dont do it for entertainment, we take it seriously it is a praise of worship to God, Not entertainment to get Glory to yourself, but give the Glory to God

I have enjoyed listening to this congregational singing. It made me realize how much I have missed going to the Church of Christ. I have a special request, if you ever sing the song " Angry Words" I would love to see it posted. It would mean a lot to me at this time in my life.
