at 2:22, i remember that day. that was train 21M at Ogden Dunes, IN (CP 487). saw him the same day at Elkhart, IN (CP 421). I think the cause was 9398 picked a switch and thats what happened

My Couzin, my mothers first couzin got killed in Hill City Ga. around 1989 or could have been 1990, working for Norfolk Southern Railroad, in a train head on collision, killing him and the other guy, can'nt remember if he is the conductor or engineer, and the other two guys in the other train got burned up as well, went to see the wreck, it was awfull looking, seen the train he burned up in. Had to be shoveled out of the train and put into his caskett, the other guys did to.

two thoughts: a) most all of these represent DANGER to humans... I shudder to think that people may have (likely) lost their lives aboard one/more of those locos....b) I wish they'd post info abt the wrecks... place/date/owner of right-of-way (RR).. I like to look up on FRA/NTSB reports... cause & human dimensions of these incidents.... Most ALL human mistakes/failures... RR systems (tracks, signals) are Very Robust, seldom fail....

These events, If you have ever truly witnessed one, are absolutely horrific ! They sound like the worst thunderstorm you've ever heard and the violence of the cars leaving the track, shearing thru trees and homes not to mention the embankment and sparking wire poles is heart stopping !

I think the one at 3:18 is the Dash 9 that collided with another BNSF train after running a red on a passing siding a few years ago. There's a few videos here on youtube of this accident.

I know where the wreck at 2:13 happened. That derailment happened on the Union Pacific's Marion Sub. All TWC track from Benton, IL south to Vienna, IL where in turns into BNSF. I have been down that rail more times than I could count!
