    Chris;Kolbe;Roger;I'm proud of you!!

  • The First Cav was in my home town in Holland in 1984 as part of NATO Exercises “Reforger '84” and “Atlantic Lion”.

They christened their staging area outside Oirschot "Brandy Station"; after a battle in the rich history of this unit.

Many older Dutchmen were reminded of the liberation of our region by American GI’s 40 years earlier.

As a 14 year old then, I remember these giant warriors who where always smiling and friendly.

A salute from The Netherlands to the 1st Cavalry Division.

  • I am a Taiwanese, I Love U.S. Army!!

  • whats the deal with wearing spurs? just wondering because at 1:05 you can see that there is an E5 who is wearing them but some of the other E6s and E7s aren't. I know you have to earn them but how? Also, can you be an infantry officer and serve with 1st Cav?

  • gold spurs are earned in combat and I believe only CAV can wear spurs

    I have alot to learn.

    I leave for OSUT 20100505

  • Spurs arent a rank thing. I was an E-3 with 2 pairs of spurs. Gold Spurs are referred to as combat spurs and silver spurs are earned through something called a spur ride. Cavalry troopers are the only allowed to wear spurs in the army. Its a unit rich with tradition, and I miss it dearly.

  • I really preferred hearing them playing "Garry Owen" when we came in from the field. I still wish they could have led our column in to Khe San playing "Garry Owen"

I have a flight jacket that says "God invented beer so the Cav wouldn't take over the world". It does go well with my Yankee Cavalry Stetson.

  • pic in the second row is phasing
