I'm a freshman in High School, and I was just thinking about how perfect this would be to make a musical out of.. Despite being generally against musicals, I thought about attempting a persuation on the school's drama teacher.
Still a shame you never finished it. Would've been awesome..
@MrPisces2000 No, it was a high school thing and now I and all my actors are in college/military/etc. so I can't finish. It was about 5/8ths of the way done I'd say though. I'm in film school right now (this was my high school's Youtube account) and I plan to try again someday.
I'm not gonna lie; it looks very high-school made. Then again, I wish my high school had crazy Decemberists obsessed teachers so we could do stuff like this. I want the Ds to put this on as a full stage performance, like an opera as someone already said. Then again all the ambiguities in plot (especially at the end) would lose that magic of personal interpretation.
@misswoopa Well, as long as it doesn't look like it was made by 13 year olds I'm happy enough. I've learned more about how NOT to make a film than anything else. Still, I'm glad that I made the effort. As for ambiguity, I suppose that's why they made the "visualizer" which didn't satisfy me in the least.
Guys... do you know what the story of the Hazards of Love is specifically? William and Margaret bonk each other in the second song, again two songs later, the villian is a rapist, the Queen is an overzealous mommy-bitch-on second thought this'll be awesome.
I like your video because it's not avant garde, Hazards is a piece I would LOVE to see performed like an Opera where you get the basic visuals with full music then let your mind flesh it out. I found the "official video" very boring and feel there is NO WAY the animation artists knew the extent and content of the Decemberists catalog..except the part with the bones smashing down...that was nice...
Thank you, I conceived the project before the official video was announced but I agree they are totally different. I hope I can do the album justice. Thanks for your interest!
Well unless I get clearance from the Decemberists I won't be able to upload the whole thing. (It's going to be an hour long anyway!) But once I finish the filming I have this winter I'll post another trailer. The final product won't be ready till Spring. Thank you for your interest! I really hope I can pull it off.
Other people ignore the legal stuff, but I've got to stick to the straight and narrow if I want the Decemberists to endorse my projects (maybe fund them!) I may even get around to posting a trailer from the video I did last year to their song, "The Perfect Crime." If I do I'll give you a heads up! (I switched to my own profile in case you were wondering)

Ahh yes, There are always legal issues involved unfortunately. Great, I can't wait to see the other trailer. No problem, It really looks superb :)

Yeah, take the high ride. They'll be much more willing to endorse, or fund you if you don't sneak around with this stuff.
Ah, That would be fab! I love that song.
