  • 1:59 Such inspiring words!

  • This is the theme song to my life

  • EXCITED

  • GOD I LOVE THEM!!! STRUM THE GUITAR, STRUM THE GUITAR,STRUM THE GUITAR

  • <333333 why burn poor and lonely

  • well... it wasn't as if they had a choice but to pool in their money together. Back in that day you gave up EVERYTHING when you were a Christian. If you weren't worshiping the pagan gods, you weren't sacrificing the fruits of your particular trade or getting it blessed by the pagan temple gods... thus no one of the pagan religions would buy from Christians... they gave it ALL up. How intense is that? And how sad is our current state of Christianity within the U.S.?

  • it doesn't matter if he wrote these lyrics with religious inspiration, anyone can read these and find a correlation in their lives and have one thing we all can lack...hope.

  • "They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: ‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’" Luke 7:32

    I love mewithoutYou <3

  • The early Christian church wasn't exactly communist. Jesus never proclaimed a particular political structure in his Gospels, making it different from many religions.

The Christians are often described as "Communist" because of the verses you mention about sharing everything together, etc. However, they were private citizens who used their property of their own free will, not dictated by the governement

  • "You played the flute but no one was dancing..."

  • Anyone else think this song is pro-Socialist? The lyrics seem to speak of workers uniting and gaining force in number.

  • @basskick10 No. mewithoutYou isn't a political band, as far as i know. :) the song is about unity between two people.

  • @Midgetsinthongs true. It was mainly the line "Why burn poor and lonely?" that really got me thinking though.

  • @basskick10 I think the lyrics are probably about a community modeled after that of the early Christian church, which I was told was closer to being communist than any other actual economy in recorded human history was. The lyrics contain Christian scriptural images (e.g., "lamp", as in Luke 11:33, and "together", as in Matthew 18:20) consistent with orthodox Christian doctrine. Paradoxically, some orthodox Christians claim that Christian scriptures clearly warn that communism is unholy.

  • @thelostreligion It wasn't quite communist, because there are lots of elements of communism that go against christianity. However it WAS a voluntary socialism.

  • @elijahsnyder and that's the thing. It was voluntary! I don't think things like sharing wealth should be forced by the government. I definitely think that it should be done by a person's or a group's own free will (and i think its a good thing to do too) otherwise if it's forced upon people by the government or some other such institution it takes the heart of beauty and love out of giving and sharing. Just my opinion though.

  • @scruffy1030 I agree entirely. It must've been a beautiful society, and if christians today were that radical the world would be a beautiful place.

  • this song rockz

  • Why burn poor and lonely under a bowl. Under a lampshade or on the shelf Beside the bed where at night You lay turning like a door on it's hinges? (First on your left side, then on your right side, then your left side again) Why burn poor and lonely? Tell all the stones, we're gonna make a building. We'll be cut into shape & set into place or you'd rather be a window, I'll gladly be the frame reflecting any kind of words. We'll let in all the blame (And ruin our reputation all the same)
