I got a jonsered chainsaw engine, but i can t get the clutch off...can please help me? And a question about the carb. Do you have any needels or did you just build something??
on the modifications you made... the fuel is enters the engine thru the cranck case as a normal gas engine would? and how did you make the hot bulb? is it in the spark plug hole?
-Thanks, it didn`t actually need an injection pump becouse I ran it with a very rich mixture and I think that`s the drawback why it doesn`t run very healthy, but it worked actually quite well for a quick homemade system. By the way how did you end up watching my videos?(just for curious).
it came up in the friends activity list, I rarely have time to watch all my sub's channels but seeing yours come up with something this cool i had to see :D
That is a really neat project but please, please, PLEASE! get a more solid flywheel. I don,t think you appreciate the amount of energy stored by a flywheel. When the flywheel is spun faster than it's design limit, and it fails, all that energy is released EXPLOSIVELY! People have been killed and entire buildings have been destroyed when a flywheel failed on a large engine but even this small one could kill you or take you're arm off at least.
There was actually a person in Sweden who tried to market a hot-bulb oil engine powered chainsaw. It used propane fuel stored in the handle to power the burner for preheating. It worked well but was lacking in torque.
I got the engine (Minarelli am5) from an Friend for free who didn´t need it anymore. It was missing its Ignition and Carb and I wanted to check if it runs before i bought them
Its now running as a hot bulb oil engine from what I can see. Probably would help to have more compression than the 2 stroke engine will allow in standard form. Interesting project none the less. Good luck with it.
You`re right. The compression ratio is not a problem , but when I took the air filter off
and made more thinner plug, it was very difficult to start. I realized that it doesn`t make any difference how hot the plug is glowing. I got it started with just keeping finger in the suction hole as a full choke.
The size of the hot area is important and also the richness of the mixture. It would be big improvement to have right size injection pump and injector inside the plug. -Thanks !
I am thinking of converting an old 4 stroke mower engine like this. Can the carburettor be left standard and can I just heat the spark plug with a blow lamp without adapting it?
Yes, you can left the carburetor on it`s original place (without modifications).
My semidiesel engine wouldn`t have so much suction with the original carburetor becouse it is ment to work at higher rpm range than that one that I made.
If you mean the original sparkplug(resistors, etc.) you can`t. You must make a glowplug (hot bulb).
I use regular diesel with 10 percent of 2 stroke oil added. Your lawnmower engine os propably 4-stroke, then use straight diesel.
Take a chainsaw sparkplug, and break the resistor off, then snap the side-electrode off, and weld some steel tube (approx. 1 inch long) on the top (no leaks allowed) and squish the top end and weld (no leaks). Then you will have a great glowplug.
Choose a tube with approx. 1 mm wall thickness.
I don`t know about kitchen torch but if it makes such a plug glowing it`s good.
Engine oil has a high viscosity, I haven`t never tried it.
The fuel-air mixture must make a contact with glowing metal.
Small, so I would add some extra weight. I am trying to persuade the magneto to soark at the moment and think I have the answer. If I can't get it going then it will be hotbulb. I have another non working engine available so could always do it to that one?
i converted my gas to diesel and it boosted the horse power by 20% but like you say leave the carb on it but if you can get a hold of a glow plug heres a trick use the old spark plug just put a T in your line with a shot off on the diesel hook a propane tank start on the propane wait for the motor to worm up then turn on the diesel then shut the gas off and it runs great
Yes, diesel fuel contains a bit more energy than gasoline, but I think not 20 %.
I quess it would be good way to pre-heat the suction air by covering the cooling fins area so it doesn`t leak with some tight housing which acts like heating chamber for the air-fuel mixture before it gets in the cylinder, and it would be great way to cool the engine.
Ok, thanks for the information! But my carburetor miss the fuel screw, so i really want to now how you made the carburetor :)

@MrRazmushenriksson
-The clutch has usually a left handed thread. Put some wooden block trough the exhaust port and rotate clockwise.
-I think you can use the original carburetor, I built my own carb as an expreriment.

@jack9102
-The fuel is normal diesel fuel with approximately 10 % of two-stroke oil.
-I have explained in the other comments how I made the "plug".
-Yes it is in the sparkplug hole.
robinhooodvsyou 11 months ago
There actually has been made real semidiesel chainsaws, "Comet" was made in Norway just after the war I think.

So it is running on propane?
josephdupont 1 year ago
@josephdupont
-No, the blowlamp is "running" on propane, the engine runs on diesel.

Thats impressive!, no injection pump or anything! good work!

I made the spark plug a cylinder
but I AM having problems getting something to fit it

how did you break the spark plug ???

-Simply with a vise.

what is the part number of your washing mashine fly wheel
i may buy one

ok no problem i will just go around washing machine repair shops and see what i can find
and just today i made the special diesel carburator
and got a two stroke weed eater motor
and i will try to build it
thanks for posting this marvellous video

would a nitro engine glowplug work?
Cchange4us 2 years ago
I think it will, but the combustion heat may be a bit low for the rc glowplug so you need maybe put the starter-thingy hooked on.
robinhooodvsyou 2 years ago
Yes it wil work . I did it to an 50cc motorcycle engine and it worked using ntro R/C fuel

Hi , thanks for your comment !
-I have tried to run it and put my hand against it but the flywheel is so wide that
it doesn`t have significant amount of torque, I`ve been thinking to make some flat belt pulleys for it,then I would make
better videos.
-Thanks to you.

Also, would kitchen blow torch work?
