Indeed, the two most recent antennas on the newer mast broadcast Smooth . (Two years ago or so they were erected with a few problems. Don't most new installs have teething problems? The new mast that carries them was erected whilst the planning permissions were still usable but close to the cut off date, as I recollect) Powerful transmitter for such a small box I thought at the time.
The name of the station has changed since its inception. Good luck for future BillinghamUK.
wow, i cant believe the lengths some people will go to to make a few quid! what exactly is in these compounds or cant you say? ive wondered for years whats up there and i know everyone says just tv masts etc but theres some funny looking tv masts if you ask me! lol
Hi, Benton1576, Sorry for the delay in replying(hols) There aren't any TV antennas as far as I'm aware. There's a pair of FM radio antennas on the newer of the masts (Saga FM, I think) and a lot of cellphone antennas. Stacks of microwave dishes, mainly for communications relay purposes. Some Private Mobile Radio aerials, scanning telemetry antennas and microwave Yagis (Bit like mini TV antennas)
I don't think I've related any top-secret information.
Hi, martybur, Thanks for the positive comment. The plane was nicked from my garage last year. New plane flew for the first time yesterday, without the camera. Flew again tonight with superior battery and engine:- Same camera. Pleased with the result. Faster climb rate and better viewpoint for the camera. I Live in Guisborough. The flight you saw was part of a routine security check on the radio site.
Hi, Benton1576, You're right, we just have a brief walk around the site, occasionally inside the fence. The plane was in the car this day and the Farmer was OK with me flying so I went for it! There are 3 large compounds on the Nab with a many links to other sites. A lot of earthing copper was nicked last year which makes it dangerous for people and equipment during thunderstorms. Replaced with cheaper aluminium. Some idiots stole 200m of fibre optic cable. No scrap value at all!
Sorry jt24uk, It's a radio controlled electric plane carrying the camera. I've flown R/C helicopters before and you need to keep your eyes on them and your wits about you when you do. With this plane I could look away for a short while to negotiate the terrain. For a short while. The plane could picture you, in the video in an open area, with not too much wind. Thanks for the comment.
The masts are Television relays for Bilsdale and they also transmit Smooth Radio on 107.7 FM

why would you need to do security checks with an rc plane?
surely you could just walk around it no?
im pretty sure its only a small sight on the top of a huge hill that no robber can be arsed to walk up!

Class! Any chance that you could twist the o2 mast 45 degrees? That way I can get a signal on Wilton Lane.
