Wonder fans. GE made them in 1906 and they were used in motels, etc. For a nickle, you got 1 hour of operation. Use 10 mins, shut it off and return: you still get 50 mins more use. The first ones had brass blades & guards with 3 speeds. The next generation had steel guard and one speed. 90% of the ones you find outside collections have had some or all of the coin mechanism removed or damaged. Westinghouse also made a coin-op fan, with a clockwork mechanism and is even rarer than the GE. Mike
mine has just the one speed and stell cage and steel blades. I got mine pretty cheap because the guy that sold it to me admitted to removing all the coin op goodies and used the parts on another fan. mine wont even tilt up or down and I also cant adjust it left or right- I have to turn the whole fan
yeah, I didn't get to go last year. I also got an old G.E. hotel fan, but the guy that sold it to me had used it for parts. It looks the same and the motor runs, he just took the "guts" out of it, so now it doesn't cost me anything to use it. Mine's also a later model with just one speed instead of 3, and mine also has a steel blade and cage. I got mine for about $100 also. The only thing about it and all coin op fans is that you can't move it up and down or side to side
