MAN ... we got a furnance from Sears (3000 usd) and who installed it did something wrong. Unfortunately it was not until summer we realized about we have a problem that is very similar to yours. I am one week requesting the service we are supposed to be granted with our contract, but they seem to be very bussy. what did u do?
dude get your roof fixed fast!!!!! did he mumble 10K? damn it hurts to watch...your unit is frozen turn the fan on and a/c off. (freon leak or not enough freon or too much) i doubt sears forgot to install a drain pan wow!!!
thats what happens when u have sears install ur ac units... i have done sidejobs where sears had previously installed their units and fucked up badly!!! next time hire a UNION hvac sheet metal worker to do the install... highly trained, skilled, crafstman
i work for a contractor who does a lot of sears jobs and we do great installations only problem is 80% of the time you arrive on a job site the salesman probably fucked up leaving you the contractor dealing with all the issues. they need to have salesman who know what their doing and looking for. sorry for your bad luck.
Sears does NOT use independent contractors, and the customer is never left in the installer's hands. You call the project consultant and they arrange repairs, or put you in contact with a manager that can help. At least that's how we do it in California. Just the same, Sorry for the bad install in your home!
Looks like they didn't put a drain pan under the system. Also, if they put in a condensate pump, they probably didn't wire the safety shut off switch. I cant see the system so its impossible to diagnose but those two items I mentioned usually will catch this problem. BTW, those two items should always be done when the system is installed above a living space.
why dont you just call sears to have it fixed? if they install it has a warranty. im glad you posted this because i bet sears fixed your ceiling and anything esle you complained about. remember this it can happen no matter who did the job. you should be lucky sears did it because other companys may have even dissapeared or went out of buisness!
You can't reach Sears - once they sell HVAC - they walk away. When you call the Quality Central department (you get that phone number on a sheet handed to you when they do the work), they just refer you to the office that did the work - and those people literally (and stunningly) don't return calls!! They use hired independent contractors to do the actual work and provide you with a contract that says its basically between you and the freelance contractor!
You tell the twin babies to smother in the 100degree heat. Obviously you don't have children and just paid over $11,000 for something that is broken and getting ZERO response to getting it fixed.
Uh, turn it off, go stay at a motel or a friend for a night or two. The only thing I'm going to tell anyone is the safe and proper way to handle a given situation.
Sorry about your situation. I am in the HVAC business and have contracted with sears in the past. We had a differance of opinion so I don't do that anymore. What really gets me is the number of folks looking at the video, never seeing the system and diagnosing it. That is really what gives the HVAC business a bad name. I really like the one telling you how he would fix it... Maybe he can go to work for Sears... Oh well, sorry for your loss, I hope you don't think we are all like that. Bruce
wow, that sucks... no body is perfect though, it's a shame it had to happen to you, but i'm sure with as many installs that they do and all other A/C companies this isn't the norm..
This problem bypasses the float switch because water never even hits the secondary drain pan, it just drain into youre return plennum (big silver ductboard box on the south end of handler). This is 30 second fix.The other situation is that you might have a pvc coupling that was not glued or has become separated so d.line and is dumping into yer ceiling.I've seen both many times. What season was this system installed in ?
Is the handler a horizontal install ?If so is it at a slight incline towards the drain line? This is not a filter problem its an angle problem. Water is not going into the pan.I would shim handler and make sure drain line properly trapped.
obviously all of those things....a filter clogged that bad would cause the evap coil to freeze up.....if the evap coil were to freeze up he wouldn't be getting any cooling....he said he was getting cooling....100% the the p-trap is fucked
I am not sure how many times I am going to have to say this. But we did turn the freaking unit off. Until it was so hot in our house (DURING THE SUMMER!!) that we could not stand it. We had newborn baby twins and it was dangerous for them w/out the AC. They entire system was brand new so this should have not been an issue. But when they wouldn't come out to fix it, I HAD TO, out of necessity, turn it back on.
thats understandable that you had to turn it on......but what would you rather have had, cooling, or the risk of burning your house down? I bet youve heard this a billion times, that obviously water isnt sopose to be pissing out your duct work and running along the ceiling, but hell it could have been much worse, and burnt your house right down
lololol WELL THEIR YOUR PROBLEM YOU GOT SEARS TO DO IT...I USE TO WORK FROM EMM AND LET ME TELL YA THEIR A JOKE...HALF THE PPL THEY GET DONT KNOW SHIT ALL...AND HEATING AND A/C SIDE IS DONE BY FRANCISE...THE ONE I WORKED FOR THE GUY WOULD SHOW UP ONCE A WEEK TO GET HIS PAY CHECK AND LET THE DRUNK FOR A SUPERVIOR RUN THE PLACE..NEED LESS TO SAY IT GOT SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE AND THEY PULLED THE GUYS FRANCISE LICENSE FOR SEARS..,,THEY WOULD HIRE ANY BUM OFF THE STREETS ALMOST.
6 months is definently ridiculous for repair. Sears is obligated to cover the cost for damage and collect payment from the subcontractor. I handle some installations for Sears. Usually they send a sales rep or quality control person to verify work is completed correctly. Sounds like someone slipped up and didn't catch the problem on the inspection. It really is a poor reflection on HVAC companies as a whole, not so much Sears.
Sears subcontracts the HVAC installs to outside companies. You may pay Sears for the installation but 99% of the time, it isn't Sears that installs the equipment or completes the job.
dude that a sign of a clog up filther, no air can get threw so the ducts are just getting cooler and cooler, then u have moist air between the beams condening and driping, if it's NOT the filter u have some bad ductwork, needs to get fix, let me know what sears said
Wow ...After graduating my HVAC class I was thinking of working with Sears. Sorry to see you have to go through this, but I thank you for the heads up about Sears. I'll just stick to an HVAC company that specializes in one thing......Honestly services the customer.
At the first sign, the wise homeowner turns the unit OFF, and calls the contractor. When you buy through a large retailer, what are you giving up? The price comes from the lower pay of the contractor(s) that the retailer hires to execute their contracts, and from and a slightly smaller markup on the sale of the equipment because the retailer makes bulk equipment purchases where "one size fits many applications." My advice to all is to call a quality HVAC company, and get the job done right.
This WISE homeowner did turn the unit OFF at first. But unfortunately for me, the contractor did not show up multiple times and SEARS would not do anything about it for me. This was an EXTREMELY HOT summer and at the time I had a 3 year old and twins under a year old, the AC had to be on.
"It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money -- that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. ...... If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better."-John Ruskin

no trap in the condensat line and the line is not hooked up to any thing that is why it leaks more when shut off no trap
