The rays are but another manifestation. The planets don't 'cause' things. They are embodiments of the same archetypal forces sustaining reality. You cause the planets, as much as they you. Your actions are the planets, they are no more separate than the cosmos, which is within you. We perceive through the senses, and yet the senses themselves are perception. This is how unity becomes the appearance of many, and everything visible and knowable is phenomenal, not nouminal. Including rays...

Light itself is but a manifestation of a principle. The true light is in fact other than the Electromagnetic spectrum, although the EMS is a reflection of it, it shouldn't be taken as the form of G-d. Yes, G-d is light, yet the light of the Sun is but a mere shadow. NOUS is the true light, and the rays, as you describe them, are decidedly on the material plane. I think Hand is rightly expressing this philosophic distinction. I'd suggest you listen a little more closely.

I disagree with one thing Hand says: I do not think we, as astrologers, should disregard the Rays (because they fit not a present scientific model). Do you know not the nature of your own spirit which shines through 7 Perfect Rays? The more I theorize about astrology, the more I understand it to be an Astral-Causal science. Lastly, consider Guinard who says "To say that 'modern astrology' has failed, is incorrect. Rather, one should speak of the failure of modern thought to understand astrology"
