my cat loves my siberian husky but all my husky wants 2 do is stay away from the cat he hates him so bad its kinda funny but i feel bad 4 my cat cuz he has dis sad look everytime my dog runs away lol
We have 2 cats and a beagle and the "killer cat and killer of small dog" theory is BS. Huskies love to play with ANYONE! They are just like any other animal though, you can't let the cat torment the dog and wonder why the dog retaliated. This is a great video, what a great relationship those 2 have!
@Zeul28 That isn't strictly true. Its like 'all ginger cats are male'. It is very rare to get a ginger female or a tort male, they do happen but they are infertile so cannot pass there colour gene on
i had a husky and i also have a small cat and 2 miniature schnauzers.... huskies are very gentle with other small animals... he does however get kinda mean around bigger animals now... but its just because he isnt used to them.
My husky accidentally killed my parakeet. It escaped from its cage and my dog was trying to catch it, and she did. Her tooth went right through its heart.
I almost fell off my chair when I read your comment. FUNNY! GEOjaguar's dog may have been hungry. Huskies like to hunt. Sometimes for fun but usually to eat.
I never heard of a Husky killing a cat it lived with, unless it didn't live with it long before it happened. If raised properly, they are devoted pack members, regardless of species.
My cats will sometimes start to knead the back or heads of my dogs. The dogs used to jockey for position for their kitty back rubs!
haha thats awesome my dog used to be a really bad dog he killed so many animals and bit where i could see my bone on my leg lol it was wierd and the docter said if he would bit just a little more over i could have blead to death lol but hes a really good dog now , hes my best friend =)
Erm, the fact Huskys have been known to rip cats up, even though they have lived with them since being pups/kittens etc. I would say the Husky has the biggest advantage lol
never heard of it before. I have heard of a huskies in a dogsled team eating the first whole wolly mammoth found. took them 2 days to calm down, and scientists years, and a new wooly mamoth to recover the lost data.
i've heard that they have to be brought up together to get this close.. i mean i think its all down to the personality they both develop anyhow... but how hard is it to get this relationship between a cat and a husky?
fantastic. Husky innately have very strong prey instincts. Our teen rescue husky is still working on his. :^o There's a husky quote " If it runs, I will chase it, I catch what I chase, I kill what I catch.
They like to chase things, it's there instinct. Ours once had her eyes set on a water rat. Observing it for days, getting to know it's route. Then she just attacked it. It made a weird loud shirking noise and then our husky simply put her jaws around it and crushed it completely. Then got out of the water and just left it for dead :P
She didn't like water at all, except for those exceptions XD
I don't know about good guard dogs. Huskies are known for loving everyone. German shepherds are better at being guard dogs, because they're very protective of their family. Huskies, on the other hand, will welcome anyone new with a tail wag and maybe a bit of nuzzling.
Huskies are also a bit bad around kids unless you introduce the kids while the dog is young. My husky is terrified of little kids. :)
Totally true about guard dog. Huskiees are sociable, they like people. My husky would be a terrible guard dog. I guess it could be train as a guard dog, but they're not natural guard dog like Doberman or german sherpard.
About kids, my husky like kids, but it was a little scared of a 6 months old baby when the baby grabbed its nose roughtly. But it wa still very gentle with the baby
I have a Siberian husky who grew up with our cockatiel - and they can be side by side without incident. I don't let them stay alone free roaming, but my bird fly's free when I am home and once in awhile lands on the dogs back; NO problem. My dog accepts him as part of our pack...which is what huskies are - pack animals. Outside is diff story. She will try to get every bird she sees, but not her brother Charlie. I have a vid showing them together on here.
I have 3 cats and 2 2yr old huskies, they live along side each other with no problems, the cats always have a way out if the dogs get rough, however all 5 will sleep on the bed together, whoever says they can not co-exist is an idiot
Jake (my husky) was calm and friendly around the cats . I walked into my kitchen to discover that Mercene (my sisters cat)was curled up next to Jakes tummy asleep. I saw jakes eyes one was open looking at the cat. Jake then bit her tail Mercene turned around and scratched jake's nose he let go of her and tried to strike at her again his nose was bleeding and the cat was scared under my bed hissing if i came close.
lily. please understand that everyone else commenting this picture knows that their is always a "chance" of a dog going after a small animal. but there is also something called "supervision"
my two foster dogs got out and killed a rabbit wich is why they were put up for adoption and when we got them they were so skinny it was terrible. but i want you to know that all dogs dont have a strong prey drive some dogs actually can be trusted with smaller animals, some cant.
people are so disillusional and silly, i bet this owner is like "my husky is well-trained" that dog's instincts could turn any minute, and the smaller animal wouldnt have a chance. there is no telling how often that happens.
A pet husky does not need to be TRAINED in order to be safe around cats, just enough supervised encounters until they're okay to be left alone. Don't give me that "killer instinct" crap because this breed of dog is considered safe enough in general that human beings allow pet huskies to be near their children. Leaving them around cats is not much of a step forward. Once they become friends or at least learn to coexist, a pet dog and cat rough-house as a form of recreation; a cat can always leave
@NikkiBay8 yeah, most dangerous doesn't mean they have the most recorded attacks on cats or children. just because something can be dangerous, doesn't mean it always will be. like pit bulls, those things can fucking kill you and your brother, but my cousin has one that is the nicest dog ever. i've never heard it bark, and i can play with it and not worry about losing a hand.
@HelloDrBob@HelloDrBob@HelloDrBob I know. I was mauled in the face and head by a pitbull/chow chow when I was 3 years old. I got over 500 stitches in my head and face. I remember the whole thing, but I'm not afraid of dogs because I know they are not all like that. My uncle just got a pitbull and I let him lick my face when I first met him a few weeks ago. Anywho, I replied to that message because he was saying that huskies are "safe enough in general," but they're technically not.
@NikkiBay8 well, any domestic dog really should be safe enough if you keep it in the house. but if i'm right, huskies were pretty wild dogs back in the day, so yeah, i'd have to agree with you on that that huskies aren't the safest dogs on the planet. but i'm sure the owners know the nature of the dog and know it wouldn't harm a kitten. if they didn't, i'd hope they know not to have it mingle.
point being, if you're gonna have a dog and cat play-fight, make sure the dog won't rip that cat up.
@HelloDrBob Exactly. I think it's cute how dogs roughhouse with other dogs but know to be gentle with cats and kittens. I wish people could do that with other people. haha :)
@NikkiBay8 It depends what kind of behavior is encouraged. Of course huskies are going to have a certain instinct that owners need to responsibly work through in order to get them to relax around cats and small children, but it has been done enough times where the risk is not great enough to warrant some sort of ban or restriction. And, yes, they are very dangerous when trained as guard dogs, but that's the whole point.
@weeral1 You TOTALLY missed the point! I'm saying huskies are generally safe, and that you'd have to TRAIN one to be the vicious killer some people seem to think they are. (And it IS possible to train them as a guard dog, just not recommended when there are so many breeds of dogs that are better suited for such a role.)
@10INTM doesn't having "supervised encounters" count as training? As much as I love dogs and cats, I still understand that a dog can snap, it happens. I was lucky that I stopped my dog when she snapped, she had been playing with one of our cats for years so we thought she was fine with them, then with one particular cat that hated the dog, they usually just avoided each other but one day I guess it was one swipe too many, I'd never seen the dog act like that before, and I hope I never do again.
A man had a husky and a cat in the same house for years. One day the owner came home and called for the dog it came to him but the cat didnt greet him at the door as usual. He looked all over for it calling all the local animal shelters. He noticed the dog was acting drowsy so he brought it to the vet out of fear the dog ate his sleeping pills. the vet x-rayed the dog. in the photo the cat's collar was in the husky's stomach. I'm not bullshiting you its in the dogs nature to kill.
Im sure that there could always be a chance that could occur but my animals are also caged when I am not home. There is always that instinct in any animal (especially dogs) but look how many times they actually attack compared to when they dont...
My Husky has killed numerous small animals. Possoms, Gophers, baby Robins/Blue Jays. when My dog killed an animal he holds it by the neck and trots around with it triumphantly. the story I left above was told to me by my dogs vet. he warned us not to trust Jake or any hunting dog around small animals.
You do know that Huskies are not hunting dogs right? They are sled dogs, working dogs. They are not Hounds, Retrievers or Terriers. They are more often used to assist humans in carrying heavy loads, not helping them kill things.
